Coming shortly - more Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN sample footage. All screen shots HLG, SOOC. (click on images to enlarge)

Wow, what a nice framing at No1!

I decided to let go the Sigma 18-35mm. Even though it's sharper, but the images is flat, lack of the sense of space

This. Searching for effect of ultimate possible "sharpness" at wide open, Sigma lens constructors leveled image with string of correcting operations - some sort of subtle plastic surgery.

  2. Two days ago, in other topic I've already said that clue is the title.

But now I suspect that - regarding his profound insiders insights/informations, eastern spiritual/teleportation relationship and searching for tight connection with best anamorphic lens - creature/being in robotic scafander is Jon himself.

  3. Thank you DBounce for advice and will to test/share experience with Atlas lenses - but weren't we all started by being fooling around (but keeping some money in pocket) :) Previous discussion, of course, is not just about the best anamorphics.

I just had and have SLR Magic Hyperprimes and Voigtlanders, also and Leica R - don't know anything about anamorphic offer. I think that Neumann has a short film anounced here done with GH5 and SLR Magics. (BTW m43 Voigtlanders are Leica R quality - or, better, vice versa.)

  4. About big announcing.. It seems that Neumann's already have touch with it, and already gave a clue. I'd not exclude possibility that even given name of their project has some connection with mysterious Big - it it some sort of the Middle Path, witch on second instance is further clarified - something  ***** ****  that is used to make A Short. So, it has to be a camera.

    @Jon

Interestingly, I could quote SLR Magic Anamorphot cine line at quite contrary direction - we can see what is the newest arround-NewYear prize for their (SLRMagic's) 10mm and 25mm Hyperprimes at BHphoto: 40% less than "normal" - so they have a markup margin probably near 60%, maybe even near 70% of initial asking prize. Apply this simply calculation on new Anamorphot line - for the next Christmas it may be 8-9000$. So, I've don't bet that production cost of anamorphic lenses is THAT high: fact is that till now its market was reserved for studio works and rare demands put production on handmade level. But Panasonic change the panorama of potential users dramatically.

Have you got any idea how much a PanLeica anamorphic would cost?

Yes, but if it even more bettered selling of their topline m43 cameras - fulfilling most demanded dreams of indie filmmakers - wouldn't be that step not so out of logic from commercial/branding point of view? I don't know, but isn't it also obvious that markup margin for Panasonic is greatly higher than for small company lens makers? So, if Panaleica 42.5 has production cost of, say, 500 $, maybe some similar anamorphic lens wouldn't be more than 1000$? Or I'm too naive...

  6. Because if Panasonic polish every single camera aspect as shooting tool, and polish them all at once - there will be no room for others. Fact that brands that we are discussing are almost exclusively Japanese is not insignificant. But it seems to me that Panasonic still is grandmaster between all polisher. Finally, if Panasonic suddenly make every single wish perfected, there will be no reason more for us to meet each other at eoshd - which, I'd say, will inevitable turn mother nature furiously against camera makers.

  7. Oh, I'll be impressed only if Jon secretly, and without any announce in advance, adopt some of your vampire content inclination, and as result, in next test shot, we suddenly see Vietnamese beauties in the same zombie state (and, of course, by night - I really don't remember any Jon's night shot). And me personally will be full of  delight if this content deliberation would be made with assistance of Atlas anamorphic lenses. THAT will be wow positive influence - or, so to say, vampiresque blood mutation - of this marvelous site!

(And if Mercer post the same attempt with row sound of his canon... but about that dream I must only make a whispering... he is sometimes so serious :) - but, seriously, I'd also like if GH5 has resulting image of canon ML raw seductiveness.

BTW I'm origine of Hopy Indians - and, Panny, as you know, our time is not as other's - so probably and mine so-called smartness in some reverence mind. But one day I'll certainly shot movie about that deep reflective topic, and being - as you are shure - so deeply impressed with your last polaroid thanks so sincerely and frankly adressed to me - I think I'll choose some other color style.

  8. @PannySVHS

You are welcome, pleasure is mine. Your vampire shorts are on a trait for lovely-freely homo-ludens and schizo fireworks - so please, keep going on.

Of course it was compliment. In your last sample, colors are not at all - at least for me - great, balanced, accurate, neither thought-out or minimalistic: for me at least they are, simply, retro trash and tend to follow short's bizare atmosphere of psychodelia.

But eoshd looks sometimes to me as really funny place of an especial sort of sanatorium: for curing ours childish wish to act as big conneseurs, competent and important judges, and participant in game You-Milk-Me-I-Milk-You as aspiring cameraman role.

Saying that, once more I vote for Jon's buying Atlas lens(as) and for Mercer's (Glen?) buying another hundred of lenses (for planting them around his countryside so becoming mythical place of great obsession). Lets our West-East moderator guru bravely steps in front of bankrupcy and be feeded in hungriness by his Vietnamese Dulcineas!

