  1. It didn't make sense to me either, but I figured that maybe a physical programmable intervalometer remote (like I've used on my Canon gear) might offer some benefit to the OP in practical usage versus digging through the camera menus? I suppose we could start a campfire while we wait for the OP's return...S'more? :)
  2. Thanks for the news, Andrew, I've been continually checking for this update since Panasonic announced it was coming! Woot! 😄 Most looking-forward-to the 6K, 5.9K, 5.4K modes as they'll greatly enhance my wide-angle shooting allowing for 4K punch-ins for regions-of-interest and for added post-shoot 4K panning...it'll be a good day! That, and I'll be curious if manual control over the Dual-ISO capabilities offers any benefits over the current auto-switching that occurs (i.e. can one select ISO 1600 from High-Gain 4000 ISO setting? And does it offer a better result than setting 1600 from the base ISO?) Kudos, Panasonic, for your commitment to your customers with these fabulous updates! On the downside, however, I suppose I'll have to eat some crow, though, and invest in a Ninja V (for the time-being) to find out what 12-bit recording will offer...[BEGIN MINI RANT] Panasonic so needs to embrace internal recording (either on current models and, most definitely, on future models) at these higher bit rates for those of us who need to travel light on the trails and can't be incurring the extra weight, attachments and dangerous snag points from extraneous gear. I mean, really Panasonic, if the Ninja V uses media recording to AtomX SATA drives at Read/Write 540/500 MB/s, but you already gave us S1 owners an XQD/CFExpress PCIe card slot that can handle R/W at 1500/1700 MB/s, I'm truly not "getting" what the issues might be to dump those same dang 10-/12-bit V-LOG data bits to the internal cards?! [END MINI RANT] Um, Firmware 2.5?! Haw! Happy (mostly) in NY, 😉 Jim
  3. Hi Lux Shots, The OP stated, "when connected to a timelapse intervalomer" (bolding mine), and that says to me that they were using an external intervalometer device. Yes, I know there's a built-in intervalometer and I asked the OP why they were not using it. My apologies if my previous post was not clearer. :) Jim
  4. Better sensor tech for the masses shooting on their cellphones? Sounds fabulous, bring it on! I'm a fan of all boats rising when the tide comes in! :)
  5. Hi Marta, and welcome to the forum! I'm curious as to which external intervalometer you're using (make/model, pics?) it may give a clue as to the problem. Also, is there a reason you're choosing to use an external intervalometer over the camera's built-in intervalometer (time-lapse) features? Get back at your best convenience, :) Jim
  6. Methinks the first link (BEYOND - PANASONIC LUMIX by Studio ATYPICAL) provides a better understanding as to the latitude of what the S5 sensor can provide in a variety of lighting conditions (i.e. interior with windows vs. backlit with sky vs. ambient interiors vs. lit interiors vs. dark scenes with either ambient of studio lighting vs. etc.) and, as such makes for a better promo for the camera. The latter (PANASONIC | Dare To Differ - Director’s cut by Ruslan Tolkach), IMHO (and to take nothing away from the artistic intents of those involved), quite frankly, with its heavy reliance on crushed shadows, strong color casts and digital effects, looks more like a promo for a LUT/SFX pack than for a camera that can deliver 14-stops of DR with both fabulous highlight retention and clean shadows at high-ISOs. Again, with no malice towards the artists, I got to thinking that perhaps a tool (read: camera) with lesser abilities could have succeeded equally in delivering the artist's intentions as it appears as though all of the previously mentioned sensor qualities were summarily unutilized, nay, rendered irrelevant...to the point that I got to thinking that maybe you had inadvertently transposed the links for the point you were trying to make? :) Jim
  7. My hope here (expectation, actually) is that Panasonic will go with their own organic sensors for their next wave of releases (post-Japan-Olympics) with a line of 8K/wide-DR/high-ISO/global-shutter cameras (yes, MFT, too). Quite frankly, the market could use some better sensor differentiation, IMHO, and I'd love to see Panasonic and Nikon and Sigma succeed in bringing their own sensor technology to market each for their own unique imaging characteristics. Sony can continue to sell their sensors to the upstarts (like Z-Cam) and stay in the green. Time to move this market forward...again, IMHO.
  8. Do GoPros count... gopro 4k | eBay https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=gopro+4k&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=gopro ...?
