  1. This camera excites me. I wasn't planning on any new camera gear this year, but I have to admit this seems to be checking many boxes for me.
  2. This actually has me excited. Can't wait to see more of what it does in the hands of some good shooters posting on Vimeo and Youtube. The amazing Olympus 5-axis always made me a bit jealous if those cameras.
  3. Hilarious, To be fair though, comparing it to the GH2 isn't fair. I went back and shot with my GH2 a few weeks ago and the image still inspires me. No way I'm going back to DLSR's with mirrors and no EVF.
  4. That carnival footage looks fantastic. The camera is the right size, has great specs and some novel features.
  5. doesn't look good, and I'd probably pass on this product if I was in the market for this kind of camera. But, how does this flaw look in real world shooting situations? any examples of it showing up in a normal shot?
  6. The G7 actually looks quite good in this test. Good DR.
  7. VLOG is going to be a tricky beast to tame. I was shooting some stuff outside the house last night and some looks super clean, and some looks super noisy. My emotions went between disappointment and joy a half dozen times in a half hour! People are going to be so frustrated with this until they wrap their hands around exactly how it all works. I need more time with it.
  8. Aaron, Nice job, I just downloaded your clip and did a quick grade myself and I'm impressed! VLOG looks like a winner. I haven't played with it yet myself. been slammed at work with other projects. I hate to use the word, but yep. it's VERY FILMIC!
  9. Well, I already ordered it and will leave the order stand because I'm glad Panasonic did it, but I'll shoot some things with V-Log and try it out over the next few days like everyone else. Wonder how Panasonic let this one slip by?
  10. I have a question, Would it be possible to expose using something like the Standard Profile, then switch to V-Log for shooting? I can definitely see some problems trying to get accurate exposure while in V-Log? Should I expose using the histogram and meter on the camera? Never used a log format before so pardon the newbie question.
  11. The more powerful the tool, the more chance people will screw it up. What it does is makes us have to sift through a lot of crap to find the gems. I doubt Steve Jobs would want a LOG profile on an Apple Camera. He'd come up with a half dozen "Insanely Brilliant" color profiles and want you to stick to them. and 99% would be happy to follow.
  12. I think there are a few reasons for this. 1. The world economies aren't doing great. 2. Canon hasn't offered anything radically new that people wouldn't be happy with their 5 year old Canons. 3. Mirrorless, mostly Sony is killing it right now. Canon is becoming more like a dinosaur in comparison every day. 4. People take pics with and invest in phone technology now.
  13. I really want a Speed Booster XL, but it's been a difficult summer and sneaking it past my wife has proven troublesome. She's getting tired of my camera gear purchases. gotta find a few things to sell I think.
  14. I like how the speed booster makes the lens sharper than when used natively without a speed booster. Now with AF, for Stills shooting this would be fantastic. has anyone tried any crazy wide EF lenses with the speed booster? something like an 11mm EF lens?
  15. October? Man that's a long time to wait. Here I was hoping to have it before my summer vacation. Still, I'll wait. It'll be worth it. I'll go on happily shooting. The GH4 is still my favorite camera out of all that I've owned.
  16. Mirrorless is just a better design for hybrid cameras. The future is mostly in hybrid photography/video work. I could never go back to a camera with an optical view finder. I'm surprised DSLR's have lasted this long quite frankly.
  17. Colors look great, lighting looks great, the food looks great. My only suggestion would be for you to get a slider and use a couple slider shots to add some visual interest.
  18. looks to me like the wide DR setting actually looks good, their grade of the LOG footage was horrible.
  19. I would spend on the lower end of your budget on the camera body, and use the rest for a few key professional quality lenses that cover the focal length's you need and for a wireless audio setup. Pro quality lenses can be found used, and used with adapters if necessary to give you more options. Also, your shooting style is important here as well. Are you doing run and gun style work, a lot of running around getting the shots quickly, or are you planning on doing work that allows you to set up each shot with care? If your style is Run and Gun a camcorder style camera might be best for you or a shoulder rig for your DSLR style camera. Also, if you go with a DSLR Style camera, remember to set aside Money for a Rig/tripod in your budget, etc,.., this will show clients you are a professional. I would also look to the future. for me, 4k and an EVF are just about two of the biggest features a camera must have right now. Like others said, in your price range all the cameras are good. Have fun choosing!
  20. During lunch break I played with the screen grab for a few minutes more just for the heck of it. Along with the Varicam35 LUT I also played with image in Photoshop Camera Raw a bit here. I don't think there are any skin-tone issues to worry about at all once we finally get V-LOG. Image degradation seems nonexistent as well, and this is a screen grab of a compressed youtube video. I think we are in for a treat when we get the real deal.
  21. Here is the image using Panasonic's own Varicam35 VLOG to V709 LUT. Didn't touch the image at all other than apply the LUT. I'm really liking this!!!!!
  22. v-log shot. I know it's just a jpg but I can't wait much longer to play around. haha
  23. That is great news! Alexa's color, is generally my favorite. Approximate that and we are in for a treat.
  24. That Camera Store TV shoot looked very good to me. Punchy, good skin tones, nice DR. I can't wait to get hold of v-log myself. That said, I'll happily wait a bit longer, if it means they are optimizing to it's fullest potential.