    Why?

Because from West side one so-so wise man, S. J, said as ultimative advice: Stay hungry, stay foolish.

And from East side, one wise man, A.T, said: Let someone shout that pyramids should be built! Even if we do not build them, it is important to nourish the great dream!

You see how boring and funny-in-fiasco-attempt  pathetic I am? So please, laugh at me... and shoot more polaroid extravaganza pretending to expect appraisal as they are great color achievements!

Do you have a link to your Arri color science, short film trailer?

Unfortunately, I do not at all have a taste... For hopeless cases as mine, even Arri couldn't do anything!

  10. I'm dying just because Mercer couldn't shoot the same scene focusing on mr Pinky Cheek with his Canon 5m mk3 and show us in raw comparative result.

Besides that dying, both looks looks nice to me, both between-exchangeable with little grading/sharping effort.

I still fantasize about cameras but instead of buying them, I just go and shoot...

Well, it is so reputable solution... happily, there are some brave and silly hazardous men that go behind the legendary dreamy eastern boundaries, searching for holy lens Grail of whom nobody yet know if it really exist... only rumors are whispering some mythical name, like Veydra or Atlas... but at least one is certain: its mesmerizing image grow bigger and bigger in a dream of brave men...

Resist the temptation, Jon. For the money of the Atlas, you can buy a C200 or EVA1.

Please, don't listen Mercer, Jon! He is just one reputable clever and prudent voice of Canon EOS3 sapience - i.e. voice of that entity from which you already escaped :)

I humbly vote for your acquisition - as soon as possible - of Atlas bazookas and panoramic-wide view of Far East beauties of every age. Seriously - because your joy in testing lenses is so contagiously and refreshingly rejuvenating!

  13. Wow, at one moment it sounds to me as an love letter to a faithful dear (lenses) from an experienced, grown masculine mind!

I'd try also and add: they called to be tenderly cradled as serene babies - these zoom sigmatwins - to whom they so much look like by size/weight and unobstructive, unscreaming-lowdly serenity.

  14. Just impressionistic remark: dedication to polishing products and willingness to go further in democratizing art/hobby of movie making is - as it seems to me - higher by high margin in Panasonic than anyone else in respective field. Combining with extremely solidness of Panasonic cameras, it made impression of reliability and psychologically call to participate in pursuing this very clever thought game of step-by-step doze searching for ideal instrument. Sometimes, prosumer sector of Panasonic produce to me impression as Blackmagic on steroids. Which is nice. They will find a way to make and to offer reliable autofocusing - after precise calculation of market urgency for that. (I think that even now engineers in Panasonic have prediction of additional moves for several years further.)

  15. @Terry Lee

Don't know - at the moment I use Lens Turbo with two Zeiss Distagons. Even at largest aperture I have to use some sort of lowering contrast intervention in post - these lenses are so punchy, but no at digital way. Also, any special flare issue I didn't see in compare with Metabones.

Panny 42.5 1.7 is really very capable lens for the price and size - I've already suggest to imacreath not to sell that one, neither 15mm 1.7.

But all native autofocusing lenses for me have too obvious videoish effect - what we simply call sharpness, is in fact panasonic intensive internal software base work. For wedding it may just work. So I'm very interested for kidzerecil usage of Tiffen Mist and Sattin fillters...

BTW your samples are indeed very (over)contrasted and (over)saturated for my humble taste. But perhaps it has to be such for accentuating special purpose as wedding is... or is supposed to be.

  16. That's nothing new and superwise - Leica still borrow its status from time when mechanical precision and craftmanship was the most important for signification of value.

As every handscraftmanship it once upon a time had semi-artistic dignity and it had to be respected as such and - payed.

Now, as all we know, times changed. Leica has to buy outer software and processor knowledge - new heart of photo-video items instead of pure mechanical precision and solidness - and precision per se is just matter of calculation of investments of every big players know-how equal competence.

Nowaday Leica camera brand depends of minimal user fan base and partially because of that is forced to ask for prices out of logic.

Feeling self as a part of an elite club - that's all, but ofr a time when football players earns million for week, actors of one movie gets year budget of midrange state and printing dollars is out of any control, it is quite normal.

  17. Well, we need better and more experienced eyes than mine to judge - I'm blocked with a view of black pots and pencils as a letter message from death - you know, association of an ash pot and handwrite, or such things... )

I really and just full subjectively - and of course just from provided mages  - like G9 body more than GH5. That secondary screen has special suspense-look when is illuminated. Seriously, I think that quasi erotic pleasure of handling tool is one of the most important aspect in shooting. For me it (G9 screen) look as mobile phone screen that could at the moment be lighten-up and bring to me some sweet and tender message from some unknown beauty... I think that G9 show deep psychological competence of Panasonic construct team - hat down for that mix of romanticism and modernism!

Buttons are, I think, better ergonomically posted too.
