In the comments there are some links etc. Buuuuut, it all seems to have been translated from Chinese so there is probably a lot of room for error!

Looking at the rumours on other sites I think tomorrow might be a lot more positive than some think.

As i'm a freelancer and can discount VAT I buy most of my kit new. Each country and market is different. The Sony A7iv is going for around 1800€ and the Lumix S5ii for around 1300€ on the second hand market here in Spain. That's a decent lens price difference. When I bought the S5ii 2 years ago I got it with the Sigma 28-70 2.8 for 2590€. Discount the VAT and that's hard to compete with in my eyes. I looked at buying Sony but to buy a similar kit (2 cameras, 24-105 f4, 28-70 2.8 and 3 1.8 primes) was double the price.

I keep coming back to price and value. The Sonys are about 50% more expensive. Whilst the price of the new Lumixes seems a bit high for me at present, I'm sure that within a year the have great offers or bundles on all of the new cameras. That's when i usually pick them up. So far Lumix has offered me unbeatable value. I hope that continues.

Specs etc only tell us so much. Let’s see them at work. The thing I don’t really understand is whether they’ll have FF 4k 50p. If they don’t that would be a fatal mistake.

https://latam.connect.panasonic.com/mx/es/productos/lumix/lumix-s1iie According to this it looks pretty interesting although I’m still not too clear on the difference between the models other than a white box.

I'd prefer a compact 24-60 over the 28-70 I have. I find those first 4mm much more useful than the last 10mm

Anyway, I'm interested in this. I think I'm ready for an S line with a dedicated video/photo button, top LCD and EVF and no crop.
-
The rumours are all over the place!!! Who knows what we’ll get. My same wishes apply. 6k 50 no crop, super 3 way lcd and top evf. Faster processing. Happy for a video centric camera but looking for under 3000€ and video/photo switch

Yeah, I don't think you'd see such blind faith in such complete bollocks here. Ever since I was a kid in the 80s I've always thought the glamour, the rock'n'roll, the blockbusters etc was always covering up a dark seething mess of ignorance, power and violence. It's a shame that my instinct was right. The amount of seemingly normal people warbling on about missions from god etc is scary. There seems like a huge disconnect from any reality and people just lap up what they are fed. Of course I realise that half of the US population is sane and probably very scared right now. I really hope they find a way to turn this all around asap without things getting worse.

Fair enough. Who knows what will happen? But I always thought MAGA covered a whole range of people from hardcore nutjobs to others caught up in the moment who upon seeing the results of a MAGA world in reality, might not be so keen on it. Then what do I know? What does anyone know?
-
Yeah, it'll probably start with a police crack down but as BTM-Pix's photo shows there are many armed and dangerous, angry people. Hopefully it doesn't come to that and Republicans in congress etc start reigning in the power they have given Trump before it's too late. Trump literally couldn't give a shit about anything. He is living the narcissist's wet dream. I hope someone is helping him change his underwear every morning.
-
I do see bloodshed as a very possible outcome in the US, there is just so much craziness, so much anger, so many people are going to lose so much and people have guns...I'd imagine that at some point pretty soon the MAGA people will realise they have been swindled by the swindler in chief. The question is what will they do? What will Trump do if they turn on him? Doesn't look good from the outside.

Talking about animals and such like, I think the EU didn't quite get their survival kit right. I'm thinking 1 large dog, 1 angry goat, 3 chickens, loads of matches, a sharp knife and a cricket bat. Hopefully that should see us through the first few weeks after the apocalypse. I won't take a camera as there will probably be little use in documenting everything for no one to watch.

To add to the buy local theme, with food it’s quite easy in some countries but very difficult in others. Here in Spain we can grow stuff all year round, it’s a big empty space and food is relatively cheap and easy to source locally, even in a big city like Madrid. Try that in Scotland, Malta, Egypt, Pakistan or many other countries that rely on global trade to feed their population or provide variety in produce. And that’s just food, which is usually just grown in one place and shipped to another. It’s not like technology which has different parts that come from all over the world to be assembled somewhere and then shipped somewhere else. I have no idea how they are going to calculate how much something is “worth” with so much instability.

Not sure how this is going to affect Spain. What is true is that more expensive goods have increasingly held their value in the second hand market as more and more people can’t afford to replace them with new since Covid. I have a 17 year old Toyota Corolla that I bought for about 3500€ 3 years ago (great car by the way!). It’s got another 40,000km on it and it’s probably worth more now! The camera market is a bit different. 2nd hand cameras have been getting cheaper (apart from some “must have” internet phenomenon cameras) and I’d expect a flood of people selling off gear if the economy starts tanking and prices will initially go down then shoot up when people realise they can only afford second hand gear. Unless Asia dumps all their cameras here at a discount! Spain’s main exports to USA seem to be olive oil, wine and some other products. We could probably do with changing the vast areas dedicated to monocultures as sooner or later they will all be deserts but like everything, changing tack from one day to the next is going to be problematic. The real problem is that no one believes that Trump won’t change his mind again or once he has some beautiful deals, that he won’t turn the screw again.

I think importing through Russia might be your best bet.

Maybe they were going to launch it yesterday but realised the joke wouldn’t be very funny

Strange there is no more news or speculation about this. 🤷🏼

2 Lumix S5mk2 x2 for work. Often one on a tripod connected to sound filming for hours and the other doing B-roll, interviews and photos. Both being the same makes editing easier and quicker.

Personally I’m all for my camera having a warship mode in these troubled times. It’s crazy, everyone is complaining about Panasonic’s lack of innovation yet they were the first to think about adding a warship mode (i hope it’s on the video/photo dial and keeps it’s settings when switching modes), and it seems they are thinking about ditching it because of some random Youtuber focus group or something. P.S. I hope the warship mode doesn’t mean they are going to go back to the heavier models.

What are your feelings about Panasonic S1R II being in the S5 body design?
Thpriest replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I like the S5 type bodies. They are comfortable and ergonomic. Personally I prefer the Lumix look to Canon and Sony (apart from the FX line). I’ve not used the A7RV just the A74 from that line. I prefer the S5mk2 but I’ve mainly used Lumix for years so that could be built in bias due to familiarity. I’d love to have the EVF and fancy LCD from the S1R2on the S5mk2. For me the only way these types of cameras are going to get better ergonomically is to have a rotating grip with controls like the Canon C100 had and a flip up EVF. As for a camera being fun or not, whilst I understand the feeling behind that, for me it’s irrelevant as I use them for work and work only. For “fun” stuff I’d prefer a small m43 or mobile or similar.
