  1. Lmao. I wonder what the might of their legal team thinks of this one. "Alright assholes. We'll leave your 1DX alone."
  2. Shot on the C100 with a Ninja 2. Prores HQ with a Canon 100mm f2.8 and a Rokinon 35mm T1.5 on C-Log. Graded with Color Finesse and Filmconvert. RGrain ultrafine:) Just trying to see how filmic i can get this bastard: https://vimeo.com/65086996
  3. I really don't understand why they play it so safe. They put a smart car governor on a formula 1 motor in almost every camera. I've got the same sensor, and the same processor the C500 has, in my C100....which means somewhere in there, is a little bastard algorithm that won't let me shoot raw. Lol
  4. Amen. They are still making cameras with a 720p option.. Lol. When Best Buy throws up a 4k display in the store, i imagine it will be received like a veil has been lifted and people will spontaneously crap their pants when they see it. I personally haven't so I can't knock it. I wonder if it will be the same day-night experience 480p - 1080p was.
  5. Not understanding much on the grounds of what would technically allow the ML team to alpha 24p DNG's on the 5D's, hardware wise I'm assuming it's the buffer dumping quick enough. It just sounds like with all the processing involved in compressing the footage in real time, the weak link on these Canons are the buffers. If the 1DC is a 1DX pretty much, it pushes out 4k at ridiculous file sizes at 24p. Granted that's 2 Digic 5's... If it's the same buffer in the Mark 3, (going by Canon's re-use of components..) - maybe there's hope? It sucks Alex is pessimistic right now.
  6. People like Canon. Even the haters. Behind every negative remark regarding Canon, is a little love for them. The cameras are rugged and nice as hell. I'd love to have a 1DC because I could take it anywhere for crying out loud. But damn it's $12,000 and it bands for fux sake. Why? Personally, that is my only issue with Canon. You can't pull down a highlight until $25,000. (Sans external $$$$$$.)
  7. I think the hyperdeck doesn't read the pulldown like the ninja
  8. After having a C100 with a Ninja 2 for about a month now, I was pretty pissed Post-NAB.  It's a hard camera to stay faithful to when something better seems to be coming along nearly every week.  (come on... raw 2k on a 5D2?...lmfao.)    Alas, it is what it is.    I will say that if I had to go by what Vimeo and Youtube were exhibiting from a C100, I'd be pretty dissapointed.  With a Ninja 2 though and C-Log, it can get pretty damned cinematic I'm happy to say.  ($7500 later.)    Andrew!   Aside from A/B'ing a C100 with a 1DC on this shoot, it'd be cool to get your thoughts on the C100?  Ergonomically I love mine, and with a Ninja 2 the image is very nice and can be pushed rather far...  The grain is very filmlike as well.  (to my eyes.)    At (currently) $5500, it's "still" ridiculously high-priced, but it's available.  One of the reasons I pulled the trigger on it considering with a Ninja 2, the image was supposedly better than the C300.
  9. Well see here's the thing. I'm aware that the fs700 would get a 4k upgrade. The issue isn't with the 4k Screenspro. Most of the free world is still operating at 1080p... My problem, is watching the price drop a thousand dollars 6 days after i purchase a $7500 system, and watch the rest of the industry pummel its ass for less than that in the same week. All the while being tossed a focus upgrade for the fall... Forgive me if I don't feel like cowboying up fella.
  10. As a guy who just spent $7500 on a C100 with a Ninja 2, i'm sorry but this is bullsh-t.. I actually prefer Canon's image to Sony's, but where is Canon in all of this? Clean hdmi for the 5D3? That's throwing us all a bone. I almost bought the FS700. Sony gets a 4k raw upgrade from hell, I get a magnifying upgrade for my $6500 (now $5500) camera in October. To top it off, it is non-returnable. Such Bullsh-t. This is the biggest self kick in the ass i've ever experienced because all 3 C cams have the same sensor and the same processor. (100,300,500).. And they COULD EASILY upgrade them.. God I'm pissed. Rant over
  11. Lol!! All Canon have to do is un-cripple everything in the lineup with a firmware update and they should be fine. Ha!! Clean out 5D3. I hear party poppers.
  12. smh. I've offended someone. $15,000 < $995. I'm sure it will change the world man.
  13. Raw for under $1,000. This is actually what you call a "game changer" in the real world Laforet. Lmfao
  14. Sans probably frame rates, this just out gunned the Scarlet, Sony "F's", Red Ones, and everything Canon makes..Actually the Alexa too. Internal Raw on SSD's on S35 with a Global shutter. $4,000. Ftw. Granted, i will have been dead for 60 years by the time it arrives. Lol
  15. I can't hate on the price because there isn't enough hands on the production to supply the demand for something like that. No denying it's a really cool addition to the arsenal! Just sucks that I can't afford it and that's about it. This is something I would want to "own" also.. You can run with a low to the ground shot. Something I can't do with a Merlin.. It doesn't have the footprint of a big ass Pilot system. Just seems like getting steady footage in confined spaces like a car, or anything for that matter is what's so cool about it. It will get cheaper. And then you'll have a raw cinema camera for $3000, on a small handheld rig that cuts the hassle of dollies, tracks, cranes, etc. The market is heading for professional level filmmaking "looks"... in half the work. Some will call that catering to laziness, others will praise the ability to just grab this thing and get the damn shot! Lol.
