  1. We should send them all an email. "Dear fanboy." Lol... I saw an interview with Peter Berg on Lone Survivor. Said they wanted the Alexa, but for BUDGETARY reasons, opted for the Epic. Fincher will almost certainly use the Red Dragon next, and that shit looks amazing. Seems like while everyone else has a hard on for resolution and low light, Arri created a look that was predominately "smooth" in the Alexa, and time in, time out - it wins the favor consistently.
  2. +1 Andrew. It's funny, the article made a dramatic shift to what should really matter most, but the phase detect issue is something they would actually prioritize. In Olympus's case, they've solved one of the biggest problems indie run and gunners have to deal with and that's a smooth shot. The last thing that should be a problem is frame rates!? Lol. I guess most people just assume if a DSLR shoots video these days, it has a 24/25p option. That's pretty much standard now.
  3. Some B-roll footage taken primarily with the Sigma 18-35 1.8, and some shots with the Canon 100mm 2.8 L macro as well.
  4. I love my Bmcc. This last month I've worked it like a Hebrew in freezing cold weather and it delivers a beautiful image. It's aesthetically dirtier than I've gotten used to with other cameras. My C100 was sterile as a cotton ball in low light and I DO miss that. I wish the Bmcc had cleaner lowlight and less noise in the shadows. Other than that though, it's pretty much a $1000 2.5k badass with a copy of Resolve. I'm curious what BMD can or will add to the firmware updates later down the line & what it's capable of
  5. They need a codec. Something like Prores, or anything not 8-bit... Lol. Maybe they'll hop on H.265, or since the C100 uses Avchd, they'll use Avc Ultra? Who knows.
  6. Yep. Bummer. I never caught a bunk update from that page before on my feed. Regardless, no footage is usually a red flag so i'm an idiot:)
  7. The forum is probably exploding with inquiries on the 4k. They posted it on their Blackmagic Cinema Camera Facebook feed. I would get on there and scroll down
  8. Did no one else see this? Lol.. I saw the official BMD update in my feed yesterday and I figured it would be all over the place by now. Anyone have any details on any additions, tweaks, etc.?
  9. Yeah i actually tried this when I got home, all excited... fail. I figured this post just got lost in the mix so I didn't follow up, lol.
  10. I just started using Capture One. It is most definitely tha shit.
  11. There are moire and aliasing artifacts popping up everywhere with the raw update. It looks to have lifted the veil on them.
  12. It's been 24 hours. Bout to head over to Vimeo and peep these cat vids. ...an entire feed of raw/pro res pocket comparison masterpieces... ................I know I'm right too.. & I haven't even been there yet. EDIT: I was right.
  13. I wonder if Atomos has an upgrade path with the blade or a 4k external recorder in the works. It's slim pickins otherwise unless you're ready to fork over more than the camera for that luxury. Atomos usually offers good solutions for a lot cheaper. Just sayin.. 4k internally at 10-bit 4:2:2 would probably fill a CF card up so fast it'd be hard to justify the cost. So the idea of having to use an external recorder sounds more realistic at those specs.
  14. No prob:). Anybody will bring up Act of Valor for being a big Hollywood flick, but they used Modded Panavision lenses we'll never afford with top notch post production.. Kind of irrelevant to the average shooter, lol.. But check out videos like "Postcard from Bali" on Vimeo. That was shot 90% with the old Canon 50mm 1.4, and it is absolutely beautiful despite the limitations. It has a rich character to it that did "not" carry over to the Mark 3 that's for sure. Of course raw is a different subject... But if I were in a situation where I didn't want to shoot raw because I wanted to preserve space, I'd still prefer the Mark 2's internal image with a VAF filter over the Mark 3's. This is all of course, personal preference:).
  15. This is a good point and makes me wonder the details of the AVC Ultra codec they're talking about using. The selling point of H.265 is a sh-t load more quality at a more efficient bitrate, so we're onto the next level looks like. Edit: Can't rule out an SDI option as well. Even though there aren't many 4k external recorders, 4k 10 bit 4:2:2 is less skeptical at that point. That will set you back a lot more than a Ninja though, lol.
  16. It's the oldest, but I've had both. I'd take the Mark 2 over the 6D any day. I still love the image it puts out for video straight out of the box, and yes it does do Raw with ML. It uses CF cards also so the resolution should be higher. Both have a VAF mosaic anti aliasing filter available.
  17. Everybody's routing for Canon, but they're like that dad that missed all your games. Yeah. He shows up late with a happy meal and a lipstick "C" on his collar. You just tell him it's okay, mommie's new friend Mr. Lantern was there. That's a f--kin analogy. Win.
  18. I guess I just assumed this was a dummy m43 mount, lol.. But most active M43 glass like Olympus, and Panny's are really clinical anyway aren't they? That's personal opinion of course, and sucks if you have native 43 glass you like, because that should be a relatively easy update to turn give a feature an on/off option.. Most people are grabbing adapters and old ass lenses with speed boosters, etc. so I can't see BMD jumping on it. That could just be my cynical attitude I've developed from watching the pocket get all the lovin, and my 2.5k still has a black dot in the sun.
  19. I don't know if anyone has tried this, but this was how i could get slow motion from my C100. I (for whatever reason), just found out that the sdi output on the bmcc 2.5 sends a 59.94i interlaced signal when you shoot 29.97, or 30fps internally. I won't be around my cam for a bit to test this, but I could select 59.94i on my Ninja 2 when I had my C100 and split the fields in post with a program like JES deinterlacer. Crazy pain in the ass of steps, but it worked and I was able to pull smooth 60p overcrank with it with better resolution than the C300's 720p over crank. If it works with the BMCC, then I'm glad i kept my Ninja! Anybody try this? EDIT: You'd need an SDI to HDMI converter for the Ninja 2. Just to clear that one up before someone ask. Something like the Samurai or the Samurai Blade wouldn't need one however.
  20. I'm using this lut right now with Filmconvert in Resolve on bmcc raw footage and it's awesome. I've been a CaptainHook whore for quite a while, which is still a great lut, but so far this combo has more of a nod to Dynamic Range. Great job
