TONY SCOTT

I was sad to see on the BBC News today that British Director Tony Scott has died. I'm sure we are all familiar with his work , he was one of the few British Directors to have multiple Hollywood hit films. His films with Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer in the 80's are classics and pioneered the 'High Concept Genre'. The Scott Brothers with their company Scott Free (Sir Ridley Scott) have been a huge part of the British Film Industry over the past 40 years including a sucessful bid to continue to keep Shepperton Studios running here in the UK in the 90's. Put on 'Top Gun' turn up the Sound track we salute you Tony.......
8. I didn't see 'supermarket lighting' at all ...it just looked pleasing to my eye! me and all my work colleagues liked the GH2 in the blind test and picked it as one of our top 3 as it looked good. Its all so subjective! Any how I like the GH2 its a great little camera....... it punches way above its weight!!
9. wow that is heated at provideo coalition.com!! Steve Weiss has a point , he's put alot of time and effort and money into this test, it's been very educational for all of us ! ............. for Free!!! he didn't have to do it ! and I think long term it will have inspired alot of people to pick up a camera from what ever price range they can afford to get shooting knowing that their results are not that far off the big cameras if you know what you are doing.
10. Rolling Shutter has been an issue for me on the GH2 so I have to work around it more than I had to with Canons , so Im waiting to see how good the BMC is with rolling shutter........
11.
This gets boring very quickly. 1 - it wasn't just fanboys trumpeting the GH2, it was Francis Ford Coppola. 2. I find the fanboy thing offensive because it implies a lack of technical judgement, clouded by emotion. Go and tell the grading studio Andy Lee knows in the UK who said the GH2 holds up brilliantly in post - and they have been dealing with stuff from Red and Alexa for years.
Andrew has done a superb job of bring the GH2 to a much wider group of people because of this forum he has set up. I for one only considered switching to a GH2 from years with Canons because of Andrew's work detailing how to get the best out of this great little camera. I reciently took a hard disc full of GH2 footage to be graded on a Flame Hi end machine at the Facilitys House I have been using for nearly 20 years now......and they are very used to handling Arri Alexa, Canon C300 and Red Raw Files for feature films they have edited and commercials. The GH2 footage looked superb on their ref monitors AND had a big lattitue in the grade and held alot of infomation that could be pulled out if needed.... I was runing Driftwood Quantum 9b hack exactly like the Zacuto shoot out. They said these files are as good as any Red or Arri file was have worked on, the GH2 footage I shot was comparable to those cameras and in that bracket of quality and detail. We all have the choise to use what ever camera we want ...I think for me the GH2 is a great camera for the money and gives me the quaility that is almost as good as the bigger more expensive cameras like Epic, Arri and Sony F65 if used creatively and with good lighting. Andrew has shot some superb looking films with his GH2 as have many many other people accross the world and people will continue to do so. The GH2 is genuinely democratising film making for all of us! So get shooting and get busy !!
12. I agree too many people get too caught up the the tec spec and not how a whole project looks. "If it looks good... it is good!"
13. Gh2 in the right hands if you know what you are doing is a GREAT CAMERA I'm totally sold on it and I am getting stunning results from it. I'm very happy with it hacked with Driftwood Quantum 9b like they used in the shoot out. Andrew has done a great job pushing this camera on this forum to new people - like me ! Get out and shoot creative stuff with it!!
14. I use Tamron zooms on the GH2 and they are great lens
15. I use Super Takumar lenses alot that are very sharp and good ! I like using the 17mm f4 also Pentax 50mm f1.7 and 28mm f2.8 are great lenses in PK mount the 28-80 zoom is useful too
16. I'm selling my very rare Henri Chretien Hypergonar Serie C made by S.T.O.P in Nice France for Twentieth Century Fox in 1952 This is lens no34 of 100 of the the first ever batch of Cinemascope lenses ever made , this is Pre Bausch and Lomb making cinemscope lenses. 17. I use vodka and tissue paper to clean lenses - it works a treat!
18. Hi Tia, Tecnoir is my company that makes Cinema Rigs http://www.tecnoir.co.uk/ we do make a custom mounting adaptor for the 15mm rod rig for the Schneider PM me for more details
19. These Schneider and Isco lenses are stunningly sharp - Ilke nothing else out there, I would say optically as good as Panavision PL mount Anamorphic lenses for Arri etc. Think about it logically.... Universal , Warner Bros etc spend $180 million on a feature film they get the best lenses possible to shoot thier movie... do you really think they would let their $180 million dollar film get projected through inferior glass at a Multiplex Cinema ? ? No of course they don't....... they use German made Schneider and Isco lenses to project their $180 million dollar film at the cinema ... so it looks stunningly sharp just like they shot it for you . these lenses cost over $5000 - $6500 EACH and they are much sharper than Iscoromas, Proskars, Sankors, Suns, Ruralscopes, Mostys etc etc. I have been using these lenses for years now. They mount onto my rig really well and are very easy to use and alot cheaper then chaising a over priced secondhand 1500 pound m42 Iscorama on ebay. There are lots of stunning lenses out their... I have owned and tested over 100+ anamorphic lenses in my career and tried them all out. Schneiders are King .....very very good. They are optically the best Cinema anamorphics made as we are now in the final years of 35mm projection as Multiplexes and theatres switch to Digital Projectors and ditch their anamorphic lenses....the Schneiders are the final generation of super sharp Anamorphic projection lenses. nuff said!!
20.
Hey Mondo, just a warning, don't go buying a lens like the one in the link above, it's a projector lens and ain't no good for shooting!
I respectfully disagree with you! I have sucessfully used these lenses for 7 years now! this lens is stunning! it cost over $5000 , the lens was made reciently by Schneider in Germany to project 35mm Hollywood Blockbuster movies in multiplexes! Its industrial quality stunningly sharp modern glass , focuses down to 10 feet with no diopter and is only 14cm long. The images from this lens are Canon L Series quality!! super sharp superb glass! This is not some 1970's 16mm old glass rubbish made for home cinema! here is the Schneier only Tecnoir Cinema Rig

22. Yashica 24mm f2.8 (contax/yashica mount) Zeiss sharpness very good lens on the GH2 works out at 48mm full frame eqivilant .... so its like having a 50mm standard lens on your GH2 I use this lens alot also Carl Zeiss Flektogon 35mm F2.4 - killer lens on the Gh2
23.
