Filmmaking is a combination of circumstances for sure. But, I don't think it is the case of glass here, we both bet ; ) To my eyes, the secret there is on post production, I'd say. Once he says he's not using any NR on post, I guess grading can help him out too. Without mention he refers he's overexposing V-log 1-2 stops in-camera, so maybe that's there a good trick to handle it. Have you already tested the tip?

What's your current personal camera nowadays?

Not exactly underexpose by default but some underexposure techniques can help. As for instance, from what I've seen the GH5 footage can really shine especially if you have the highlights under control...

Panasonic GH5 and G7.

I replaced GH4 and G6 (both great cameras!) and had BlackMagic Pocket and Micro, some Canon etc... but the Lumix are the camera I like most. I recently used the RED Scarlet W, amazing camera, but I'm more then happy with the easy GH5 with V-LogL  

Yes I really do think a shallow DOF is a poor man's 24p
Of the two things that inform the film look they are very important and so if you have faux 24p you better shoot full frame to compensate
On the other-hand you can say shallow DOF is overrated as there's a lot of deep DOF stuff which looks cinematic. I shoot with my rare Iscorama 2x ("Centavision" branded but really an Iscorama 42 with 2x stretch) at F5.6 with a gentle roll off to the background, not really a shallow DOF, and I didn't miss the full frame look, and I've shot with the Digital Bolex which had an incredible film like analogue feel to the sensor, the colour, rendering, the whole thing screamed FILM not SMALL CHIP!
Even with the ultimate shallow DOF lens, the Leica Noctilux... it isn't the razor thin shallow DOF at F1 that is best about it... the overall rendering, vignetting, bokeh shape at the edges and pop to the contrast is what makes it.

I think this phone is in Berlin at the moment at IFA. I'll have a look on Monday.

The major credit card had about 300 bucks of remaining limit. Flights to pay. Weeks of shooting to repeat for direct sound and dialogue. Script re-written with Marco Tullio Giordana on the purpose in order to fit the Portuguese actress (Ana Moreira) casted for the lead female character had to be reduced. And the character had to be cut off. The actress had no role anymore for her contribution and ours as co-producer despite the hard work and participation in the movie as such, after never ending hours of working time. I went to hospital with heart arrhythmia (my 1st experience with Inderal) following two nights and days with absolute no rest for the weary.
In the end, the movie is still considered one of the major hits of recent Italian cinema (won five awards in Venice BTW, nominated for the Golden Globes, USA and so on) and helped to launch both Marco Tullio and Lo Cascio careers in their next collaboration together La Meglio Gioventù / The Best of Youth, an epic of 2003 all Italians easily recognise as the History of the second half of their XX century.

I see rather the opposite.
On the contrary, I don't see anything from others from same range (when not higher) you can't mimic (or even overcome) on GH5... And that includes Blackmagics.

To me, that's also the typical self-confidence attitude that you're able to get it better no matter what 'cause "I am or my camera is the one". A reverse of my neighbour's grass is greener. This is very human, but simply not science.
I'm sorry but I only see subjectivity on GH5 criticism when not to justify why "I am not in the mood or don't want or simply won't buy the camera for whatever reason is" under different circumstances varying from case to case obviously; sorta non-investment excuse or alike. Also because I concur we all need to defend previous investments already done or recently made... Nothing more : ) Well, maybe only food for thought or just my two cents :-)

Funny that Sony added picture profiles and Slog in a $700 action camera but removed them in their professional $4.5K FF camera. 
But yes, the lack of internal 4k will kill it as a solution for drones. Probably a 5min limit would not work well with an action camera

From what I have seen GH5 can produce really nice colors once the proper LUT is used
James Miller GH5 examples are still the reference point for me. The new firmware will only improve the colors from that so for $1800 is a steal. 
Now if we talk about a $7500 camera the expectations are higher. 4 times higher to be exact...

Glad to see a de-squeeze function, although 1.79x should be included since this is required to go from 4:3 to DCI 2.39:1 without cropping.  Of course, I'm biased since I'm currently developing 1.79x lenses!  Need to start lobbying Panasonic to add a few lines to their firmware . . .

Yes it is possible to use 4:3 as a normal recording mode and crop to whatever aspect ratio you like, such as 16x9
It is only just dawning on me for some reason, that they added a 5K video mode, haha.

Wow, just wow... Respect for Panasonic just went up big time. Canon who? This is amazing, Panasonic have gone above and beyond my wildest expectations with this update. My decision to invest in the Panasonic system now justified. Canon never did anything like this for us. I am still waiting to see what EVA1 brings, but if the lowlight performance is there, I can see it making a nice addition to my tool kit. If not, another GH5 will be in the cards. In any case, this is massive. The competition is surely looking stupid right now. Hey Sony, Canon, Nikon etc... this is how you earn customers business and repeat business.

It's just too bad there is no 10bit and no All i for 4k60p. I film everything at 60p to have the luxury to slowdown in post a shot I did not know I would slow down when shooting. 
Using this camera for 4k60p only and not benefitting from All I and from 10bit is such a shame.
