I have the XLR version, and have had it for the last 6 or so years. The $200 and under mic market has gotten really competitive in the last couple of years, so there might be better values by now, but I really, really like it and have no need to "upgrade" until it stops working, if that time ever comes. Azden gets overshadowed by Rode and Deity, but they have some really solid gear.

He claims that his previous videos "shook a tree" and netted him some "reliable sources", but his account is literally just him creating videos "reporting" what the rumor sites report, so I am skeptical that he has any sources of his own. That trip IS very peculiar though. I still feel it's unlikely they flew so many people out to Japan for just a lens reveal for M43, especially because people like Chris Hau were there, and they're S5 shooters not M43 ones. Perhaps it was a combination of a lens release and getting feedback from YouTubers on a future release? Or maybe we're all just dumb and getting our hopes up? It could be anything, haha!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but are you Russian by chance? I know you said you're in Georgia, but a lot of Russians have fled to Georgia. The reason I ask is that since the war my Russian friend that lives in France has had a harder time getting work, too.

I can't imagine they'd do that but nothing would surprise me these days.

It will be very disappointing if it's solely lens releases (they announced a new 12-35 today too.)

I know in the past DJI released drones with M43 sensors and even released a 15mm f1.4 lens, which was just a re-branded version of the Panasonic Leica 15mm. I'm curious what DJI gets out of this new partnership, assuming it's all related.

I'm much more cautious than John, ha ha, especially regarding the specifics, but I do suspect something significant. I've seen folks post that they've returned from Japan, so I imagine we'll see what's up once the embargo is lifted. I do, however, think if it was something ready for release they'd have done it while everyone was there still, so I am thinking whatever it is probably won't be ready for a while and this is just Panasonic trying to keep people more informed on what they're working on, which is really all most of us Panasonic users have been asking. I do think an external LIDAR system is better than nothing, but I also am unsure how I feel about having to spend more money to get better auto focus technology. It's probably something I'd pass on as I've made their AF work for most of my uses, but I would kinda also ask myself "what are we doing here?" I mean, external hardware to get better AF? Really?

It'd be asinine to fly a bunch of auto focus obsessed YouTubers across the world to release another contrast AF camera, right? Then again this is Panasonic, so who knows?!

It's probably wishful thinking but I still think it might be something significant. That the people I've seen are video shooters, it'd be weird that they were flown for a photo centric release. I suppose we'll find out over the next couple days.

The main problem with cloud storage I've had is that every company eventually either decreases their offerings or drastically raises their prices. You're kind of at the mercy of whatever company you go with. About 10 years ago I had all my stuff backed up to a service called Bitcasa. What it provided then would be considered incredible today. For like $99/year you would get unlimited storage, and all these bells and whistles. I had terabytes of data on there when they raised the price to $999/year. I moved my data to Amazon Drive. That worked fine for a few years, until they too raised the price and eventually offered only unlimited storage for photos. After hopping around from service to service I just decided to create back ups on hard drives and store them in a fire proof safe. Once I set up my office I'll build a NAS, but things are working okay right now especially since I have gigabit fiber internet, so if I need to share something I can upload it to Google Drive within an hour.

It would seem to be a significant announcement though, given I think this is the first time they've flown people to Japan for an event in years (certainly pre-pandemic.) They didn't do that for the GH6 did they?

I'm gonna say, given how good old C100 footage still holds up, it's still a very capable camera in 2022.

I guess I can see why some people might feel like the C100 is too big, if they've primarily shot with mirrorless cameras, but it is, in my opinion, the perfect size and was very comfortable to hold. I would trade the mirrorless camera ergonomics for that kind of body any day.

The c100 is one of my favorite cameras I've ever uses when it came to size and form factor, I just could never justify the price even on the used market. It was just so comfortable in the hands, at least for me. It'd be hard to "go back" to a c100 given all the new features that have come out since, but I think it absolutely would still hold up IQ wise for a lot of work. You probably wouldn't even need to use software like Topaz to upscale it to 4K. Less DSLR style bodies and more C100 style bodies plz.

It's not that I think Twitter was perfect before, or that there isn't room to innovate, it's that I think Elon Musk is an idiot that is obsessed with the platform and shitposting. When you are among the wealthiest people in the world you can afford to hire geniuses to build companies like Tesla and SpaceX. Elon is not an engineer, he's not deep in the bowels of those companies leading the charge in innovation and development. He's just a guy that comes from a rich family that used his money to facilitate it. He was smart enough to understand his limitations when it came to these things, but when it comes to Twitter the same can't be said. It seems clear that he is deeply hands-on with everything going on with Twitter right now, which has resulted in internal chaos, plummeting ad revenue, and embarrassing public outbursts. Being an erratic asshole that antagonizes a large part of the user base and its advertisers isn't an intelligent thing to do, particularly when you've spent 44 BILLION DOLLARS on a company that wasn't profitable. He can pretend it is advertisers wanting to silence "free speech" (no Elon, you're just an asshole and brands don't want to be associated with a site that seems poised to let a bunch of racists and fascists back on it) and whatever other excuse he wants to make, but ultimately the dude just isn't nearly as smart as he (and millions of others) think he is. When you are that obscenely wealthy it is pretty easy to accumulate more wealth by leveraging your assets regardless of your business acumen or intelligence. Elon is just the latest example of that. It's time for society to stop putting these people on a pedestal and thinking they're smart.

It's very popular with wedding videographers in part because it can record a safety track you can use in the event the person mic'd up gets too loud. If that's your budget ($180) then that's a very good option. You'll get "good enough" audio straight out of it, and even better if you do a little post processing. If you do have the budget the Tentacle Track E is a great option, due to the timecode feature and the option to record in 32-bit float, which can be a life saver in the event someone gets too loud.
