I saw that one last night. Nice review. And, so many hidden features. I can imagine 5k Photo Modes (pre-burst, post focus etc) easily covering most photography needs. 

hahaha. Those are bad bokehs. 

Yeah, the out of focus highlights can look like footballs. 

I spoke about Live Cropping before, and how this is a great way of doing away with almost every kind of dolly shot (Depending upon whether it is 4k, or 5k, or 6k, and whether the final delivery is in HD or 720p). If the GH5 gets 5k, this could improve even further. 

Also, a lot of his shots are handheld (with Dual Stabilization of the lens and camera), and the Live Cropping still looks stellar. 


 
 

I would perhaps even cut it by 30 secs or a minute and leave some of the shots that are more of the same or not as powerful as some as the others out. There's some really cool stuff in there.

What this can't do is replicate the movement when you have objects in the foreground because the lens is stationary, so no sliding out from behind objects and such. I think that's what Phil was talking about. 
With IBIS you can do slider like movements and take advantage of the parallax effect and stay in 4k. I don't think I'd ever use the in cam feature, I'd just go handheld for the better visual or do it in post.

Yeah, I am pretty excited. I had zero regrets or remorse listing those lenses today. I wasn't planning on getting this lens so quickly, but one came up and I threw out a lowball offer and they accepted it. Now I need to raise some money to get the GX85 because I want to make sure I like it before I sell my G7. 
 
 

hahaha. True. But also, all sliders don't have that curved trajectory. Most of them at straight, so that's asking a lot. 

That looks pretty good for something in-camera. I'm not sure if I'm going to be that organised to get this type of shot because it seems it needs to be very "pre-planned." And yes, it's missing the paralax, but still I thinks it's a cool creative option... especially the hand-held part.

All reports on this camera as the one to get for your intended use. I agree the Zoom H1 isn't the greatest, but it's a heck of deal for 100 bucks. I just use it on a boom stand 12-18 inches away or with a lav... seems to work well that way. It's got a cheap build though.
The IBIS in this camera, from what I see from preproduction models, is quite good in static shots replacing a tripod or walking type shots. It removes micro jitters, but it doesn't do well in panning- seems to play catchup when moving a little too much. It might be optimised a little more when the production version is released. Another point is that with movement comes blur... 4k needed? Just saying...
As for the stills, it will do great for my needs. Will it be the best? No. I think other cameras are better, but not leaps and bounds better. I would say single digit percentage better, not new category better. For that, people should be looking at medium format. Also, when was the last time you printed something bigger than A3? We're at a point in photography that the problem with most people's photos is not the camera. I include myself in that category.

They can tweak the Cinelike D & V (Especially since they would have disabled the HDMI for external recording). Their burst mode is the same as the GX8, which is pretty stellar. I hope they improve a few things via firmware.
I believe Panasonic needs to work with Manufacturers, and have Atleast 3 good and affordable f.95 lenses in place, a 24mm (12.5mm), a 35mm (17.5mm)and a 50mm (25mm) equivalent prime range. Maybe they could collaborate with Sigma for the cheaper lenses (or even Mitakon, since the only noticeable issues with Mitakon lenses appear to be 'incorrect' f-stop marking on the lens, and the flare, which frankly I feel may be adding to dynamic range, like a ultra-low density filter). 
I also hope Panasonic improves its supply chain. Here they still Don't have the G7, GX8, LX100, etc etc. They got the FZ1000 a short while ago. I had met a council in Panasonic a year or so ago, and the first thing I told him was that their marketing and supply chain is crap. He agreed, and also insinuated some shady stuff happening inside Panasonic, but it ended there. No improvement in either department. 

I see the Canon 1300D Ads EVERYWHERE. They could have spent Atleast a Few Million Dollars in each country. Panasonic still has terrible marketing, for many countries. 
 