  9. I'm currently investigating bird movements within local environments and feel the need for a 360° camera for my bird-logging efforts and to help educate myself on how better to understand species motivations and choices as they move through the local landscape, I can't tell you how many times I wish I had eyes behind my head while out in the field! So, I'll likely start with the GoPro Max as it seems to offer the best combo of IQ and audio quality (AQ?) in the market at this moment. Beyond that, I'm eagerly awaiting the impending S1 v.2 Firmware, and I've been debating with myself (for way-too-long) on the choice between a BP4029 M/S mic (I love M/S recording!) or the more-sensitive BP4025 X/Y mic.
  10. It certainly looks likes Nikon's R&D has produced their own in-house stacked CMOS technology, a 1-inch CMOS, 134dB at 60 fps, 110dB at 1000fps on a 4K x 4K sensor. It'll be interesting to see what else they've got up their sleeve with this tech in the 35mm and APS-C size categories. Ha! "Buh bye" Sony sensors? Panasonic GH6

Another wishlist item for GH6 (and future S-Series cameras) would be for "Proxy-to-SD/RAW-to-CFExpress" simultaneous recording (as already exists in the market), I'm a big stickler for no external recorders or other extraneous gear or boxes or wires or other tree-branch-snaggable doodads hanging off my camera adding weight and creating water-and-dust in-points when I'm out "bushwhacking it" for a birdie shot! [rant] I'm PO'ed beyond words that I have to purchase and deal-with an external recorder and all of the ridiculous (aforementioned) caveats, costs and constraints to get the most video "juice" out of my 2xS1's...an extra $1k+ in gear and inconvenience, weight and hazard just to record either 10-Bit 4:2:2 60P or ProRes Raw? Really? I'll pay the extra $1K if that's what it really should cost, just put it all in the d*** camera! The folks that still need to play with all of their needed external hookups can still carry on as before! 🙂 [end of rant] -Jim
  12. Hi sandro, I can confirm that the information in the Lumix instructional video that MrSMW posted is accurate for my EF-mount Sigma lenses adapted via the Sigma MC-21 EF–L Adapter. Regarding my AF experiences going this route I'm not seeing any discernible differences in performance versus using the same lenses on my Canon EF bodies (5DII, 7D, 30D, 70D) with the lenses I have used cross-mount so far. Those lenses would include... Sigma's 18-35mm, 50-100mm, 20mm Art; 14mm, 24-70mm, 50mm, 85mm, 150mm Macro, 500mm f/4.5, 300-800mm non-Art's; 150-600mm C; 120-300mm S and non-S; original 1.4x & 2x TCs; latest 1.4x & 2x TC's ...and it appears that the same "no AF over f/8-max" rule with the TC's (both old and new styles) holds true on both systems, so no free lunch there, ha! As for cross-compatibility with my remaining native-Canon glass...I have yet to try the 100mm L Macro and my TS-E's are MF (manual focus). Regarding IS with the two Sigma OS lenses (120-300S, 150-600C), the choice is either Lens IS (OS) or Body IS (apparently the L-Alliance has not yet allowed all parties to share in Dual-IS functioning) setup in the Menu. The OS Off/Mode1/Mode2 position switch on both lenses allows for instant (non-Menu) toggling between "all image stabilization Off" in Off, "all-axes stabilization" in Mode 1, and Auto "panning detect" stabilization in Mode 2 for either Lens or Body stabilization (depending on which is selected in the Stabilization Menu). Of note, with Panasonic's native IS lenses one cannot change between Lens and/or Body IS, it's either all-Dual-IS or no-IS at all...maybe a niche request, but I, personally, would have appreciated a lens switch on my Panasonic Kit 24-105mm (and future 70-200mm) for "Dual/Lens/Body/Off" IS so I could fine-tune my IS needs as needed in the field. And, as an aside, it would be fabulous if the L-Alliance allowed for Dual-IS functioning for their L-mount lenses regardless of which party in the alliance made the lens! "Dual/Lens/Body/Off" switches for all! Huzzah! LOL Hope that helps, 🙂 -Jimmy G
  13. Hi all, My heart goes out to everyone whose livelihood depends on this technology, tough, nay, difficult and challenging times, indeed. Being "just a retired fellow who likes to play with cool toys and try and make something with them" my biggest hit during the pandemic was having to sandbag my night college FCPX class this past spring when in-class learning turned into an attempt at virtual learning...I imagine I took an incomplete on it, haven't had the heart to check. (sigh) I would very much like to retake the course when the campus reopens and I feel that the pandemic is on the wane and I can get tested for the antibodies to determine whether I should get a vaccine or not. My hopes and expectations (here "in the States") is that our new administration will prove more competent and honest in dealing with this pandemic than the previous one and, in those regards, things are looking hopeful. In the meantime, after a fraught year of worry for my immune-compromised daughter and S.O. (and countless friends and loved ones) I'm just beginning to get my head back into my nature/wildlife