    Nikon Zr is coming

After shooting with ZR and 135mm F1.8 Plena outside for a few hours in depressing Autumn darkness, and another few inside with 35 1.4 it’s pretty clear the ZR and R3D NE have their perks. ZR feels quite small and nimble with the 35 1.4, and ok with the Plena without extra L grip. I can live without Z6iii EVF, barely. Focusing and exposing via ZR display works ok even from 20m away with the Plena at F1.8 during and after sunset. Exposing via highlights set to 245 work fine, as does the Cinema tools false color LUT. With CT LUT there is no zebras though, only with built in Rec709 LUT. The Red colors are a bit different (better?) than with NRaw and blue is not over saturated with LEDs. In low light R3D NE is clearly better than NRaw. With IPP2 pipeline grading is also a bit faster to get better results, both in SDR and HDR in Resolve. The only big downside is that neither RED Cine X Pro nor Resolve cannot export the trimmed R3D NE clips from the timeline at the moment, probably due to a bug in Red SDK. Resolve just copies the whole clips. Shooting longer periods from sticks is then a no go atm, unless you compress the raw to H.265 and save that, or edit your project straight from the CFExpress card. Copying whole 2TB to SSD is just stupid, if there is only 100-500GB of footage worth saving. Hopefully there is an update to Red SDK and the ZR could need a FW update too for some minor bugs and for H.265, which did look softer than Z6iii H.265.

    Nikon Zr is coming

In an alleged board meeting, it was suggested but in the end, ZR narrowly got the vote.
  5. This camera is OOAK. Period. - E.
  6. I remember @Mattias Burling posting this. I always wondered if he tried to repair or even open that RX100. Starts at 1m39s.
  7. I suspect they got cold feet after the BS1H box camera and whatever the other box one was. See, no one even really remembers their names, or in some cases, that they existed. LUMIX just seem to have been one of those companies that have focused more on the internal than the external and expect enough respect to come from what it can do, not how it does it or how it goes about it. Meanwhile, Leica and Sigma within the alliance, have possibly had more focus on the external, the build, the form etc. Between them, they could build the ultimate camera. Individually they probably could, but no one ever seems to quite manage it... The bottom line is we are probably not representative of the bulk of their sales, but I think it's a case of they are not pushing the boat out far enough. I'm going to have a t-shirt made that reads; PUSH THE FUCKING BOAT OUT. OR DIE!
  8. The GX7 had it too. I had one and loved it. The GX7 Is also had the flip-up screen rather than the flip-out screen of the GX8.

I would absolutely use it and as above, it would be my first choice, clean sheet. The ZR/Nikon probably doesn't quite have the AF of Sony and it might not quite have the IBIS of LUMIX, but we are really beginning to split hairs these days when it comes to spec and performance. It's compact, has possibly THE best lens selection (IMO, there is no 'possibly' about it, - it just does including near native adaptation of Sony E glass via Megadap) and it's e Shutter only approach on the ZR and Z8 would not be an issue for me as it is with LUMIX where in certain lighting conditions, it's shit (for stills). Give me a pair of ZR's, a single Z8 and 3 lenses of my choice, 1x monopod and 1x tripod and weddings/events would be a breeze. No better than my current LUMIX set up, just a sideways one and one I would not hesitate to use. I could make the same argument for Sony and Canon. It just comes down to personal choice.

Faster than what? Only downsides for longer shootings I can think of is the r3d code file sizes, h265 is sorta unusable..
  11. LOL. I know. We are talking about the lack of a modern full frame L-mount version of the GX8/GX9.
  12. Not for weddings/event videos you think? Looking for a faster setup.

Yeah good move approaching indie RED shooters rather than your usual hybrid / YT influencer. Great review with strong footage. More I think of it, ZR is the perfect travel cam, street shooter.
  14. You can do it sit from your desk instead, via another app. Side by side your fav capture device with much better autofocus, charging your batteries at the same time. That's what I have to say. Disclaimer (for note): Nothing against AI. On the contrary, just not everywhere. It may happen to end profitable, for sure but still stands as silly. (and annoying as hell!) And counterproductive.
  15. Any extreme overheating is a deal breaker. At least to me. As happened with any of the previous mobile "prescriptions" released before by Android side (Android user here, as of now BTW). Let alone MotionCam workflow (and reliability*!) so far... A true PITA (a 1/3 to 50% more expensive). * dropped frames... (as usual as it goes) depending on variables such as CPU, hot balance under several and distinct shooting conditions... c'mon! And I do NOT even mention broadcast compliance.

I like this way of marketing to give the camera to youtubers with low number followers and turns out they're talented and need more recognition.
  17. probably but i'd speculate bm carved out a fair sized chunk of the market for themselves.. Another rabbit warren for you to crawl down kye, would be get an 0.5 or thereabouts achromatic diopter. Depending on your style of filming , probably not much good for normal distance stuff, however if you were using it for close focus out to 3-4 meters perhaps you might be ok. As you probably know the closer you focus the less the squeeze. With it attached you reset the infinity focus point to a lot closer, regain your squeeze ratio, and thats my understanding of it all, hopefully others can chime in with more clarification. Im looking for one for myself in 77mm diameter, but their rarer than hens teeth. I missed an opportunity to get one from Rapido and now they seem to be out of stock. Maybe they get done in batches im not sure, i'd take a tokina or slr magic as well but their all quite rare to find and they are all at least a couple hundred dollars as well.
  18. you can make lasagna in an air fryer ? Now that's a video I'd like to see.. i guess the concept of an air fryer could differ from country to country. Ours had a blade that turned chips over as it rotated and cooked and thats about it. Japanese screw-head geometry, thats torx head or what we call torx head over here? A cross between a phillips head and hex bit ?
  19. That was my very first thought when I saw the FX2. I loved my GX8 back in the day. Sleeper standout right there.
  20. They had an FX2-like body design (including a flip-up, multi-angle EVF) 9 years ago in the form of the GX8 - https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gx8-review/3

  22. Nice. With a bit of practice it's less scary than it sounds, and you just need the right tools and steady hand. A JIS standard screwdriver is a must... they use weird Japanese screw-head geometry, which the normal Philips head screwdrivers have a habit of stripping. The only things I don't go near are modern lenses... Hellish. Especially the zooms if you go deeper than taking the rear mount off.
  23. Haven't you got an Air Frier yet? Or is there something about France that forbids progress in the kitchen πŸ™‚
  24. I have many questions about your Sirui setup πŸ™‚ How easy is it to focus and what's the min FD when combined with the Voigtlander 42? Are these shots wide open at F0.95 on the Voigtlander? Could you go wider, with the Sirui? Voigtlander 17.5mm? It really is a lovely result you've posted and would be happy to see more. The GH7 is such a good choice when you have optics as good as the Voigtlander Noktons are... and anamorphic is the cherry on top. Makes me want to get a GH7 in fact.
  25. Panasonic did much more overall than BM.
  26. I do appreciate a viewfinder, though. As it stands an FX3 is hardly usable without rigging, based on screen quality alone.