  16. Alright. So this is the year I'm making the move from cat videos to short films, lol.. I put together a small budget for a camera system I could make some money with on the side as well.. The initial buy was to be a BMC.. I was told not to get my hopes up on a summer arrival and Ebay had a couple for $5,000, from sellers with bad reps or none at all. (Red One horror stories turned me off too.) So I splurged for a C100 with a Ninja 2. I don't plan to do much greenscreen work with it, and that's where i hear the benefit of 4:2:2 really comes into play. Most of the talk around the validity of the Ninja 2 as being a neccessity for $1200 with the C100 says you don't see a day and night difference between the internal recordings vs the Ninja 2's enough to justify that expense.. Most of what I've seen online also has to be blown up to "pixel peeper" perspective and pushed further than I would ever grade anything to notice as well. But hey, i'm looking at web converted footage also. My question is really more, what am i looking for between the 2? I've never really messed with anything shot natively at 4:2:2 coming from a GH2 and 5D's... So I'm curious from guys with experience. Since on paper, a Ninja 2 gives the C100 a better codec than a C300 with the same sensor. I'd have like, a C350. Lol.. But if it isn't really a huge deal, then I could sure use that $1200 for a nice lens or 2!! Thanks guys!!
  17. Hi!   I have a 5d3 and am new to anamorphic shooting.   Getting ahold of an Isco 54 will be difficult, and probably out of my budget, lol.. So I've been looking at the Vid-Atlantic Isco's they sell for $849 with the clamp kits.. The videos they have of it in use with the Mark 2 look kind of like they were shot in the 70's though, so I was curious if anyone had some experience with the Vid-Atlantic adapters and could vouch for them, or if someone had a better solution?   I'm trying to stay under a thousand dollars..     I thoI thought this one looked great with the Kowa 16D, but I've heard bad opinions also..   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DRD16HYDL0   (Favorite shot @ 00:37)   Also this one:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SldXYArHbhk   Both shot on a Kowa 16D.
  18. It'll be interesting. Most people had high hopes for Canon right up until about November 3, 2011.. Lol. Now we're all just cynical when we hear the name. In terms of competition, damn near everything they do has a corresponding Nikon release in the same category. Most tests regarding clean out on the Nikons however show almost no difference between the internal codec and the clean out.. - So i almost don't wanna hold my breath. They seem to be just letting us get by with the bare minimum until it has 5 digits in the price tag. On a positive note, I hope you're right:) On a realistic note, I'm hearing "alright fine you whiney asses, here, clean out. Sheesh."
  19. Well.. This thread took a 180. Lol.. Probably one of the funniest scenes ever. "- & he's gonna come out here with that ball bat a' his.. & he's gonna beat-your-ass ta death with it." As a kid who's favorite movie of all time at 7 years old was Die Hard, i had no desire to go out into the world guns blazin'. I can't pin point when things got to the point they are now, but i don't remember mass shootings at the level they've reached these days. Or violence that just astounds your ass.. I'm sure there was violence, but the drugs had to be worse in the 60's. they were isolated it seems to serial killers. I see a lot of kids with too much time on their hands. They stay in the house, and don't take care of themselves.. Don't have to work No parents around, because it cost so much just to live, both parents have to work just to get by. There's no seed planted to take responsibility for themselves and the doctors are throwing depression pills out like candy to bypass it. Cinema becomes a catalyst for stuff like this when it becomes a by-product of far too much easy way out.
  20. An Alexa comparison would definitely be cool. Getting ahold of a Kineraw right now would probably be a miracle, but that'd be a good comparison one day also. I think they all have their own character. Seems most favor the Alexa.
  21. I really want to like this camera... But my 6D is 8 bit. I've had to learn how to cheat a digital negative with Neat video and grain to compensate to the best of my ability the shortcomings of banding.. For $12k, it seems pretty lame that it's putting 255 values across 4000 lines of resolution.. I dunno... I assume there is a subliminal threshold with consumers, where it becomes hard to justify a shortcoming like that after a certain price point.. - or anything requiring the same old work arounds.
  22. " that's the temporal, visual equivalent to having a girlfriend that always farts during sex. " ....Probably the best analogy....there ever was. Well played.
  23. I think we're all pissed because we "do" like Canon.. it's like a shitty relationship. Lol. Competition is showing us that the possibility to attain more for less or equivalent $$ doesn't help matters either. Out of all the 8 bit dslr's out there, I think Canon nailed it with the 5D2 and still do image wise. That's personal taste though. They are cashing the hell in on them still as well. Some sites have 5D2's for the same price and some more than a 6D right now.
  24. So this is a tad off topic.. Anybody ever think the 5D2 had a better look to the image than the new lineup? Sans the moire and whatnot, just seems like it had something to its color this new lineup doesn't. Maybe somebody can explain it to me because I haven't been impressed by much of anything i've seen from the replacements.
