Been working on this one for quite some time...  Just in time for the premiere for season 3 tonight, my Game of Thrones spoof, "Winter is Coming."

Shot on hacked GH2 with a Bolex anamorphic.  Mounted with an awesome clamp by Redstan  (seriously, top-notch stuff.  Well worth the wait/cash.)   Taking lenses were Nikon 35 f2.8, Konica 40 1.7, Nikon 50 1.2, and Super Tak 135.

Color by Shian Storm's ColorGhear, my first attempt, so be gentle!

Shot at numerous locations over the last few months, including a re-shoot for the band sequences as I couldn't' stand how the first set turned out.  (hated the background.)  We also got very, very lucky with the weather for the outdoor battle scene. Considering we had no budget at all,   I was shocked by how many people showed up for that  shoot!  Enjoy!

Shot the following this weekend as part of the Sci-Fi London 48 Hour Film Challenge. It's a bit rough and I wish I'd had a little time to apply some NR to the Driftwood hack as it doesn't compress too well.

Shot on GH2, Bolex 16/32/1.5x using Canon FD 35/2 and 50/1.4. One scene (lift) shot with Tokina 11-16 and given a 2.40 matte. Settings -2,-2,-2,-2 Moon Trial 5. Used mix of natural daylight and Arri Blonde / Redhead with 1-stop CTB.

those pentax lenses are great the 50mm and 70mm are sharp
    18mm is also very good
I stop them down by adding a small washer on the rear to reduce the appeture - they go even sharper then

Hey everyone, looking forward to seeing some of the cool stuff that you all come up with using the V1.  I got mine yesterday and shot this little piece today.  Nothing fancy, but impressed with what it can do.  Definitely won't replace my HDSLR's but it is a fun tool to use and play with.  Enjoy!

OzNimbus reacted to dahlfors in Tip: quick viewing of anamorphic footage in VLC
Since I don't always want to fire up my videos in an editing program when I do some quick viewings of the shots, here's how to use VLC for viewing footage in different aspect ratios.

On VLC in Windows it is easy:
    - go to Preferences -> All -> Video and you'll find a field where you can enter custom aspect ratios, separated by commas. Keep in mind that VLC only wants whole numbers without decimals, so to get 2.66:1 and 3.55:1 ratios, you would type in: 266:1,355:100

On VLC in Mac OS X:
    - There isn't unfortunately not anywhere to input this in the application interface, and I just spent some time figuring this out and I'm sharing the howto for you guys, since I couldn't find this information anywhere else on the net!

    1) Locate the VLC preferences file: ~/Library/Preferences/org.videolan.vlc/vlcrc

Note: ~ equals your home folder for your user, e.g. /Users/myusername. The preferences file is created the first time you run VLC, like Caleb mentions further down in this forum thread. You might want to make a copy of this file before you edit it, just in case...

    2) Look for the line that says (lines marked with a # character in front are comments that are ignored by VLC):

    # Custom aspect ratios list (string)
    #custom-aspect-ratios=

After that, just add a line that says:

    custom-aspect-ratios=266:100,300:100,355:100

Then you will get the custom aspect ratios 266:100, 300:100 and 355:100 (2.66:1, 3:1, 3.55:1) to choose from in the VLC interface (Video -> Aspect ratio in the menu). Again, keep in mind that VLC won't accept decimals like 2.35:1 for custom aspect ratios. They must be entered like 235:100.

cheers man. great bit of info. ow do we set it so a custom stretch out stays as default? if you are going through 50 individual video files and having to click 'video, aspect ratio, etc' for every clip it is very tiresome

OzNimbus reacted to Mauri D.Galiano in Bolex Anamorphot 16/32 1.5x ... My little gem
    Hi everyone

     I´m a young video director from Madrid-spain, (www.MauriDGaliano.com)

I want to share with this great community my passion for  vintage Anamorphic Lenses.

I´ve been reading this forum a lot of times, but is the first time that i write something.

Allow me the honor to share my last Anamorphic video, a Drum cover for the Artist "Deivhook",the best Drummer in Spain.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13zPG1ebHlo

    I shoot this video with my basic set: Panasonic GH2 Flowmotion v2.2 + fd50mm 1.8 + Bolex Anamorphot 16/32 1.5x.

The Bolex is the little girl of all my lenses...the "jewel of the crown",

The  rare 1.5x ratio suits perfect for almost everything, and its super-easy to make the double focus with it, in this video theres no flares, but this lens have the best flares  i´ve seen. Flare sooo easy, blue-deeply flares like Panavision C series. Mindblowing.

Now i have a clamp, from VidAtlantic, but im interested in upgrade to Redstan, i´ve seen that redstan have a custom Clamp for the little brother of my lens, the 8/19 1.5x, And im asking myself if he has one custom clamp for my lens.

Someone can give me the contact of Redstan?

I hope that you enjoy the video!

If someone have a question about the lens, ask me!

PD: I already knows that i suck writing in english, sorry!

Got my Bolex about three weeks ago.   Got my Redstan clamp last week & it's fantastic!  I hope to get out into the field tomorrow & do some serious shooting with it.   I've done some minor test-shoots with it & it's great....   On the GH2, I can shoot with a super Tak 35mm at f2 with the very slightest vignette.   Stopped down, it increases.   28mm gives a little to much vignette, IMO... The Restan Clamp can only get the two lenses so close together.... they'd have to be touching to get rid of the vignette, probably.
The Konica 40mm is sharp as hell even at f1.7... and there's almost zero distortion.... Freakin' awesome.
Here it is on the Tak 35.   Dual focusing is really NOT an issue.  It's fast & simple.

Oh, I also forgot to mention, it'll focus at 1.5 feet!   Screw the diopter crap, this thing rocks!   Close ups are soooo nice!

I'll be shooting a music video with it later this month as well... should be a lot of fun... hoping for some "Monty Python" inspired violence!

    Hey guys,

I've run a recording studio for about 15 years now, and find myself running into the same issues over and over again. I've also been giving the same speech for about as long, and thought I'd compile it into a short "how to" video for YouTube.

Bring your sense of humor, as I don't pull any punches.

    Shot on a GH2, ISCO Ultra-Star, and 37mm Mir.

48fps wont be the new standard, 24fps has always been the staple and I dont see that changing. On the other hand, if cinema's wanted me to pay a premium, it'll be for watching a screen thats not horribly projected(bulb turned down for cost reasons) and being seated with actual polite audience who dont bring their kids/baby's to a Rated-R movie, and having people use their phones during a movie.

So I'd rather pay for a more polite humanity haha :D
