I am run and gun; sticking with the MFT Sigma 16mm F1.4 and 30mm F1.4.  I don't need better focusing. Will probably just keep the Sigma 60mm f2.8 with me too for occasional use, or it's forthcoming successor. I think there is some in-camera correction though with these lenses, so maybe the 16mm will just have to be tested before settling on it for sure.

"sub optima" IS the reason I will use them. ? I don't want sharp as hell lenses like I said. And clumsy AF, hell the 4K BMPCC doesn't even Have AF in a sense. I am glad they don't resolve 4K LoL. I really doubt I will ever output in 4K. Maybe down sample at times to 1080p but I doubt even that often.
You are stating the complete Opposite of what I want in a lens. If I wanted sharp I would buy a Sony A7r mk III. I think the magic of a BMPCC is that they are not razor sharp. Not like ML 5D mk III. I don't want to really have to knock down sharpness on every shot I take. But sure nice if you want that option thought Like I guess you want. Now if you want a smooth look, which I like, I think those lenses can do that, buttery smooth, I doubt we can get that other than using real film with Cooke lenses, we will never be able to afford. Cut your face, well no either. But I don't like cut your face stuff. Seems you do. I like to get a lot of the look I like in camera, not spending 6 hours on a NLE doing it. So I think cheap lenses on it will do fine for me. Plenty of old Nikon, Canon MF stuff around for peanuts for my needs. Plus I am a cheap slate, eh poor, and don't have all that money to spend on 1000 + dollars lenses, when I can buy what I want on Amazon for 60 bucks each and get my result. But that is the beauty of video, photography, we all get to make it look like we want it to look like if we have the skill.
But yeah if you are going to try to make a living with the BM sure you will Need the lenses you are talking about and more of them. I am just in this as a hobby. At 71 I am too old to worry about deadlines, spending money left and right I don't have, on and on.

You guys are funny as hell.  I doubt ANYBODY has even made anything worth a shit with a 14.-140mm or the kit lens. Oh the vanity to throw tons of peoples stuff under the bus  LoL. I did BIF stuff for years photography wise and video wise, and gee, they seemed to work fairly well doing it. Super duper ideal, no, but crap lenses nah.

Yeah it really is. And this was shot in ProRes... stunning. To be honest, I am a little bummed out by the Pocket II. It seems too mainstream to me. Like it’s neither here nor there. I much rather would have had them build on the original Pocket/Micro but with a 2.5K image. Until we see footage, it’s all conjecture, but I could see myself scooping up another Micro for cheap and be happy with FF Raw from my 5D3 and  S16 ProRes from a BMMCC.
With that being said, BM does have to be commended for the price point/features of the Pocket II.

That's my Niece for you. She laughed and got on with it!
You can install the picture profile with or without ML installed (ML was installed on mine).
Those grades were pretty testing too -- I personally didn't see any noticeable reduction to image quality. Test away, man

She popped right up like a trooper and didn’t miss a beat though... good on her!
So, I assume I have to load the picture profile before I change the firmware to ML, right? I used ML on the EOS-M years ago to test Raw, but wasn’t a fan of it on that camera. The bitrate hike may be perfect though. I think the EOS-M already had a slightly higher bitrate than the other Canon cameras of its time, anyway.
Yeah, I’m really just looking for a little more wiggle room. The grades on your website show you can do a lot with it... more than enough. Cinestyle is a bit much, but I always liked Marvels. Definitely looking forward to testing them yours and Marvels... if my stupid job would slow down for a few minutes.
Was that the C-Mount Tevidon 25mm or the M42 25mm? Either way, wicked look.

Sorry for the late reply. Been out of town! Yeah, laughed my ass off too when she hit the ground :D. Thanks, bud. These little cams have got so much to offer that it's a shame they're discarded like some kind of antique relic from the past. I personally find them more enjoyable and more satisfying to use
Yep, I used Magic Lantern. My personal setting is 1.3x bitrate. I've found this is to be the best balance between image quality/file sizes for my needs. I don't see the point in creating big file sizes for minimal difference in quality (especially if uploading to YT, Vimeo etc).
My profile isn't intended to be compared with Cinestyle or Marvel. For me it was more of a case of trying to create something like a -6 contrast option with a smoother transition between shadows and highlights. Pushing the 8bit codec in these Canons just produces muddy/noises images that I personally think is not very pleasing to look at.
You'll def see the difference between Prolost and my profile. It's def worth checking out if you're looking for a little more wiggle room in your image.

Thanks. I used a Carl Zeiss 25mm prime lens. Ask away, man. I have nothing to hide!

