  1. I've seen many good comments about the LS3000 in the past. With built-in ND, etc. At $2K it doesn't seem that bad, but in the world of Fuji XT-3 and surely soon XH-2 I wonder if it makes sense anymore. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1096581-REG/jvc_gy_ls300_4kcam_handheld_s35mm.html

    DJI Phantom 5

Yep, it's sure looking like that.

    DJI Phantom 5

There are some rumors of the Osmo being released. The camera of the Inspire is rather nice, and it's possible that DJI is thinking about diversifying their business a bit more and ensure they have a market outside of the drone business should regulations destroy their business future.

    DJI Phantom 5

Looks like DJI has a Nov 28 media event with all signs pointing to a Phantom 5, https://dronedj.com/2018/11/12/dji-event-because-life-is-big-phantom-5/ I wonder if ProRes RAW will be included or not.
  5. Andrew. How are you white balancing your shot, btw?
  6. For me the Z7 seems to have the best auto WB. I wish Max would use some gray cards set the the best custom WB for these cameras. As is, I think Z7 has the best color.
  7. @Andrew Reid A few things to read between the lines. "and of course more battery power" I'm betting Sony needs a new body design to deal with internal heat. They will throw in a new battery possibly to justify a larger a body and make it look like it was all to appease the customers. The new body is there to provide a much longer batter life or something like that. Seeing how Sony was able to create model after model, I'm guessing they're not that far behind as you suggest and they already have something they're testing and by NAB they will have a camera to show. The only unresolved issue might be if Sony decides to go for a new mount. I'm guessing there are probably internal discussion to jump to a new mount that is compatible with E using adapters but enables them to provide a class leading IBIS. If I was to speculate, I would guess there are engineers and marketing/business people sitting around and debating this topic. Maybe they would call it E+ mount.
  8. still cost money to buy food for the crew, rent a bigger place to house them during the shoot and there is additional location cost, etc. So it's not zero budget. But yes, I'm not paying money to anyone and they understand.
  9. it's a work of passion, just something I wanted to do. but if some one likes the short and they want to invest money to turn the short in to a 90 min project, then I'm fine with that. I just wanted to create something that I had in my mind and turn it to reality and not look back one day and tell myself I wish I had done that. So this is mostly something to do, so I can avoid having regrets in the future. I got lucky and met a talented actress who brought another actress that they worked together. So the cast is going to be solid. So far, they like the script I wrote. So as long as I don't mess it up, it might be half decent or sow mething that I wont be embarrassed to show to friends. Of course, I would love to enter a few festivals just to show what I've done and if it goes anywhere form there, the more the better. BTW, @Andrew Reid - I'm planning to shoot the entire thing with your profile (Sony A7Riii). So if you have any advice for color balancing, etc. would appreciate it outside of your PDF.
  10. Thanks! Is it like a model release or is there something more robust? If you have any links or template to something you've used it would be highly appreciated. Cheers!
  11. Crossing my finger, going to shoot my first short narrative in 2 weeks. It's about a 20-25 minutes long. The project has two main actresses and 2-3 additional voice parts (but they're off the camera). I'll have an assistant who will do the sound and slate. So this is very low budget. The actresses are both professional but will perform for no fee. My question is, what types of legal paperwork should I have the crew sign. Is it just a basic model release work? I must also add I'll be shooting this in Russia. So not sure, if I should get something that is legally binding in Russia or in US, where I hope to enter a few different festivals maybe. I wrote the script myself, but I had a friend translate it into Russian, do I need to get some kind of a release from the translator? Thanks in advance for your thoughtful and first-hand experiences.
  12. @Andrew Reid are you following this rumor that the sensor might actually be from Samsung? https://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/korean-forums-going-nuts-on-rumors-samsung-partnership-with-fuji-and-ricoh-pentax/
  13. @Andrew Reid I've said this in the past. If I was the head of the marketing or PR for a camera company the risk/reward of inviting you and giving you access would not be justifiable. With this post you just made it even a more clear example. There is no upside for them to invite someone like you. I think some camera companies do really want honest feedback so they can improve something, but they also want it in a way that does not embarrass them. You come across as a bit of a "loose cannon". Many of these guys, PR and marketing is their job. It's what pays their rent, pays their kids college tuition, medical bills, vacations, etc. Why should they risk all that so that you and your blog just get more credibility? Yes, @John Brawley was a bit curt to you. But I'm not sure how that should impact your purchasing decision. As a professional DP, at the end of the day, you'll pick the best tool for the job that you your budget allows. I do agree with you, the new Fuji X-T3 is a game changer and at such similar price range, it has advantages, given improved AF (that might actually be useful now), larger sensor and color science. We know X-H2 will probably arrive