1. tjbates05 - Yes OLED is the future of monitoring. Far superior to IPS LCD. Much more like CRT and plasma in terms of the accuracy of colour and contrast. AZVideo - my first impressions of the NEX 7 summed up what you get over the NEX 5N for the extra dosh. Check it out, I've added a link at the bottom of the review. HDMI is not clean you always have a black bar at the side with info in it. Patrick - yes tried the Iscorama 36 with wider lenses and it goes to 35mm on the GH2. Not shot with it at 35mm on the NEX 7 yet though. cls105 - there is no Ex Tele crop mode on the NEX unfortunately.
 2.
http://www.vimeo.com/36845339 Minimum viewing recommendations: 40″ TV. Download the MP4 file. The NEX 7 is a beautifully designed high end mirrorless camera with probably the most advanced CMOS sensor Sony have ever produced. As a stills camera it is superb (if you don’t mind adapting glass and manually focussing – because the current E-mount lens range is somewhat limited). But does it topple the Panasonic GH2 and Canon 5D Mark II for video? Read full article
3. NEX 7 review coming very soon, it is taking a bit longer to cover absolutely everything on this one. But will be worth the wait. Also I am working on the 5D Mark II anti-moire filter review as well as Samyang 24mm F1.4 so busy time here at EOSHD HQ behind the scenes!!
 4. Certainly interesting. I will be testing this. I love the latest update for Unified on the 5D Mark II. Working very nicely now.
 5.
A rumour surfaced today (which was given the 2nd highest rating of plausibility by Sony Alpha Rumors) that Sony have a new NEX video product to come before NAB. Sony have confirmed they are strengthening the NEX range more than intended this year on the back of very strong sales. So as well as new lenses on the roadmap will we see a new video camera? 6. Nice idea, I like Joseph's music - used it before on one of my videos in Berlin https://vimeo.com/22806106 Has he got a new album out?
 7. Yes that adapter (which I co-designed) is necessary for the anamorphic LOMOs to focus. However It took me over a year to get a usable LOMO that would do so! It is a hard challenge and good ones are very rare. Unless you have a lot of patience and find a good deal, go for an Iscorama instead. They are just... more practical. One thing is for sure - the flare is better on the LOMOs - unbeatable in fact.
 8. 1080i from 30p sensor output at 20Mbit  ??? I won't be buying one because of that alone. Also the sensor is not that much better than the one in the GH2 or so I have heard. All this is a shame because the design is lovely, but does it offer anything new apart from the great stabilisation and an OLED screen? No I don't think so. And the EVF in the NEX 7 is far better not to mention a better sensor.
 9. It needs to be closer to the sensor by less than 1mm. Unfortunately it appears your adapter is slightly off. Is it a Chinese one? It could also be that the old lens has focus issues - more likely.
 10.
The film outdoes anything I've seen from a GH2 in my opinion. But then thats my opinion. To me the film looked wholesome full and solid and that's at 24mbs. I'm hoping the HDMI might offer uncompressed and that will take this out in front of everything else below £20,000. But I do agree with Andrew to wait and see what else comes along this year.
It was well shot, no doubt about it. Eye-candy yes. But people need to be more discerning and know the truth. This video could have been shot on the 3 year old 5D Mark II and looked the same, if not better. Video on the D800 is not at the GH2 level in terms of resolution and compression, it just isn't. Those are the facts. I believe people are being slightly blinded by the fact this video has a cool motorbike in it and lots of prozzies.
 11.
http://www.vimeo.com/36305675 Above: Joy Ride shot on the Nikon D800 streams in full 1080p so make sure to view full screen! The long rumoured and leaked Nikon D800 was officially announced today. This is Nikon’s equivalent of Canon’s upcoming 5D Mark 3 and is a very attractive camera which brings almost all of the Nikon D4′s pro DSLR features down to $2999 (£2399 in the UK) but sacrifices cutting edge low light ability for crazy resolution. 12.
UPDATE: De-clicked aperture ring is on the lens for video, according to 43Rumors whom I am sure can read the original German better than I can! Good news! This came out of the blue. Cosina are releasing a sister lens for the 50mm equivalent Micro Four Thirds 25mm Nokton F0.95. The new lens will be equivalent to 35mm on full frame and features the same incredible aperture of F0.95 for extra depth of field control and low light performance on the GH2 and other Micro Four Third (MFT) cameras. 13. Thanks dude. Also see here... http://www.eoshd.com/content/3576/re-wrap-avchd-clips-to-quicktime-in-no-time
 14. Underexposing on the GH2 is not recommended unless you are going for a silhouette or rich tones in a sky or in a sunset. In low light it is better to boost the ISO than to under expose at a lower ISO. The codec does not handle the lows that great compared to other DSLRs, and all CMOS sensors show more fixed pattern noise when the signal is lower... i.e. exposure, amount of light entering the sensor. Hope that helps.  :)
 15. Every site seems to be in on the act of predicting 5D Mk 3 release dates. I don't predict stuff I just report what I hear. This isn't a credible source I don't think. However there IS a new 24-70mm coming out and there is a 5D Mk 3 coming pretty soon. However be prepared that it may not be until Photokina in September. Ditto GH3.