shooting and have reinvigorated my day-by-day commitments to "just get out there" and put myself in the way of beauty (as the film says!) and grab some footage and stills. It's proved to be good medicine, too easy (it sadly seems) to have been able to allow depressiveness and worry keep me on the couch. I wish everyone future success with their own personal challenges. My biggest challenge since getting "back out" is dealing with those (sometimes-indignant) non-mask-wearing folks who've allowed themselves to be fooled into thinking that doing so has been some grand conspiracy to rob them of their civil liberties. Losing one's life and/or becoming gravely ill because of the carelessness of others is an attack on one's civil liberties, sad to discover that this conversation is actually necessary, so, I've taken to politely asking that they do so. Unfortunately, a few local businesses (deli, laundromat, etc.) have been lax in abiding by our State's (NY) Covid requirements and I've had to have conversations with those proprietors as to why they will not see me in their places of business any further...this pandemic has been an education in seeing how others show respect for their neighbors, and in the case of business owners, their patrons and employees and their own families. All that said, my mental/emotional state has seen a marked upswing since becoming active again, as has my physical health...something to be said for fresh air and sunshine and a sense of purpose and desire! Haw! Best to one and all, 🙂 Jimmy G P.S. Thank you author Cheryl Strayed for the words... WILD: "Sunset" - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ALJfFmwWwU

    Panasonic GH6

I remain bullish on Panasonic's camera offerings moving forward despite industry delays due to the pandemic. Their investment and commitment to organic sensor technology (hoping we'll soon see its performance abilities during this year's Olympics in Japan) and their public statement that this sensor technology will find its way into the GH line and consumer lines after that event speaks to me of exciting times ahead. (I do not expect the previously mentioned Sony sensor to find its way into a GH6, but rather, find use in a new superzoom and single-FL M43 camera to replace the FZ- and TZ-lines.) In particular is the organic sensor being so light sensitive that we'll be having to adjust our sensibilities and processes to getting used to applying negative sensor gain rather than the current paradigm of having to add gain (better ISO performance in a GH6 than is currently found in the S-lineup, anyone?!). Also, of bonus, is the incorporation of an electronic variable-ND filter built into the sensor itself...so no worries about space constraints with the shutter box to fit in some sort of mechanical ND apparatus! And, finally, my most-requested feature, global shutter! (That only took nearly 50-years! Haw!) 🙂
  15. Based on the link below, I'm thinking that the conversion from FCP7>FCPX is not a necessary step, seems that the FCP7 XML file should import into PPro with a few caveats (mentioned in link)... Fuji X-T4

Not sure what's going on with the IBIS in this video, but I had to stop watching after a couple of minutes because the frame edge wobbling was giving me a headache (from Levi Allen using a "loaner model")... 18. Hi Ki Rin, I bookmarked the following 2 links some time back when shopping the Panasonic platform as a "next choice" (after trying to work on the Sony Alpha platform and being generally disappointed with settling for 8-bit image data). Caveat: Now, I haven't tried any of the following procedures as I've yet to dip my toes into HLG but, again, I bookmarked this information to reference to when that time comes for me. First up is Jeff Worley, of CRFTSHO, generously performing a hands-on tutorial for setting up for HLG in DaVinci Resolve 12.5 (a bit dated, I know, but hopefully this translates well for the current v.16.2?) cued to the 1:46 mark... 19. Hi all, Still waiting to see what my college is going to do with our lab-intensive FCPX class (I could do my assignments from home but I fear that the majority of my fellow students need to do their homework on campus). In the meantime, just acquired a colorimeter and will be working on finally getting my monitors properly calibrated. Also looking to do color-correction testing on my cameras using the X-Rite Video ColorChecker that came with the kit. Continuing pre-assignment work on my student project and preparing my shotlist along with a variety of scripting ideas (choices) I've worked out for the footage. Other than that, we're keeping up on our antivirals (Garlic, Ginger, Oregano and Turmeric) along with some serious anti-oxidant dosing (gotta love that Vitamin-C) and keeping tabs on my immune-compromised at-risk family members. Relieved (as much as is possible with this situation) that the ECDC makes note that part of their "Discharge Criteria" is a "Serology: appearance of specific IgG when an appropriate serological test is available." test which indicates that a healthy immune system can mount a proper defense... Discharge criteria for confirmed COVID-19 cases - COVID-19-Discharge-criteria.pdf: https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/sites/default/files/documents/COVID-19-Discharge-criteria.pdf ...all the more important that we all do our part and protect the elderly and those with pre-existing immune-compromising health conditions so as to not overwhelm our health care systems, but, more importantly, to keep the at-risk out of harm's way. Of gravest concern (and what gives me nightmares most) is the lack of proper facilities globally to deal with a >1% CFR (mortality rate), which would mean...for an unchecked spread that for every 100,000,000 million people infected there would be 1,000,000 dead. Case-in-point, here in the U.S., we are woefully under-prepared for anything of that magnitude with "96,596 ICU beds" within our system currently available (as reported today by The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) here)... SCCM | United States Resource Availability for COVID-19: https://www.sccm.org/Blog/March-2020/United-States-Resource-Availability-for-COVID-19 Please stay healthy and take care, one and all, and do what you can to help protect the at-risk population from falling victim to this virus. 20. Looks like the ghosting artifacts (temporal noise reduction) that plagued the S1 (and were fixed in firmware) are still plaguing the S1H (posted yesterday by Gerald Undone)... 22. Thanks! I was knee-deep in my above post when you posted that, thanks for the heads up! :)
  23. Hi parthshah, and welcome to the forums! When it comes to "first gear choices" (or "any gear choices" for that matter! ha!) best (IMO) to try and identify what one is trying to accomplish that isn't being served with their current gear and then examine which solutions best solve the most problems... Case 1: I needed a lightweight camera that would fit in a shoulder sling bag along with binoculars and other day hike items that could shoot from wide to tele...so I shopped superzoom cameras and grabbed a used FZ1000 when one popped up. Case 2: Wanted to shoot birds and wildlife in poor lighting environments so I went from a Canon 30D to a 5D Mark II...fell in love with the video abilities of the 5D and then wanted a 4K camera that offered the same...went to a Sony a6300, then a7SII and hated the ergonomics, [erformance and color of both...enter a Panasonic S1. Case 3: Wanted to shoot high-speed (slow motion) video with audio like my iPhone 5S, still searching for a "best solution" but settled on an iPhone 8 Plus with 240fps HD with audio for now. ...my point here being (for your consideration), in each scenario I had a clear vision of what I was trying to do. So, the question I'm suggesting that you ask yourself is, "just what are my needs or desires here when it comes to imaging?". I'm suggesting that the better you can identify what you'd like to be doing next the clearer the path will be towards your solutions. So, based on what you've briefly shared, you're looking for an outdoors, ready-for-the-elements, lightweight (for hiking), non-interchangeable lens (trust me, you do not want to be changing lenses while out on the trails all day! ;) ), rugged, wide angle to perhaps moderate-zoom camera? I'll toss in, make sure it can shoot in Manual Mode (i.e. exposure settings) and that it can meter relatively well if you truly want to "step up your game". Plugging in values for 1" sensor, Full Manual Mode and Spot Meter yields 47 camera choices here... Camera feature search: Digital Photography Review : Digital Photography Review: https://***URL removed***/products/search/cameras#criterias=SpecsSensorSize%2CSpecsExposureModesSearch%2CSpecsMeteringModesSpotSearch&paramSpecsSensorSize=OneInch&paramSpecsExposureModesSearch=manual-exposure&paramSpecsMeteringModesSpotSearch=Yes ...refine and change parameters to your heart's content! :) Hope that helps, and keep us posted. :) Jimmy G
  24. Comparing Closed Cases is an even-worse examination of the data points (provided at the same link), if one scrolls down that page one will see that the Active Cases # tally has been omitted from your posted image (from the same page) tallies/computations. However, there is one instance on that list that will qualify as a closed case study when all is said and done, Diamond Princess... ...696 Total cases with 7 deaths, 325 Recovered, 364 Active, 32 Serious/Critical (as of this posted image above). Worst-case scenario that all of the 32 Serious Cases turn fatal would bring the total deaths to 39 yielding a calculable Death Rate of 5.6% for that specific population (however, ages and health unknown). With a recovery rate of 50% for that group the total would be 23 Total Deaths, yielding a Mortality Rate of 3.3%. And if the recovery rate for that group is 75% the Total Deaths come in at 15 yielding a Rate of 2.1%, again, patient ages and health prior to infection would yield more-informative statistical analysis. Hope that helps.
  25. Using your link's above posted data of 4749 ÷ 129,604 yields a mortality rate of ~3.66%, slightly updated numbers but yielding the same statistical result. Again, both results based on global under-sampling. Your link's Mortality Rate link...
