  1. Past hour
  2. If they filmed The Creator on FX3’s, then on the Eterna, it would be a piece of piss. Which all goes to show it’s: lenses + lighting + talent + grading + budget + everything…and the camera is pretty much the least important component.
  3. Today
  4. It really surprises me how many of these fuckers pose and smile for the camera. They're absolutely insane. It's absolutely insane. This world is absolutely insane.
  5. I had "Harv audio and video stuff" in my subs and it also suddenly disappeared during the last days. I noticed because I refreshed my Newpipe subs (I use this on my phone) and I received a "can't reach feed" message. It was the same with Mattia's channel.
  6. I've always found YouTube comments pretty positive. They certainly were on Burling's channel. Everyone was enjoying a wholesome source and then poooof... gone. A real shame and not the right way to bail on your community. To be honest, I am annoyed at the guy.

  8. This is why I've never put my work on YouTube (and some people were suggesting that I do). I've had enough rejection in my life, I don't need to set myself as a target for more. Who needs to show the world their baby they put a lot of care in to making just to have some dweeb say that it sucks or something.
  9. It would not surprise me in the least if Mattias packed it all in due to: A. Having a YouTube channel can be very taxing, especially if trying to do it as a business rather than just for fun as it’s a beast that never stops increasing it’s appetite, plus, B. It can get so toxic in the comments and most take it too personally and it only takes one or two toxic trolls and it can stress them out so much, it ruins it for them. Based on a couple of pals and their own YouTube experience…
  10. I’m not ‘waiting’ for it as such, but based on my S9 experience, it could be something pretty special. If they get it right. If they even make one… I have gone backwards and forwards over what to do with my S9 that has been at times both A cam and B cam but due to me picking up a pair of S1RII’s mid last year, plus certain limitations of the S9 (mainly build), I was going to let it go… But then too many times I have let stuff go and regretted it so I have repurposed it giving it an XLCS cage, super-lightweight tripod and the dedicated 2 lenses to it, the 18mm or 85mm f1.8. I am hoping they do an S9II with a bigger screen à la ZR but with the S1I/R/E tilt option. And make it a bit more robust but spec wise, it’s already peak camera for my needs. So @gethin maybe look at an S9 because straight out of the box, it’s very high spec and really it’s only the body that is a bit weak, but beef it up with a cage and it’s 💪 And used, pretty cheap!
  11. Yesterday
  12. Even in the Soviet Union, the ordinary people understood "the state's truth" and truth as understood as what really happens as separate (they had different words for the two in Russian). Pravda means what the state would like people to believe and the people understood that it would be in the interests of the state that the regular people believe it, but they knew it was not really the truth. In private conversations people would talk about a different version of truth which is what actually happens. I would imagine Americans would eventually also learn to read the motives of the makers of the media content and evaluate it in that context. But it seems the desire to believe and follow an authority is deep in some subcultures of America, perhaps coming from religious history or something like that.
  13. The US press has not been free in a long time. In 2025, the US were ranked the 57th most free country in the freedom of press index. It seems a small number of very rich people control the press and media in general, and truth-seeking reporting is not considered a high priority to these people. Arresting journalists is just another step towards an autocratic state.
  14. Last week
  15. It's never going to happen, but the ideal scenario would be every developed country investing in the tech space to create more competition overall. As countries pull away from the United States (and rightfully so) they might look towards China, but that's just replacing one bad actor with another. It's just hard to think of playing catch up.
  16. It depends if you shoot 24/25/30p or 50/60. The S5ii has the crop at 50/60p which might make the wider shots a bit difficult. I believe if you a doing real estate then you are using a lot of wide shots. The S1ii is great due to it’s flexibility and I think the GH7 looks very good too. But…do you really want to change brands and start collecting lenses etc again? Sometimes it is worth it but sometimes it’s just change for change’s sake.