in another 9-12 months or so, taking X-T3 and adding IBIS on it, making it more useful for some people. But at the end of the day, pros will look at the entire system and if they're shooting something for netflix, etc. BM might be the obvious system to use given their budget and the hobbyist like myself will choose Nikon, Sony or the new Fuji. I think BM could have done a better job perhaps to be more inclusive, but as someone who supports your product and likes your community and wants to help you, my suggestion is that you could have handled it a lot better. It's probably too late now, you probably burned a lot of bridges and scared off more future marketing people. IMHO, at this point, maybe your next option is to brand yourself as the ultimate critical reviewer. Basically the place people come to be warned and see everything they should know about before buying a product. The kind of critical review they do not get on youtube affiliate-marketing driven review business or elsewhere. So market the reason you are not invited is because your reviews are too honest, "too honest to be invited". Hope this is constructive.
  14. Looks like 5D IV sensor same crop on 4K but more focus points https://mobile.twitter.com/thatJordanDrake
  15. You could imagine they would cut into the sales of B-cams for sure. But for pro shooters, you're probably correct. Pros will buy pro tools for the most part. However, probably some portions choose a cheaper camera with the same image quality and spend their savings in lenses, sound and lighting equipment. So for sure, it will have an impact, the question is how much. That said, at the same time you can argue a mirrorless might be like a "gateway drug" to the pro system. So a consumer would start with a mirrorless and canon lenses. Builds a business and when he/she needs to upgrade to a more professional setup, they will stay on the same system base because of the investment in their lenses. So maybe Z6/Z7 will act as a gateway drug and Nikon might decide on producing a pro video system based on their technology and their new lenses. That being said, I can't entirely blame canon and their management team. Everything is still working well and they're making money. Why mess with success. Could they have been far more imaginative. For sure! But everyone is risk averse and no one is going to risk their careers.
  16. Nikon has the freedom of not cannibalizing a video camera lines. If I was Nikon I would make even a more video centric version just to put pressure on Canon and Sony to cannibalize their video product line or even take some business away from them. If they were able to make a larger version with a screen that flipped out and internal recording, perhaps even better IBIS video (approach GH5) they would put so much pressure on Canon.
  17. Actually with the fairly recent Apple's Metal framework for programming GPUs that apple provides (I'm not sure if BM is using that) over what's available one Windows. I'm not sure they will reach parity. But they might. Who knows.
  18. Max just did a comparisons and on Resolve the Mac is killing it.
  19. So looks like at least one DJI product (Maybe Mavic pro II or maybe another model) will have a Dolly Zoom function! I hope this automatic. The zoom changes in proportion to the movement of the drone. Check out the video teaser where they should this:
  20. You're not thinking about EVF and ability to have the option of selecting an APSC 1.5X or even a 2X crop. The EVF will still show you full width but as a shooter you could select 1.5X or 2X crop. Instantly gaining doubling your focal length. Just imagine the combination of the new 500/5.6 lens with ability of doing 1.5X or 2X crop. It'll make a great relatively small and light combination.
  21. I thought about that, of course. But I'm wondering if Nikon is thinking of higher-end model in the future. Maybe a sports version for the 2020 olympics that might get the designation of Z8. Maybe a 45MP sports camera that can shoot like 15-20 fps. That would also might mean the cpu inside might be able to take a 8K video and downsample to 4K or something at 24 fps.
  22. Very interesting how there is a Z6 and Z7. But I wonder if there will be a Z8 planned for next year. I'm just going by Nikons current FF nomenclature we have the 600,700 and 800 camera range. If the Z6 and Z7 are parallel to D600s and D700s, I'm wondering if Nikon is keeping the Z8 for something they plan, if they're keeping their options open, or maybe Z8 already had too many brand with conflicting names in the market. https://nikonrumors.com/2018/08/13/breaking-nikon-z6-and-z7-full-frame-mirrorless-cameras-and-three-lenses-coming-on-august-23rd-z-noct-nikkor-58mm-f-0-95-lens-to-be-announced-later.aspx/
  23. As others have said it, Leica is probably the most likely candidate here. Some had suggested 2020 means the Tokyo Olympics. But the only players with the large enough lens catalogue for anything that is sport related and fast are Canon, Nikon and gradually Sony. No other player can catch up with the lenses for the full-frame market that could be of any value for the olympics and I don't think that's market Leica wants to be in, anyways. For Leica it makes sense to use a completely different sensor even if the lowlight performance will not be as good as the sony-based rivals. Leica buyers want something different and they will get it with this sensor. I do believe with the A7iii and potentially a6700 Panasonic and Olympus are going to face some market challenges. Especially on their high-end products. Soon they will be squeezed out of the market.
  24. @IronFilm we can see what it looks like: https://web.facebook.com/nrblog/photos/a.231447226921718.57510.125758010823974/1776993469033745/?type=3&theater
