I'm hoping that it's possible for Tiffen to make a variable IRND filter. I own the variable ND and it's nice, although you see color shifts toward the higher end.

Here is my comparison test of "image detail quality" on the 5D Mk III with and without ML then against the GH3:
Please notice that this was a fast test and if you find something wrong or unfair do let me know to fix it asap. :)
What are those vertical lines in the sky at 0:40, on the hacked version?

Yeah right.... like going around promoting like that costs nothing.
Or do you also think that suppliers and people that showed up for free on shooting days, did not get an agreement beforehand that if the film earn any cash they will be paid?
Anyway, if he will make a million he will be fine, but at few hundred k he is receiving a lot of phone calls from people who were on set and thereabouts.
My "uneducated" guess comes from having been on two gigs like this one.
One, had an "official" 200k shooting budget and the blessing of Martin Scorsese on the opening score (not one of his pennies though), it made well at festivals, sold few DVD, plenty of nice people were talking on to each other ears about it, all that kind of BS and cashed a little over a million, yet it was barely enough.
take care every one.
I'm sure it was a great movie...

He did a good job, a part for releasing the typical starving artist story which will keep viewers away from the theater.
yet with 300k you are still under water big time. of those 300k very little can go back to cover productions costs.
there are so many hidden costs that are never mentioned and this kind of articles and generally are worth more than the "official" cash used to put the gig together.
Where'd you find the production cost? -
About $75 million.
Probably $75,000.
Primers budget was $7,000. -
Although it looks well filmed and acted, i do not get all the excitement.
300k after 4 weeks in the US means nobody is giving a damn about this film.
there is nothing better than releasing a depressing movie to stay unsuccessful.
sorry guys time to wake up!
No studio. He released it on his own. Traveled to different cities presenting and doing Q&As. I'd say that is pretty successful.- Chrad, pulp_writer, Sean Cunningham and 2 others

I remember seeing his previous film Primer, and the first 15 minutes were very distracting because of how bad it looked. Shots within the same scene were different color temperatures, and out of focus. However, as the story moved forward I didn't notice it anymore, and loved the movie. Glad to see he's stepped up his game in the look of this film.

Ugh I thought it was the m43 version when I read your headline.

Rent both of them and try them out first. If you're in the US check out lensrentals.com

My advice to the OP is to be careful about Blackmagic cameras. Barely anyone has the original camera, announced last April for a release in July (2012). They were struck by a huge production delay. Now, before they've even come close to clearing out the back orders, they've announced two new cameras, again for a July release. Blackmagic's word about release dates is worth next to nothing.
The other issue is that when they do ship, the Blackmagic cameras are going to be very expensive to maintain. They RAW and even Prores file sizes have big storage and processor requirements relative to any other camera you may be considering.
Personally I'm content with the Panasonic's for the time being, and I'll move over to Blackmagic when I can afford to build a new system and storage prices have come down. I don't need the absolute bleeding edge - BMD's stuff will represent great quality that likely won't be matched in the consumer/prosumer area for years to come.
There's always value in being thrifty.
BMCC is in stock at Adorama... -
Nice skin tones.

Given the price of the Nikon 5200, I think the GH3 is not worth it
Maybe if you have Nikon glass. For people with m43, canon glass it makes way more sense to get the GH3.

This is one of the best floating around. For a big list of other ones (some good, some not so good) check out this thread:

Great monitor. OLED is sweet, but it doesnt really make sense to spend the extra money unless OLED is used down the entire workflow and delivery.

Good form factor and controls by the looks of it, though my opinions are a little tainted by the experiences listed below:
I had the H4n and DR100. The H4n did have better preamps and mics but was noisier. Plus the DR100 is really easy to use and has more sensible physical buttons, and remote control. The H4n was needlessly complex. I still have the DR100... just.
But it didn't sound as nice to me. Harsher top end, the kind of sibilant congestion associated with less-than-ideal AD conversion. Less 3D and more brittle. The built-in mics lose hands down as well. But it's just more practical so it was kept.
As long as this adresses a lot of the previous issues it could be a good bet, depending on price.
You can stretch the 24 bit files EQ a long way in post. I'm constantly shocked at the miracles performed in Adobe Audition.

Looks like the m43 version wont be around anytime soon.
http://www.metabones.com/speed-booster-questions
We apologize but the m4/3 schedule is slipping. Manual focus lenses such as Nikon, Leica R, Contax C/Y, Contarex, ALPA and Rollei will be supported in the second half of 2013.
Canon EF lens (but not EF-S) support is planned in the future, but we do not have an estimated date yet.
The m4/3 version also reduces focal length by a 0.71x factor. So, the combined focal length multiplier of a m4/3 camera and Speed Booster is 1.4x. (2x from camera x 0.71x from Speed Booster.) The optics are optimized for the smaller sensor size.

You bring up a good point about ergonomics. GH3 is the winner in image quality, but it's lacking in the ergonomics/hardware dept. I'm hoping Panasonic creates a GH camera with a big 5D type body and a better LCD screen.

Hey guys,
i usually love working with premiere. i think this program really evolved over the past years and is pretty brilliant in the latest version. however on my new hackintosh i run into serious performance problems when looking through footage. the footage of my GH2 (wrapped to a .mov container) stutters so badly in my preview window that its impossible to work with.
i have a plenty fast i7-3770k, geforce 650 ti and 8GBs of ram, but the video playback still stutters. it even stutters in my timeline when the clips are marked yellow, which usually means that premiere is able to play it somewhat smoothly. i even enabled mercury GPU acceleration for my graphics card, but that didnt help a bit.
it also very often shows "media pending" for a second or two, which is weird since i loaded the entire footage on my SSD with 500MB/s read speeds.
i installed fcpx just for kicks and everything is perfectly smooth.
i never had this trouble with premiere on windows on my older machine. is somebody experiencing similar problems or can maybe help with mine?
thanks a ton
Are you dropping your footage into a new sequence, or creating a sequence prior to dropping in your footage?

Motion control rigs exist already for bigger budget projects. Not sure if this is really a game changer for everyone. Maybe for indie filmmakers. -
I mean clown in a good way. I may think his style is crazy, but he certainly has skill.
Ahh okay, I see.

Laforet is a clown. I bet he discovered what a Macro lens is for the fist time!
But i bet it is the stabilizer. The man loves his helicopters.
He is not a clown. He is extremely nice, and takes time to answer almost any question via twitter or email. Very knowledgeable.

I didn't know the Canon 5D MKII was one of the biggest game changers in the last five years. Hmm. Interesting.
Really? It is what ignited the DSLR video frenzy.

I know that he works closely with Canon, and Kessler. Considering that it's not a camera, I'm guessing Kessler.
BIG NEWS - Hands on with CONTINUOUS raw recording on Canon 5D Mark III
