With all version 1.0 products in the history of time, they by their very nature have flaws. It is is up to us to find them and I feel Philip did a good job of finding the ones this has. All good feedback for Blackmagic to act on when it comes to camera 2.0. Already they have acted with the mount issue. The only thing I would have liked to have seen Philip cover is raw and how it grades. I am sure there is more dynamic range in the raw than in ProRes and I'd have shot it raw and transcoded to 2.5K ProRes to avoid the pink and give my eyes a feast on my Dell U2711. Apart from that it was a nice looking piece, sensitively shot.

Box is really nice. When I get mine delivered like Michael Lee above, I am sure you will enjoy the coverage Jeff.

Simco123, I don't think the problem is EF mount Blackmagic cameras sitting on the shelf. The problem is how to make enough of them! Also there's a lot of people with Canon glass who will still be better off with the EF mount. You can't use Canon glass on the MTF version as there's no way to control the aperture. Unless you count a third party adapter. Birger? Good luck.

The parts are coming in slower than expected. To ship a grand total of 8 cameras to the USA after over a month of production at the factory has me a little worried at how slow! Yes I agree that part of the reason for the mount change is to shift some pre-orders and expectations to 2013. Notice that 31st of December is mentioned as the earliest possible shipping date - so essentially it is a 2013 camera now for the MTF version, and I'm expecting demand to outstrip supply of the EF version until the end of 2012. They are like gold dust!

B&W filmmaking isn't a niche!

Is it still 'a marketing concept' Jeff or did I miss something? When I get mine and you are still shooting your upscaled 720p H.264 mush at 8bit do feel free to join the 6 month long waiting list. :)

Moire great news from Nikon's marketing department :)

I don't think still quality will be lousy. It wasn't that bad on the GH2 just not quite up there with the APS-C competition (7D, NEX 5N, etc.). The E-M5 proves you can have good stills quality on a Micro Four Thirds camera. Panasonic just need to sort the sensor and if what I hear is correct they have most certainly done that ;)

Canon C300 vs Blackmagic Cinema Camera - chart test

Maybe some people have become so used to the cleaner look that now someone tries a gritty one, they write it off as a mistake or incompetence? I honestly can't judge this fully until I've seen the movie! -
Nice comment on Facebook... Somebody said the Blackmagic sucks because of the sensor size. This guy replied well...Says it all doesn't it!? "[background=rgb(237, 239, 244)]Yeah having real 1080p with 13 stops of dynamic range in 12bit 4:2:2 RAW or 10bit 4:2:2 ProRes sucks so bad when you can shoot pristine real 720p soft macroblocked unfocusable 8bit 4:2:0 compressed h264 on a 5D MarkIII for just $500 more!"[/background]

Indeed you can get a c-mount 12mm F1.3 that covers the sensor for $100. Search for Computar 12mm F1.3. SLR Magic 12mm F1.6 an even better choice though.

Canon C300 vs Blackmagic Cinema Camera - chart test

Haven't seen the Expendables 2 and not much interest in seeing it, but I have heard this a lot. Was the reduction in quality on purpose for a rough & ready feel? If so then it isn't wrong. There's no such thing as wrong and right when it comes to art. Although calling the Expendables 2 that is stretching it a bit. -
Not sharper so much as more detail and less noise. I can see why they did it. Smart move, and I love B&W.

This covers 23% more than Super 16, so it does cover the larger sensor in the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. Maybe not optimal in the corners though, like you'd expect for an expensive ultra prime on Super 16mm.

Focus assist - it has peaking and a punch in zoom doesn't it?
-
They're normal, compared to a DSLR or GH2 pretty much the same. Don't fear rolling shutter too much.
-
You can't initially. SLR Magic 12mm F1.6 will be fine.
-
There's a pre-order re-allocation program. However you'd be well advised to keep hold of the EF until the MTF ships, and sell it in my view. You might even make 150% of your money back since demand far outstrips supply.

"There's no video village on our films" - Wally Pfister (Dark Knight Rises) Should you ever miss someone, turn those feelings into a movie. Why does that have to be complicated? This is what I was doing when I shot the above piece on the good old GH1 a while back. For me filmmaking isn't any more difficult than feeling. It is just another language. http://www.eoshd.com/content/8906/top-directors-and-cinematographers-debunk-the-myth-that-filmmaking-has-to-be-difficult

Best of luck Gary. I too planned ahead and took into account a bit of inevitable slippage but it is getting silly now.
