This new version looks very interesting - and expensive!!
I like the way the light spills onto the actors which ties them into the enviroment and looks real.

Didn't see anything as far as a new M43 camera with cine production in mind. Kind of a bummer.

Been working on this one for quite some time...  Just in time for the premiere for season 3 tonight, my Game of Thrones spoof, "Winter is Coming."

Shot on hacked GH2 with a Bolex anamorphic.  Mounted with an awesome clamp by Redstan  (seriously, top-notch stuff.  Well worth the wait/cash.)   Taking lenses were Nikon 35 f2.8, Konica 40 1.7, Nikon 50 1.2, and Super Tak 135.

Color by Shian Storm's ColorGhear, my first attempt, so be gentle!

Shot at numerous locations over the last few months, including a re-shoot for the band sequences as I couldn't' stand how the first set turned out.  (hated the background.)  We also got very, very lucky with the weather for the outdoor battle scene. Considering we had no budget at all,   I was shocked by how many people showed up for that  shoot!  Enjoy!

I thought I would share some shots of my compact Moeller rig.   The tiny lens is the Pentax Auto 110 2.8/50mm lens, which has a rotating front element, which is not a problem in my setup and is just perfect for a 2.35:1 crop.   A really great feature is that I can set up for precision verticality once and thereafter all my shoots are perfectly aligned. Goodbye slanted video.   Another great feature of the lens support is that it lets me use auto focus rear lenses. I just focus the Moeller and half press the camera shutter to focus the rear lens and I am done. This makes life with a double focus system a breeze.   I decided to name this "Scope on a Rope" :P

    @ Nick

No footage yet, I have only just put the final touches to the rig - still waiting on minor parts like metal knobs etc.

I did a quick test with stills with the Moeller and Auto 110 2.8/50mm see below

The first is at MFD plus 1 Zeiss Proxar and the second with 2 Zeiss Proxars 0.5 bayonetted together, sharp enough for me :P

My wish list is even shorter than Andrew's: I'd love to see a GH3 with no moire, 10-bit 422 HDMI output, and a convenient way to connect an XLR (like the "grip-style" add on for the Sony A99) for around $3,500.

Mondo reacted to Andrew Reid in Vimeo On-Demand service, - what do you think?
People are willing to pay for original content they can't get anywhere else. As long as it is high quality, quick and convenient.

One of the best things Vimeo did here was have Don Hertzfeldt animation It's Such a Beautiful Day as a launch title. If you haven't seen it yet, get it. I love the minimalism of the animation and how much personality and dark humour is in it. It is completely blessed of the hand of an artist.

Mondo reacted to Axel in Starter kit and advice for newbie
It's called 3-point-stabilization, and it's valid for classic SLRs (with grip on the side) as well as classic Super 8 cameras (with pistol grip).

    1. Right hand takes the grip
    2. Right eye is pressed to eyepiece (hurts with the small and flat eyepiece of the GH2, I admit)
    3. Bottom of camera body (in case of a pistol grip the lens itself) rests on left palm underneath. Left thumb and forefinger operate focus.

In the Star Trek series they often lament about the "structural integrity" of their spaceship. This is the first thing your shoulder rig must be: As tightly screwed together (with camera and everything) as if milled out of one solid block of metal ...

And move your feet? Well, you can practice to walk like for 'the ministry of silly walks'. You can absorb quite a lot of instability by keeping your gluteus maximus under tension. No joke.

But generally neither a pistol grip nor a shoulder rig are meant to walk with them.

Use a glidecam or s.th. like that for stabilized handheld shots. If they are to look like dolly shots, you have to exercise A LOT.

Mondo reacted to Axel in Novice film maker looking for some your wisdom
Simple story, but with a lot of possibilities. Write a good dialogue (not too many words), make the order a little love story. He instantly falls in love with her, which makes his frustration even more funny and gives him a better motivation to learn intensively. Keep the learning sequence short, you could superimpose floating english words that fade in and out. His ambition could be funny again. When the day comes, he is surprised (as she is and we are) that he asks her to have coffee with him (or something more witty, english is not my native language). Happy end, a classic.

For a beginner, it's perhaps best not to move the camera too much. Find a classic, conservative framing, capture clean dialogue (use at least a good directional mike, mono), you better mix atmo and music in post.

Biggest challenge is direction. Wise directors said, there is no bad acting, only bad directing. Meaning: Don't teach your talents how to act. Take your time. Change the script, change the story on set. Don't rehearse, just start over with the changes. Tailor dialogue and action so that your character fits to the actor, never conversely. Don't cut a dialogue scene into one-sentence-takes during the shoot. Repeat the scene in complete length from other POVs. Let them repeat often. Don't praise or criticize too much. Stay serious and NEVER lose your nerve. Cater (softdrinks, coffee and sandwiches, don't start with beer and pizza, both demoralize).

Overacting is not funny. It's the situation that must be funny.

Please post your finished work in our 'screening room'.