I thought this might be the case. I'm still curious with the gx80 as it's the first AA-free filter sensor from Panasonic and the Venus engine. I'm sure it's going to increase the difficulty in removing moiré. Then again, we probably shouldn't be too obsessed with that.
I'm not sure if it would matter for this model as they've already started manufacturing. Also, I'm sure they're aware of what we want and I'm also sure they were very careful about what they didn't include in this camera. I think they don't want the only reason for why you would buy a GH5 to be ergonomics and a couple more picture profiles. Still, telling them to include a 30 cent microphone jack probably can't hurt... especially considering the flawed sound from the GX80/85.

1. I agree, Panasonic did a shitty thing by saving on the tiny expenditure of a mic socket, and to save the GX7 line. 
2. The IBIS is noisy. Though, TBO, not any more, or less, that the one on the Olympus' either. I dunno how silent it is on the Sonys. 
Though, I feel, for good audio, one always still needs an (or a few) external mic(s). Also, I wonder of the shoe mount is active or passive, and whether Panasonic can fix the missing mic socket issue, by allowing 
3. Actually, most Panasonic cameras fix moire and other things in-camera, and they do it pretty well. I am guessing that either this is a non-Panasonic lens, or the the user didn't switch between Panasonic and non-Panasonic lenses, in camera. But, it is pretty bad. The Fringing is very weird looking. Almost like Iridescent of some sort. It almost looks like her jacket is a 2-tone jacket.

It's not a good thing to have to fix photos for things like purple fringing in post. It almost has that strange iridescence look. 
I think we should inform Panasonic on all social media, and keep telling them what we want in the GX80/ GX85/ GX7ii. 

Yes, something rather "cheeky" in her look, to use a British expression.
So far,  the only concerns I've had about this camera are:
1) Lack of Microphone (just use external recorder)
2) IBIS potentially ruins audio (again, just use external recorder)
3) Potentially, the lack off AA filter could lead to more moiré. I'm just not sure on how this will translate into video and exactly how much Panasonic modified their Venus engine to manage it. I took the photo into Lightroom and fixed it easily. I just hope the Venus engine can do the same in processing.

The video is actually very impressive. And his daughter knows her daddy is filming her and is in full form (with her cute facial expressions and head turns) in the video.

Looks good to me! For me, this is the camera to get, even if it doesn't have a microphone input.

From what I gather, the IBS ruins the in-body sound; so, you're only left with the option of off-camera sound. I've got a Zoom H1 and I plan on using it to the fullest with this camera. It's a cumbersome process to keep track of the audio and matching video files, but I find that if I do it immediately after sooting, it works.
So far, I've sold off a bunch of gear too... only my RX100 to go. Last month, I had bought a GX7 (before sending it back because the GX80/85 appeared) and just loved the combo of the GX7's Natural profile and an easy grading option of film convert. With the FZ300, Panasonic really gives you everything but a large sensor; however, I'd trade the microphone input for a large sensor, pocket-ability and the interchangeable lenses any day. The GX80 is going to be a great option for off-the-cuff style shots and possibly more serious projects too- a great allrounder. Some will say not an A camera, but in the right hands, it could be.

So basically it is a Tascam DR-10X with a microphone glued on permanently, and a hotshoe.
Still, a really good idea. A strong competitor to the Shure VP83F LensHopper & Saramonic Vmic Recorder Video Microphone.
But I just wish Zaxcom had not crushed legally the sales of Tascam DR-10C in the United States, as that is what this link I'd hoped would be about.

Matt says they are seriously considering 10 bit 4-2-2 Internal. That would be Huge. And maybe moving to Faster Cards too. 
 

I just want the 5-axis, better low light, a recording YAGH for backup and the same focus transitioning as the 80d without the stuttering and self doubt. I know, not easy, but not incredibly out of reach either.
The YAGH was a missed opportunity to replace the AF100 but the idea was really clever, I hope you're right and sell a new version.

Does this count? There's Still a Lack of a good dual sound recording microphone (on an SD or MicroSD). The Shure Lenshopper is good, but not directional enough. This is cheaper by $100, and even records a safety track. And either headphone or mic input  (I am guessing only 1 of the 2). Looks terrible, but who really cares about how it looks?
