Fuji X100S

As a stills camera I liked the Fuji X100 – it was an actual die-hard photographic tool with gorgeous good looks in a sea of plastic consumer gadgetry. However the terrible AF and fly by wire manual focussing technology spoilt it, and the video mode was very much an afterthought. Fuji have taken steps to address all of this with the X100S getting a significant upgrade under the familiar retro style casing.

Fuji X Pro 1 - X mount exposed

There is more to this camera than meets the eye. In my first look I was rather taken aback by the eccentricities of the camera and just could not work out what it offered over the cheaper NEX 7. Now in a surprised double-take, I am beginning to believe it is actually the best mirrorless on the market for stills. And the 1080p video mode – once you know the limitations – is capable of producing incredible results.

The Fuji X100

Fuji have confirmed to Reuters (via MirrorlessRumors.com) they are to launch a ‘high-end’ interchangeable lens camera, capitalising on the success of their high end X100. Fuji boss Takeshi Higuchi revealed the plans to enter the mirrorless market and said Fuji is aiming to become the third largest camera manufacturer after Canon and Nikon – leap-frogging Sony and Samsung from their current 5th position.
