    Thanks Julian.

If you do another test please can you try -2 sharpness and contrast in the middle on both cameras?

G6 is certainly softer but I think that is due to the image processing applying less sharpening than the one on the GH2.

    Thanks guys!
The film has already won best of festival awards and Best Short awards at two festivals....and its not even in its final cut.
We just rendered the final copy out today. Its total runtime is about 17 minutes, and it was shot entirely using an ISCO anamorphic set.

Heres some more stills from the film.

I'm on a free Vimeo account, so only 720p there, but I agree the compression on Youtube sucks.

Probably will shoot some more stuff tomorrow. I'll try to upload some original clips via wetransfer.

I know this is a C mount compatability list but is anyone interested in other cine lens options?

I've got some old Arri ST lenses and a nice new adapter from Metabones that I'll be trying in the next few days.

Should I post results here or keep this one to C mount lenses?

I picked up the 6mm fisheye.. I have more that should be in any day now to test, as well.

For some reason I was locked out of my account. Not sure why. I am AdamCinema.

Anyways, I buckled down and rented an Iscorama 35mm and 50mm. Really nice little kit, and I shot my entire senior thesis with this lens.

The kit came with 4 diopters and an Achromat in addition to the lenses. I really wish I had, had the money to buy it after I rented it. Here are some stills from the film.

This is great news. It appears that the G6 possibly performs even better than the GH2! (contrary to what earlier videos showed).

I took both cityscape screenshots and put them together for detail comparison. I sharpened the G6 one a tiny little bit to match the GH2 (which brought up a little artifacting), as well as touching levels a little.

GH2 on the left, G6 on the right.

    Hope is back.

I have high hopes for this camera too.  I can't wait to dump my GH2s.  Hacks are only good for the most extreme detail.  But in reality, there's way less banding and better noise with the G6.  And I hope I won't have to use the most expensive Sandisk cards and I can go back to using 32GB cards.

    Panasonic GH2 hacked
Moon Trial 5 hack, shot in 1080p HBR mode 25 fps (~ 60Mbps)
    Standard profile -2-2-2-2
    Panasonic 14-42mm kitlens, OIS on.

Looks like there are some dropped frames in the GH2 footage, did use a Sandisk 95MB/s card though...

    Panasonic G6
    AVCHD 1080p 25 fps (24Mbps)
    Standard profile -5-5-5-5
    Panasonic 14-42mm kitlens, OIS on.

Everything shot with the same fixed white balance at 1/50s, various apertures but same on both camera's at all times.

    My first impressions:
The G6 looks better to me. Better shadow detail and a bit more detail in the highlights. Probably due to flatter picture.

The G6 shares the picture styles with the GH3, so no smooth like on the GH2.  Kept both camera's on standard to keep it as close as possible. Everything dialed down maximum.

Less noise at high iso's, less banding. Couldn't detect any moire.

Looks a tad less sharp than (hacked) GH2, but that could be up to the sharpening at -5. With some sharpening probably same detail level.

Rolling shutter looks the same to me.

Although the G6 is a bit smaller I actually prefer the grip to the GH2. It holds very nicely. The lcd is much much better. The color cast on the GH2 screen is horrible. The G6 looks pretty natural and true to the output. Funny thing: the viewfinder looks quite smaller to me.

I shot hacked with Moon Trial 5 at HBR (60Mbps). Might do more tests later. But it already looks pretty good for the G6 I think, so if I don't have to 'unhack' my GH2 I might keep it this way. On the other hand, I should try some more/other hacks.. so If I find the time :)

I'm planning on making some screendumbs so you can see the actual quality, the youtube compression is pretty harsh. Don't have time now, but here are some examples (make sure you see the full res 1080p image).

    G6 on top, GH2 below. ISO 3200 and 160.
No tripod, so not a perfect test.

The red lenses look like normal spherical lenses to me, you don't need them. You need a way to fix the golden lens to your taking lens on the 5D Mark III (probably you need at least 80mm to avoid black corners).

