This looks really awesome, minus the AMD part. I can't live without Premiere, and AE! I'll bet we see 4K panels from them in the next year as well.
-
Something I was thinking about though, how can they record uncompressed raw into the SD card on the Pocket Camera? Isn't that impossible at the moment on the 5D3? Is the problem in the 5D3 the SD card controller speed or is it the SD cards' speed in general?
They never said anything about uncompressed raw. I've only heard compressed raw somewhere down the line.

Sounds like a classic case of buyers remorse. I think you'll be fine.
-
I'd actually like to see a review of the 4K version. The pocket seems pretty straight forward being the same sensor as the bmcc.
-
I wonder what retail price is going to be on that 4K monitor.

If you're shooting the wedding by yourself I would recommend using a lens with Image Stabilization. Monopods, and a shoulder rig would work, but you'll be much more mobile using the 5D handheld. Nothing worse than seeing a wedding video that is shaky as hell.

No - I am the Guy who makes $100,000-150,000 from paid video productions.;-))
So why do you need RAW?
What exactly do you produce to make living apart from weekly tests(for which we are all grateful ;-)?
Is there any feature film i missed from you. What it it you actually hope to achieve with raw?
'will you have your name in PROMETHEUS 2 trailer"
RAW is very handy for High End and i really mean HIGH END.
Unless it is the Market YOU yes YOU are involved in,then i understand it- but if you are in High End, then the $$$$ you get paid on weekly basis should be enough to buy 10 Epics ;-)))
...but if it is a hobby, then go ahead and get .............................
So the moral of the story is: "Even though it's free, don't do it. There's no chance you'll ever use it."

Somebody has to explain to me WHY anyone would care what Laforet thinks. WHY? He was at the right place at the right time five years ago and made a couple of low light tests, which he called "films" (hello a "film" has to have a story, a plot), Canon rewarded him by letting himd direct one of the C300 promotion films and.... and that's it. All he's done since then is to heavily promote the most expensive equipment and vendors
Not true. He directs commercials for huge brands. You've probably seen a couple and didnt know it. -
I'm still hopeful for that 4KRaw 10Bit in a smaller box but NOT a DSLR. Hell may freeze over before I get that wish fullfilled.
Hopefully hell wont freeze over before July. -
Got some nice shots today with the new build.

Looks awesome.

Very cool. I wish I had Leica R lenses though. Hoping for the EF version sometime this year.

I like grain as well. It adds a nice texture to the sometimes super sharp digital images. Especially if you run a denoiser.

Great. I would love to see your "work" when they can't even ship the camera to you within 6 months. I'm sure you'd get loads of "work" done with that imaginary BMC of yours.
Why are you so mad, man? I live in the U.S. They're available everywhere.

Body of work from the 5 people who actually received their camera they ordered over a year ago? The fact that this hack by ML even comes close to the quality of the BMC is astounding. See that for what it is and let your constant comparisons proving the BMC is slightly better go, please. It's obnoxious to say the least. Yes there's slightly more resolution and more convenience in recording to SSD's but the BMC was designed to record raw from the beginning. Let the hack develop and stop talking about how the BMC is slightly better in whatever regard you may think. No one is denying this and no one really cares. ML has gotten 14 bit raw out of a camera that was at the bottom of their totem pole image quality-wise for video. With this hack the 5D3 is now near the top of that totem pole and it has come at absolutely zero cost, which makes it even more ridiculous.
I shoot photos and video with my 5D3 mainly. I also use two 60D's and a 5D2 during my weddings.
I care, a little bit. I'd probably buy a bmcc over 5D right now for work. -
Fully agreed.
As I said on a different post: Expect RAW to be an industry standard by this time next year.
Not sure what you mean by this. It already is an industry standard for semi to big budget. As far as pro-sumer/hobbyist I think the goal will be to have options and efficiency. No way that compressed video is going away for that market anytime soon.

40sec isn't enough time to slate in some cases.
Good point. Slate is going to be a necessity for this workflow in most cases
-
Cost wise, it's actually less expensive than buying the CS suites, if you are one to update regularly.

If it's all glitches from dev code, that will be fixed soon, then I'm excited about it. I want to be able to use it professionally.

I've corrected your post :)

The horizontal bars at 0:13 are on the 5D half of the screen. Is it Vimeo/YouTube causing this problem, or when you compress to h.264? Either way Vimeo and YouTube are what people are used to watching videos online, so it would be a major problem to always have this issue.

Good start! Now give us 4K RAW 120fps video please!!!
Then after we get that, give us 6k 300 fps plzzz. -
Its a price point situation. Big time film makers are interested in it, and the budget guys are hyped over 5D Raw and BMPC.Which craze about the MoVi? There was anticipation when we didn't know what it was. Laforet announced it. Most people said 'Meh'. I haven't heard anyone about it since.
Funny though. Short after this 'next big thing' from Laforet, there have been a few REALLY big next things! Pocket Cinema Camera, BMPCC 4K, Canon dslr's shooting RAW... -
The problem with the Panasonics is SD media. The ML hack needs the throughput that fast CF media allows.
ML says theyre working on t3i, which only has SD media.

The flickering and artifacts present in these RAW videos are annoying. I mean the whole concept is cool, and I'm sure they'll get it right soon, but it's not feasable for anything serious right now.
Apple reveal new 4K equipped Mac Pro suitable for uncompressed raw editing. Not just pro but genius!