  17. Now they are trying to take away our free press rights. Don Lemon was arrested for doing what journalists are supposed to do. Show up, document, and report. Not for inciting violence. Not for committing a crime. For pointing a camera and telling the public what was happening. That is a line you do not cross in a free society. When the state starts treating the cameras we use and reporters as threats, that is not about public safety, it is about control. This is how authoritarian systems work. You intimidate the press, you criminalize documentation, and you teach people that witnessing power is dangerous. The camera has always been an anti fascism tool. That is exactly why they are trying to silence it now. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jan/30/don-lemon-minnesota-protest-charges
  18. Fuji's released a short film shot on Eterna - lensed by Oren Soffer, cinematographer of The Creator.
  19. My main point is none of the reforms will ever happen in the current system. Because the current system is setup to protect a few’s interest and not of the many. I don’t prefer a benevolent dictator but do you honestly think all these people that watch brain rot Fox News lie and be dishonest and disingenuous and not cover “news” but instead sling giant opinion turds around ever going to see that they are oppressed. They are taught to worship their oppressors. But their scam merch. Parrot their lies. It’s all quite fucked.
  20. I will wait until nikon fixes the h265 codec on the zr. Then I will buy it, I just can't shoot RAW video all the time. the ibis I can work around, the AF seems pretty good, the image is gorgeous, not the fastest for photo's but for travel it looks like a dream camera (if they fix the h265 codec).
  21. And Microsoft. Remember the cloudflare aviation outage? Gates is way more influential than most heads of state.
  22. I got really excited about the ZR but luckily the issues with h.265 stopped from spontaneously getting one. The more time I spent learning about it, the more I realised it's maybe not for me. I'm waiting for what the S9 II or A7C III will bring, even though that's probably one to two years down the line at this point.
  23. If anything good comes out of this, less dependance and less monopolies would be a great thing. [UK switching to Chinese tech in 3,2,1...]
  24. Also consider the S1IIE if the budget will stretch. Sits right between the S5II and the S1II. Really nice bit of kit and overlooked by many… I really wanted to like the ZR but for me it has two issues; I love the form factor and screen, but wish it would tilt and not just flip out to the side, plus in order to get the best out of it, you need to shoot the insanely large raw files. I’d rather have my Lumix spec in that style of ZR/FX3 body for sure and hope it happens sometime.
  25. Me too. Ergonomically it's nice. Holding up to your eye with the loupe is good for both stability and keeping out sunlight from the screen. If it was all programmable, even with a third-party firmware hack, it would be great! I agree again. There's several nifty retro style cameras out now that are fun but just have such crappy image quality. The early days of digital photography had such a variety of shapes that were tried. Kind of like the Burgess Shale fossils. No, but CMOS has come a long way in image quality, global shutter and colour depth which are the things that people like about CCDs. A new camera could be made with a good CMOS sensor. My first miniDV camera was the Canon ZR10. Amazing little thing. Pretty good quality for its time and tiny. (Truly a palmcorder.) I shot lots of stuff with it. https://global.canon/en/c-museum/product/dvc673.html If they came out with the same body and features, but recording HD, 2K or 4K in ProRes (or raw) to a card it would be great!
  26. Dynamic range a bit crap. I know the zr has similarly crap DR, but the examples I saw on redraw looked lovely (nice highlight rolloff), that’s what got me interested to start with, but seeing how crap the h.265 was in comparison has put me off
  27. I really feel for Europe and how it’s been bullied by the US for decades—through trade agreements, military operations, and more. I’ve been telling people here in France for years to stop following the US blindly. Europe gets screwed every time. I’m a leftist in France, but I vote in the US; believe me, I do it consistently. Right now, that’s the best way to make a difference. And remember—the US is full of well-intentioned, humane, and kind people. The only way things change is through voting, in my opinion. As for Mattias, maybe he just wants to disconnect. I get it. I’m into politics, but sometimes the sheer mess of it all is too much. To recharge my political energy while keeping my sanity, I go back to season 1, episode 1 of The West Wing and start over. I focus on my family and, importantly, on voting in the real world—with my attention on policy, not culture wars. These days, my priority is taxing the obscenely wealthy, and I figure the rest will follow.
  28. Yes, it's very difficult right now not to feel dirty. I've always been pretty far left politically, and as such pretty critical of the style of greedy capitalism that has won out, but today there is virtually no ethical way to do much of anything because EVERYTHING is wrapped up in some pretty deplorable shit. The way the tech companies especially kneeled to this administration, it just feels dirty to even use their services but it's virtually impossible not to. Everything uses at least something from Google or Amazon to operate and run. Look at how many sites and services become unusable when Amazon Web Services goes down, for example. The internet itself grinds almost to a complete halt. It's such a bleak time.
