CVP in-depth review + comparison tests with R5C, C80, FX3, etc:

Kasey will make a full video about the cripple hammer on 30fps oversampled 4k limit.

If somehow the "Red tech" is Redcode and the rumors are wrong and that it has a CF Express, this could be a big seller (and interesting to me). But yeah, those things look increasingly unlikely. Still, Nikon Raw to SD card could be compelling, depending on other features/specs/price. The big question, really, is how much Nikon want to preserve Red as a "premium" brand vs trying to make Nikon a name that people associate with cinema/video.

Canon USA drops new teaser (FX30 competitor?)
eatstoomuchjam replied to Ty Harper's topic in Cameras
The official announcement happened. The most recent rumors seem to have been correct. It's probably not a camera for me, but it looks like a solid option for people who want a compact Canon which can do 3:2. Along with the announcement, there were firmware updates announced for C80, C70, R5C, and C400. They seem not very interesting in general, but the C400 will get open gate which will be nice for people who want that. -

Yes, it seems that Nikon has really decided to go entry level camera. I don't even know the market they are aiming at, because the z6iii or even Z5ii might have better internal video specs than the ZR because of the rumored SD/MicroSd cards in the Zr. Unless they are selling lower than 2000 USD, I can't see it selling that much. Nikon users like me already have better specked camera than what we know now about the Zr. And I can't see vloggers/content creators putting more than 2k in a camera.

Nikon's own NRAW supports up to 20:1 compression ratio. But its very unlikely they do that. Its a h.265 All-I camera.

Yeah that struck me as a innovative feature and smart way of putting open gate to practical use. All in all this is a solid release: 7K60 FF, 7K30 open gate, 4K120p uncropped, 5K S35, 2.5K S16. DPAF II. RAW. CLOG2/3. 32MP stills. Dual Base ISO of 800 & 6400. $4000 with top XLR handle. I like how the handle has rec button and zoom rocker. Cons are no IBIS and no mech shutter. Hoping the claims of improved low rolling shutter are significant.

I don't know, but REDcode uses RED processors, I remember the guy from RED saying how the Nikon one, that is the Xpeed, was super efficient.
-
If it has the RedCode, I don't see how it could not overheats without fan writing 1.4 Gb at MQ. Is Nikon blending the laws of physic?
-
Zero overheating even in 6k 60p raw. But I live in Scandinavia so take that with a grain of salt. Sadly riddled by moiré though, other than that an amazing camera. Extremely disappointed that Nikons first “cinema” camera seems to be catering to the “content creating” vlog crowd. The only thing that could possibly save this is some sort of new ultra efficient red raw codec and a brilliant OLPF.

So it was the camera in that German video but from that photos, it's not a cinema camera.
-
Maybe. What's the z6iii overheating like?
-
No, there is no air vent. As I said before its Nikon's ZV-E1, not FX3.

Other than "open gate" and "extra CF Express slot," that list sounds like a less good R5C. You can go spend $800 less (new) or more than $1,000 less (used) and get all the same, but with 8Kp60 raw video and 45 megapixel still images. Oh, and burst photo rate. R5C matches R5, IIRC, and maxes out at 20? Doubt that's a big selling point on a cinema line camera, though. (Broken record: But make that 7K DGO and...) -
If it can do 60fps at 16:9, max burst should have been higher than 40fps. I guess video is 12bit read out.

Canon Rumors put these as his spec, I think he changed it form before as he state he did put some bad spec before.
