That will appeal to a lot of people. Yes, of course, there will be the “not for me” crowd but realistically that looks - absence of specs notwithstanding! - pretty decent for most. I like the number of physical buttons and the way it will presumably slot into a stills/video ecosystem makes it an impressive little beast. I wonder how many will be prepared to switch into the Canon garden of goodies. At least until the rumoured Nikon enters the fray.

Its not about selling more, it is about installing Nikon as a viable video/cinema brand to every potential buyers from the Nikon z30 to the Z9. The message will be, here you have a camera that for 3-4000 USD, uses the same tech as the V-Raptor, that was used in the 200 millions latest Superman and Tron Hollywood blockbusters. For this reason, they can't make a toy of a camera. They have to show a good to great camera, to showcase their new status and ambition. With an FX3 style body and price range, it is perfect for the Nikon users who are not used to buy 7000 to 30 000 USD cameras. A 3 to 4 000 camera, is still within the means of many Nikon professionals, that can add it to expand their market to video, or even some RED users, that want a second body, or a director that uses rented Raptors for features, but could buy this for personal use and scouting etc. I expect them to come out with a future FX6 style camera as the next Komodo and mirror the Sony lineup, which has become very very successful.

It has been rumored some months ago that Nikon is working on a new Log format. It seems the RED guy who is doing most of this, like the new view assist and the RED luts for Nikon LOG. My guess is that we will get at least a version of Redraw and their log format, as the name of the camera itself makes reference to RED in the R.
-
Nope, it is the same, as it was from the same leak. It has been discused a lot in the Canon C50 thread. At first they thought it was perhaps the C50, then it shifted to the Zr or perhaps DJI full frame camera. Because it was using a PL to L mount adapter. No Canon or Nikon would use a Lmount adapter.
-
For a fraction of a happy second I thought thats SDI. Nope, we're not there yet.

I think such a compact form factor would benefit greatly from IBIS to eliminate micro jitters on handheld shots, but gimbal shooters probably don’t want it to mitigate wobble effect on wide lenses. Not a deal breaker for me personally but I’d be disappointed if they omit it. Sony shill tubers will have a field day pointing that out as a miss if that’s the case.

Time to revive that 18-135mm usm with power zoom add on. With that thickness and lots of vent this one wont be overheating at all, Lumix really need to take a cue on it
-
Yes, I would prefer no ibis for a multitude of reasons. The C50 is such a chubby FX3 epigone that it has to outclass it in order to not be torn apart by all the shilltubers. Open gate is more or less confirmed, but what sensor and what read out speed and what dynamic range we will see is still unclear. But nice that they put a CFexpress card inside, the rumors were talking about 2x SD.
-
You mean you don't want IBIS? I have a feeling its going to be absent. That zoom rocker is interesting too. Wonder if that will allow digital zoom a la Sony clear image zoom.
-
I really hope they don't ruin it with IBIS. And seeing that they use the LP-E6p, battery life will probably be ok, but not great.
-
Its looking pretty good, very cool they kept the lock screw mount from the rest of the C line. Guess we know for sure it does stills. Looking more & more like a R5C II in a FX type body. Lots of vents: front, side & rear.. Now all we need is the specs!
-
Looks nice, no ND though. I hope it will have ibis and great battery life.

@ND64 That's a different camera than was posted by @D Verco, though? The lumix has what appears to be an EVF, while the one on the previous page has a flat top. Also the one on the previous page doesn't have the PL to L text on the top of the adapter, like in that top down shot in the other thread. Maybe I missed something. It seems like a bunch of different cameras.

PhotoRumors says its a new Lumix. And he's right. They guy was intentionally not good at blurring photos. So it wasn't ZR. S7 with S1ii sensor maybe? Ironically SD/microSD configuration makes more sense for this camera.
-
But they need to have a low end body after all. I'm pretty sure ZV-E1 sells more than FX3.
-
Honestly Nikon really needs a better log profile. If they adopt Log3G10 or something that brings more dynamic range, that'll be a great thing. But you're right, if that's the only Red tech it's going to be very lacklustre. They might add things like traffic lights for exposure monitoring but that's not a huge thing. And it'd be wild if they still didn't have open gate. Nikon's been talking about the importance of video in interviews for years, they've lost customers who need an ecosystem that includes video bodies. And now they own Red. I think people are expecting a camera that can be used for video work in the fx3/ fx6 C50/ C80 category. So if all they bring is a low end model, people are going to be pissed.

The only "Red tech" that anybody is likely to really care about is Redcode and/or the Red's sensors. If Nikon release some sort of entry-level camera where the only Red tech is a color profile to have SOOC colors look like Red's image, I hope their people doing the presentation are going to be wearing fireproof suits because they will get flamed.

Apparently this is the new Nikon camera. It looks incredibly thin, which now with the microsd leak makes me thing it's an entry level camera. which is very disapointing for me personally.

RED raw was never in the rumored specs. It was "RED tech", whatever it means.
-
Probably totally wrong, but if the microSD is included in the Zr and it is a "cinema" camera, then I am thinking that the microSD slot might be used to store LUTs, for firmware updates, or maybe more interesting... used for audio files for a separate built in wireless audio feature.
-
I think you are a 100% on the money, there was probably confusion with the ZF, which indeed does carry that card set up. Truthfully I have no idea how Red code and SD/Mirco SD can work out!
-
The more I think about this, the more I think it is a confusion between the release two days ago of the Silver ZF and that ZR cameras. No one predicted the Silver ZF and it is the only camera in the Nikon lineup that has a combination of SD and Micro SD card. It is too much coincidence, they must have mixed from their source. The likes of "Hey Nikon has a next camera with have SD and Micro SD, and it was the Silver ZF". For those that don't know the Nikon lineup. The Nikon Zf is a retro style FF photo camera that was in black only. And Nikon just this week, released a Silver version out of nowhere.
