Some are more impartial than others, put it that way.
When you have personal relations with a nice man or nice woman from a marketing company or a camera company, you're not going to risk burning that bridge for the sake of a fully honest review which focuses on a number of negatives. You're just not.
Yes I myself have felt the pressure as well. I resisted and continue to do so.
If I cared about my relationship with people in the camera sales industry above the one I have with my own readers and followers, do you think I'd be blasting CInema5D on Twitter? I certainly wouldn't. For me though the blog is more important and shouldn't be 'sold' to the PR world.

Well the latter part is fine by me. We can have different opinions based on experience and figure out which opinion suits our own experiences and how we intend to use the cameras we buy.

Especially when it comes to your own blog and some flawed test that claims the rather wonderful GH5 is unusable.
The hype machine is very persuasive... These types of articles get the most attention.
The truth is there is no silver bullet, you cannot buy your way to filmmaking greatness with camera purchases.
But it helps to put your $1000, $2000 or $3000 on the right horse!!

Here is my first 4K-based adventure with the GX80. I am suprised I didnt really miss the slow-mo at all. Although rendering takes ages on my Macbook Pro 2011 (3min video took 3:45h for rendering!), editing with proxy files works without any hickup. I am amazed by the quality and I think I will continue using 4K from now on. Lenses used: Sigma 18-35, but mostly the Panasonic 20mm. I already sold the Speedbooster XL and the Sigma, it is just too huge and even with the 4K crop one sees the vignette when the stabilization kicks in.
 

And dont forget the 5D III RAW is 14bit, as I like to shoot in some crazy lighting scenarios. I get banding with every other camera I ever owned other then a 5DIII. The colors are just great, bright red key light, no problem. (I shot something similar with the A7S II, and the colors were so ugly that I had to use a "black and white" grade. )

Maybe because the masses who buy this camera will film everything - and I mean everything - at 4K60p for the first six months until the novelty wears off and the views die down. They will not care for bit rates or efficient codecs. Those who buy the GH5 as a production workhorse are in the tiniest of minorities and will likely only use its showcase feature very sparingly.
Just as the YouTube viewing market was swamped with rats scurrying about at 4am in deserted cities when the a7s first came out, it will shortly be swamped with slow motion skateboard gimbal videos from the end of this month onwards. None of them will care for h.265, let alone Anna Morphic or whatever her name is.
Panasonic need to make money and they do that via the masses and not the serious filmmakers, just as every company does that sells prosumer gear.

Yes, I think so. Having AF is very convenient if you are on the run or simply cant really see the peaking on the screen / evf. Now with the Summilux 15, it seems i got the perfect allrounder - good fov, fast AF and a decent focus ring - all in a small package!

The Bahamas are quite famous for their swimming pigs - no one really knows where they came from, yet they are there  We really wanted to see them, so thats the reason why they have such a big feature in my edit
And no, no UC filter this time. I think that I will only use it when there is no sun at all, because with sunlight (or any other bright light sources) the thing gets quite annoying.

This is a great post, especially for a Sunday... but seriously I am going through a similar thought process. I have bought, tested and returned/sold about a dozen cameras over the past year and a half. And the one thing I have learned is that no camera is perfect. all of the cameras at the $1000 or less price point are flawed in one way or another. They're all capable tools though, as many have proven over the years. However, it's easy to say that I can make my films with a t2i, or a GH2... of course you can... but what's the point? How will a t2i or a GH2 help you make your film? How will they hinder you? Movies are hard enough, practically impossible if you reside within the... "I have absolutely no fucking budget to make this movie but I am going to try anyway because I am a masochistic asshole" budget, so your tools must be tools... no more and no less.
For me, there are specific features that I have come to rely on in a camera... focus peaking being one of them... but I don't need it. What features have you come to rely on... do you need them? The problem really is that the BMPCC is not that expensive of a camera and I'm unsure it would be wise to sell the camera to pay for one costume, for one short. In 3 to 6 months when that short is done and you are looking toward your next project... then what camera will you want... or need?
With that being said... yeah fucking sell the BMPCC. Get a GH2, or a G7, or better yet get an AF100... I've seen them selling for around $500. Go bold and tell a cool story and when you're doing junkets at a festival tell them why you chose to make your short with a 5 year old camera... just make it sound cooler than I wanted money for a costume.
Actually this would be a cool challenge for those who still have access to their t2i, or GH2, or D5xxx... make a 3 minute short, in a month, and post it in the shooting section... we'll vote on a winner, but to keep it fair, only the members with a hundred posts or more can vote so we don't have a bunch of people signing up to vote for their friend... the winner gets one of Reid's cameras... LOL.