 16.
Unless you are shooting at base ISO in good lighting I suggest people who shoot above ISO 800 to avoid the NEX 7 like a plague. Even at base ISO the higher resolution NEX 7 lacks fine details compare to the 5DMkII and that is not good.
Your view is extremely extreme! You seem to be mistaking 'close' with 'bad'. The NEX 7 is not 'bad' at high ISOs, it is close to the 5D Mark II since it has gapless micro lenses and a 3 year more modern sensor design despite having a smaller pixel pitch. Believe me it doesn't look like the plague. Also... Try one before judging.
 17. Cool test. But remember guys that is only really showing resolution. Moire and aliasing is not as bad on the NEX 7 as on the Canons. That kind of deep depth of field architecture shot is better suited to the GH2. The NEX 7 has different strengths, gladly those strengths are pretty much where the GH2 has a few weaknesses. Namely, 1080p slow mo, sensor size, dynamic range and colour. The NEX 7 is a very handy camera, trust me... If you can afford both and need two cameras for your project, they accompany each other well. This is a case of take the test with a pinch of salt.
 18.
http://www.vimeo.com/36214357 I have the idea to make a tense but beautiful low light, budget thriller with the Nikon J1. It is ideally suited to it. It has the least amount of rolling shutter for handheld camera movement of all the DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, and the smaller sensor (2.7x crop) makes it far easier to focus at fast apertures like F1.2 for low light. At that aperture on full frame you will have a nose in focus, but eyes off! Not much good. 19.
"The quality of stills on the NEX 7 are astonishing and at the 5D Mark II level. It is like an APS-C version of that camera image quality wise." Get lost!!!! The samples I've seen from the NEX 7 doesnt come close to the 5DMkII. You can compare RAW samples on dpreview. NEX 7 ISO 400 noise is about the same as the 5DMkII at ISO 1600, a 2 stop margin but despite the Sony's higher resolution it is not as good as the Canon on finer details http://***URL removed***/reviews/sonynex7/page27.asp
I don't know what you are seeing, but to say the NEX 7 doesn't come close to the 5D MkII for stills is just plain wrong! At base ISO it is giving more detail, in RAW and JPEG. At ISO 1600 again in RAW it is only *slightly* noisier and yet STILL resolves more resolution and is less soft. In JPEG the noise reduction engine is more advanced in the Sony since it is far newer in terms of image processing. Also an APS-C sensor is less demanding on your lens in terms of coverage, vignetting and corner sharpness. Plus you can adapt more to it. The NEX 7 beats the 5D Mark II hands down for stills. Probably will write an article about this since I have both and do actually use them for stills as well as video. By the way, the manner in which these sites (DPReview, etc.) test ISO is really silly, under bright studio lights. All the results above are much noisier in REAL low light shooting than they appear there.
 20.
When this lens comes out it would be great to see a comparison between it and the Nokton 25mm. Jim
Chalk and cheese mate. The Nokton is not a full frame 24mm wide angle. It is a characterful and beautifully built super fast F0.95 portrait lens for the GH2. The Samyang is a crisp, sharp (hopefully) fast wide angle for full frame, suited to low light landscapes and run & gun.
 21.
Pentax have just unveiled a mirrorless version of their K5 called the K-01. The video on a K5 was pretty much an afterthought, it will be interesting to see what they have done with this new mirrorless version. http://www.pentaxforums.com/news/pentax-k-01-officially-announced.html Chris
I want it to be good. But it looks like a Lego Brick and has no unique technology in it. Sony, Canon and Panasonic develop their own sensors, Canon and Sony develop their own EVFs. Pentax don't even have an EVF on the Lego Brick and their sensor is from Sony. Ground breaking? Doesn't look like it but I will be over the moon to proved wrong....
 22.
I really like the image of this camera. The tone gradation is lovely. Hey Andrew, would you say this camera looks "more professional" to show up in a paid gig than, say, the GH2? I know this can be a dumb question, but unfortunately, showing up in a paid gig, looks matter too... at least for some clients. How would you compare this camera's "pro look" to a Canon 7D? Really wanna know your opinion. Love your site. Please keep it up!
Hey my Borat bro. If you turn up to a pro gig in a mankini, it won't look good no matter what. I think the camera if it is anything less diminutive than a FS100, C300 or AF100 benefits from an external monitor, cage, and rig. Then the client will think it looks pro. The client of course should be more bothered about what kind of video they get at the end of it.
 23.
http://www.vimeo.com/36117747 Thanks mainly to the unexpected success of their NEX line of consumer mirrorless cameras, Sony are probably the only company to realise the truth about mirrorless and its future direction. Namely that it is the future, especially for video.