I have one of those big gold ISCO's, the quality is great, but it's a huge beast...

Here is a topic on those lenses: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/972-isco-anamorphic-projection-lenses/

You can use the Velbon SPT-1 to make an anamorphic rig. Also you need a tripod collar. You can buy a genuine one for the Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro on eBay from China for like $5, it fits on my Isco and it looks pretty much the same.

With the Velbon and tripod collar you get this:

A little early plug of our latest product...  a slight step up from the original little FF58.  This is early sample footage of a prototype we are working on.  Single focus, a lomo-esq integrated anamorphic lens, based on our FF58 with an anamorphot we are developing.  Single focus, but using the LOMO focus method rather than the iscorama method.  this is a f2.8 50mm anamorphic lens system.  no diopters are used.  focus currently is from 4.5ft-infinity.  with lomo-like sharpness, and flares from the gods:)

Lets hear some critique from you anamorphic nutters!.  We don't want to go into technicals as yet, but would love to hear some unbiased opinions on the look where getting from this first prototype.

in the movie you will see Hans using his Oct 18 square front and a FF58 in our new Bronze tint.  but all footage is shot with our newly developed anamorphot.

I found a manual for Minolta Super 8 camera's, there it mentions a close up filter that brings the focus range from [1.2 - infinity] down to [40 - 50 cm]. Any idea what the power would be based on that information?

I guess what I'm getting at is that for wide angle lens' adapter manufacturing quality does start to matter.

With a small sensor wide lens' are very intolerant of back focus errors.
The B&H Angenieux 10mm f1.8 is a fantastic lens. They cost a fortune when they were new.
The lack of focus wide open in the test shot back in post #88 could well be down to incorrect flange depth.
I put more faith in Pierre Angenieux than I do in a $10 C mount adapter!

I don't have a C to M43 to test this but I do have a cheapo ebay C to Nikon 1 adapter for my J1.
I'll put my Ang 10mm on my J1 and check it against a focus chart and see.

    Hi All, really useful thread.

Just waiting on some C mount adapters to arrive and I will add my lenses results to the list.

One thing I don't think has been fully addressed is the quality and accuracy of the adapters.
In order to achieve correct flange depth they have to be accurate to at least 1/100th of a millimeter ( possibly even 1/1000th )
I've also noticed on my C to Nikon 1 adapter is off centre. Vignetting is always greater in the top corners rather than the bottom, suggesting the C mount hole is above centre. (Could also be that the sensor is mis aligned, but i'm more inclined to trust Nikon than the adapter)

Given that most adapters are really cheap it may be worth us sharing info on the adapters we are using.
It won't have much effect on sensor coverage but will have a big effect on ability to focus, barrel distance marks and overall focus issues.

I have a couple cheapies on order from Ebay but they may well come from the same workshop in China so may be identical. We'll see...
I also have the much more expensive Metabones adapter on it's way which seems to have a very wide base for the lens. Again we'll see...

Julian, wouldn't you be better off modifying an adapter rather than your lens?
Cheaper to replace an adapter than a lens?

Thanks! I was pulling focus while shooting. I had to throw some gaff tape on the zoom ring, as it was easy to nudge.
I was stopped down at f 4 actually. Looking back I would have rather been wide open to get the DoF shallower... but in the moment, with riding the focus and hitting all the marks.. I was concerned about having something out of focus.About 30 tries over a course of 4 hours. We had a camera rehearsal the day before.

using a low power achromat will cure the softness big time..
even without achromat the anamorphic is holding up much better than the optical recipe should.

Nikon D7100 video quality is much better than A77.

Sony Alpha mount is very limited too, almost nothing you can adapt to it and less lenses available.

A thing you should keep in mind for the D7100: it has an annoying 'feature': you cant change the aperture on electronic lenses while in video mode (you have to go out of video mode, change the aperture, go back into video mode). Using manual focus lenses with manual aperture control fix this problem.