On the lens debate - 'crappy', 'different strokes for different folks', 'opinion vs facts':
There are a lot of optically superb native M43 lenses. For example the Olympus 12mm f2.0 (Zuiko Digital or so). Had better reviews than SLRM 12mm f1.6 (less distortion, sharper at wide open, less lens flare).
But was not a manual lens. And (my opinion) you should prefer a lens with a good and big focus ring. A 12mm was a 35mm equivalent on the old Pocket, the 'reporter wide'. Now a 16mm (Sigma 16mm f1.4) would be a 30mm. 420 €. Easy choice.
I own the 18-35mm Sigma (once for Nikon, now Canon, swore to never sell it again). Had it with the Pocket MB speedbooster then, made it a 30-58 @ f1.0 (!!!). Practically never changed the lens from then on.
Speed booster Viltrox is just 160 €, will make it effectively a 24-47 @ f1.3:
    Easy choice.
Don't need to go wider, but obviously need a longer lens. Adapter without speedbooster? Didn't look into that, but why not?

Opinion on adapted vintage lenses: good, but you need to become an expert. Don't expect good old lenses to be bargains anymore. People became smart.
Opinion on slow lenses: no. Anything below 2.8 should be considered 'crap' for this kind of camera. This is no Sony.

It would be nice to have the option to exclude it, but at the price I don't really care. If the camera were 2,000 with resolve then I might be a little more upset.

I fervently agree. I am as excited as hell for this camera... even though I’ll wait until they’re readily available to buy one.
I was just trying to make a point that it’s possible that this camera’s specs, specifically high ISO, won’t live up to the expectations. These, all BM, cameras have quirks and issues like magenta casts, fixed pattern noise, black hole sun, deadlines not being met... so I hope people are prepared for this instead of jumping on board and expecting something this won’t be and then spreading hatred because their unrealistic expectations weren’t met.
I mean, hell there are already posts questioning and hoping for great AF... I can tell you right now... it won’t be good.

I think it looks kinda rad. Don’t know how I feel about external Raw only... but the price will dictate my feelings on that one. Anything over $1500 and I’ll pass for now. At a grand, I’m in.

Nice shots you did mercer, especially kaylee - I really like the Ansel Adams feel to it.
Here are my shots with b/w in it w/ BMPCC - Sigma 19mm and Cosmicar 25mm lenses.  I've always wanted to do monochrome stuff.  They're so nostalgic.

    YES!!! what a good topic
i LOVE b&w photography, thats how i started, shooting 35mm black and white film  ive made many b&w darkrooms in closets and bathrooms lol
frankly, dealing with color is WAY harder than shooting b&w (so many variables!) – b&w should be really freeing~! i think most ppl will find a HUGE amount of room to play in post, since you can fuck with hues and exposure like crazy to get a cool b&w image. although id love a dedicated b&w camera, having the color data to play with in post can be quite interesting
i would love to make a b&w feature! anyway heres a few shots i took the other day that i ~chose~ to treat as b&w bc the color was so meh... much better!
*i would recommend listening to the song low desert by r.e.m. while viewing these pics

As anybody who reads my comments already know, I bought a 5D3 last Spring and instantly fell in love with the images I was getting. After almost two years of searching for the right camera for the stuff I was looking to shoot, I found it in the 5D3.
    But...
I am the first person to admit that the post process of ML Raw can be a little tedious and requires a massive amount of storage. Since I am a hobbyist with narrative dreams, I’ve been searching for a second camera to shoot fun little vignettes in between shooting days with my 5D3. Shooting is a form of meditation for me and instantly calms me.
After a couple of cameras, I ended buying an RX10ii on the cheap. Now I had the camera last year but struggled with getting good color from it. This time around, I’ve decided to mostly shoot in sLog2 and Cine2 with monochrome and I am pleasantly surprised by how good the images turned out on my first outing with it.
I’ve always loved B&W photos and movies, but I’ve never really shot much with it, so I look forward to learning and experimenting more with it.
Now, I have been posting around here for a few years and color science, correction and grading are all popular discussions but there is rarely mention of B&W.
Does anyone shoot in B&W anymore? Does anyone have any video or screengrabs that were captured in B&W or turned to B&W in post that they’d like to share? Or even strong opinions for or against it?
I’ll start off with a few screengrabs. The first two were shot in sLog2...

And this one was shot in Cine2...

I've always enjoyed Matt's work and he's always come across as a genuine guy who loves what he does. I find it hard to think of another person who's shared so much usable information  about cameras, lighting and techniques with downloadable files for FREE. He doesn't need to do that. It sounds like a genuine mistake on his behalf. It's just a shame that there are so many people/creatives out there who are ready to be Judge & Executioner at a drop of a hat. Maybe they should concentrate on working on their own issues rather than projecting it onto someone like Matt. - B.
