  1. Yep both Nvidia and Intel QuickSync currently they don’t support h265 4:2:2.... Nvidia 20xx platform can do 4:2:0 and 4:4:4 but not yet 4:2:2 Hopefully with more camera using it they will improve. I’m sure even software only the NLE could optimize more. On windows / resolve a i7-9900k can do it software only.
  2. Not supported yet start/stop or any functionality over the usb. You should drop a msg on dji ronin s forum there is a thread about 1dx iii support.... I set that I can start stop with the shutter that is easier to reach
  3. All the 1Dxiii frame rates are 4:2:2 h265 10bit if LOG is ON if LOG is OFF they are 4:2:0 H264..... Did you check the metadata with a tool ?
  4. Yep crazy time so many players and so many choices..... The Nanlite 200 looks cool kind of good compromise between power and transportability..... but 699 usd .... the 300 at 750 usd (currently in discount) is probably a better buy.
  5. You don't lose light as if you lose 2 stop of light then the image will be underexposed by two stop at the same settings ss, aperture and iso between oversampling vs line skipping/binning. If you are oversampling or line skipping the gain on the sensor is the same and so is the aperture and ss for that exposure. In theory you can get more noise with line skipping/binning as oversampling masks some of the noise but at pixel level the noise is exactly the same. On the 1Dx III 1080 FF 120fps binned is for sure not more noisier than 5.5k FF at pixel level, of course if you scale done the 5.5k is sharper and less noisy. So I expect the R5 to be similar but who knows
  6. Why line skipping / binning would you loose light? You may get a less sharper picture, aliasing but you don't lose light. 5.5k 24 fps exposed at 1/250 iso 400 f 2.8 will have the exact same exposure as 1080 120fps line skipping or binning at the same SS, aperture and iso. Of course you need faster ss so instead of 1/60 for 30 fps you would need to go 1/250 for 120 but this is normal and nothing to do with the sensor type and for sure R5 that apparently will be FF 120 will not be any less usable than any other 120 fps camera. The point that crop is better in low light is normally the inverse as any Canon camera so far are more noisier at 1-1 pixel crop than scaled down or pixel binned or line skipping. Just look at the C500 II as an example, the 1Dx III 120 is less sharp but way less noisy (2x crop vs FF). If you want deeper DOF FF is not the camera for you, I want shallower DOF so I can have a look that is different than iPhone. Why do I mention iPhone because is a fairly capable HFR camera (btw I hate filming with phones and iPhone in particular as the workflow is just terrible. Why they don't offer a microSD just to sell you super expensive storage... yes I have an iPhone) So personally I would prefer to shoot 4k 120fps FF with a 50 1.2 at 1.4 than 4k 2x crop at 24mm 1.4..... (ca same framing same exposure different DoF)
  7. RAW does not have log, you select the log type that you want to process on your NLE, in resolve you can select the various logs including Clog2 or go directly to BT 709. So same clip can be outputed in Clog2 and Clog3 etc... the 500 II should be the same for RAW. If you select a log type on C500 II I expect that is metadata added to RAW that Resolve will pick up but you can change it at anytime. Proxy are affected by the log setting so if it is on you will get 4k 10bit h265 Clog if off you get 8 bit h264 no log. But you will not get Clog2 in the proxy. To make things more complex the log setting also control the RAW highlight protection and minimum iso. You have 3 settings log off (min iso 100, no hl protection, less noise) D+ (min iso 200 some hl protection, potentially more noisy) Log on (min iso 400, max hl protection, more noisy). In chapter 3.4 is explained how RAW, proxy and log settings affect the capture https://downloads.canon.com/nw/camera/products/eos/1d-x-mark-iii/resources/Canon_EOS_1DX_Mark_III_Video_White_Paper.pdf (joke mode on: I hope this link is allowed here 🙂 joke mode off) At least I would wait for the official announcement that hopefully it would give some details like if it has crop mode or not etc... my plan is to wait a few review and if it is good add it remote camera for photo (mostly ice hockey net cam and horse show jumping) and B or A video with the 1Dx being my main action camera and A or B video depending which one is better.

The 2k 120fps is not better than the 1Dx III 120fps quite soft 😞
  9. A team normally have 1 photog and 1-2 video guys. Being able to do both at the same time will reduce the crew at least of 1 person. Being on the same spot and doing video and photo at the same time is a big cost saving and you can cover more locations and time of the day. As with car you normally pan with slower shutter speed most of the time then you can really have the best of both on on 1 or 2 passes. As there are 160 teams the coverage that you get from TV is fairly limited so for sponsors and social media etc. most of the team have a media team dedicated. So delivering a high quality video and still out from the same 15-20 second clip is a big plus. Btw is nothing new that photo was taken 2017 and near me was a video guy with a RED doing exactly this video and photo at the same time.... but he had to MF something that I don't even wanna try...