100% agree, my favourite lens right now (above my previous favourite pl25/1.4). The size, field of view, rendering, aperture dial, autofocus and manual focus control is fantastic. It is always on one of my gx80s.

I own this lens now since a couple of weeks and I tend to state that is next to perfect for my needs.
the af is fast, rendering awesome and the focus ring is very smooth - and like the Pana 20mm, the focussing isnt influenced by the speed you turn the ring - very rare for m43 lenses and very awesome!
i can totally recommend you this lens, solely based on the focus ring alone.

The mamiya 80 1.9 has a tendency for busy bokeh, but the Adapter might be increasing the problem.
For very wide blurry lenses there is no Alternative in 645, apsc or m43 to 35mm fullframe. I also enjoy wide street fotography fullopen. Here a sample on a d800, 28mm 1.4 (this would be a 14mm 0.7 on m43)

Got the camera in the mail today, immediately had to test the 60fps raw burst mode. I used a SanDisk Extreme PRO 300MB/s card and was amazed how fast the bursts were being written to the card (over 48 frames of 5K raw in less than 8 seconds).  Raw processing in After Effects takes forever, took about 2 hours to render ~34 seconds. No raw color adjustments, just rendered the image sequence and applied warp stabilizer to the shot of the power lines.  Kept all the missing frame flashes as well as the frames it records after the 48 frames of 60p (pretty cool speed up effect it gives). I shot another 2000+ frames which I will render out and share here soon. Used a Speed Booster Ultra w/ Zeiss zf 50mm 1.4.
Also, I tried to connect my Atomos Shogun via HDMI and was able to get clean signal for 4k 30p and 1080 60p but it says connection error when I try Cinema 4K. I have the latest firmware so not sure what the problem is...?
 

I'd still rather have a Pocket or Micro before the GH5. Lovely colors with minimal post work needed to make it look cinematic, even with ProRes.
I'd rather have the Micro than the Pocket, but I don't want a big rig for such a tiny camera.
I can't believe someone hasn't produced some type of dummy battery or two sided battery that would place a small 3.5" monitor directly behind the micro and the camera and monitor power could be fed from the same source... or some way to adapt one of those small Canon hotshoe EVFs with an HDMI... or even one of those GoPro wrist monitors could be a cool solution as well. 

I second that. Although I can only speak for the GX80, the colors look WAY better with -2/3 exposure. One should not take the camera's LCD to judge exposure, it looks quite dark, but on the computer much better and there is plenty of room to lift the mids if needed. I think from now on I will always shoot with -2/3 except in low light.

I'd never expected that Mattias Burling would ever touch a Sony camera. He used to be an avid Sony hater (the only Sony I saw on his youtube channel was an FS100). And now, he is here as an evangelist of Sony technology. Hmm. On the other hand, he is really a knowledgeable guy, and worth reading his articles, and watching his videos, absolutely. On this topic he is delivering really great contents, so a big thanks, that he is taking the time of sharing his experimenting. I am a recent fan of medium format film photography, and I guess I'd change from Mamiya 6x7 over to Mamiya 6x4.5. I've been quite reluctant to buy anything smaller than FF (Kleinbild); so this thread of discussion was revelational to me: no GH5, no A6500 to me. I'll buy the first A7 with 4K and touch screen along with this adapter; touch-to-magnify for manual focusing while recording video is so brilliant on Sony.