  10. 1Dx II, 200-400, 1/100 The above is a good example of one of my uses case by shooting video 5.5k at 1/100 I would be able to deliver some pictures at the same quality plus a short clip of that segment for the video. As the track is very long the car of the team that you follow pass by only every 8-9 minutes so I do two passes and move to another turn to get another perspective. Doing two jobs in one. The mtb shoots are 5.5k screen grabs taken in resolve 5.5k timeline, only canon lut applied clog2 to rec709 For me I take AF with bad RS than just good RS. But they could at least offer you the choice by going “turbo” when in manual focus mode. For me I would prefer to have AF on 5.5k 60 than better rolling at 30..... but gettin AF at 60 would solve the issue at 30😂 I owned 1D iii, iv, x, xii and now xiii so the price that I used to pay for just a sports camera it give s me a good video camera too.
  11. I know I will get flamed 😂 But to be fair he is pointing out that they will get a camera to test the RS and DR as they do with many cameras. Until it is done and published is just a fate thing but at least it seems there is the intention. It could be that without you this would not have happened so you have a point, although the RS was not measured by you but by slashcam. You also mention that you don't see a RS issue with the GFX 100 and yet it seems to have a RS of 28ms (all to be validate by multiple source ideally)...... somebody could argue the same no? You did not measure RS on the GFX 100, he did not on the 1Dx III. Other have done it, you trust some others trust others etc.. There are not many site left that really test RS and DR and yes we can argue for hours that the tests are not perfect but as they have some consistency is better than nothing. We should glad that there is some kind of "conflict/competition" between you guys as it pushes you to really check all the details..... 😉
  12. Problem is that on youtube in theory is easy to monetize the content so everybody has or is switching from text/blog to yt...... where the first to put out the content normally wins..... so the name of the game is get hw from manufacturer early than the release, do a quick review mentioning is the greatest thing on earth (so you get device again) and post it 1ms after ND is lifted. Me personally I hate video review especially the ones reading the spec sheet and some even without having the hw yet. For the same item there are gazillions of review so is super hard to find a quality one. And for camera judging quality on a yt video is just impossible. On the other side of the spectrum some athlete for example, in way less known sports, they can make good money by creating compelling content based on great athletic performances. Same for some musician and so on.... there is really some great made compelling content but in a jungle of total c...p. Bandwidth and storage are soo expensive that nobody can really compete with these giants and once the service is free or you get even some money to post why using something else..... I wish there would be at least 1 competitor in this area......

If the image quality DR and AF is good it seems like a cool camera for the price. Wish it had CFexpress instead of CFast
  14. I don't have a better example with me right now but this was a test 400mm 1/50 24fps, the water fountain on the back would be a bit bended but with the blur as you are panning in the same direction you barely notice it. I have a better example in the forest but not we me at the moment.
  15. On tracking/panning fast object at 1/50 24fps you will not see rolling shutter because the motion blur will hide the RS issue. I track mtb at (200-400 +1.4) 560mm and I have zero problem with RS. Is really unstable platform or back and forth movements that shows up. I have more problem on a horse show jumping parkour as you move back and forth and the obstacles as they are vertical they tend to be bended.... Btw I did cover the 24h of Nürburgring for teams multiple years so I'm familiar with motorsport.
  16. Why somebody would buy a 6.5k camera if he is not interested in FF, AF and more important photos.... buy a C200 that is a better fit for video other than maybe gimbal work. The strange thing that GFX 100 at 10k usd has only up to 30fps with also not great rolling shutter is a great video camera and 1Dx III that has 60fps, RAW, crop and ff mode, good RS in crop and 60fps is bad and too expensive. Make no sense to me. GFX 100 is the same as the 1Dx III that is first a great photo camera that can also take great video. But for both if you have zero interest in the photo part both make no sense for the price even if they would have a RS of 7 ms...... R5 and R6 are probably priced better for most of the user here but they will also have compromises as every camera on the market. I'm sure there will be 1 thing missing or bad and then the irrational will start again. I remember the same when 1Dx II was launched...... truth is that if you need great video AF and 60fps (as I really do) almost 4 years later there are not many choices.....
  17. I’m talking about FF camera sensor. Speedbosted camera they don’t have a FF sensor.
  18. Quick google search https://***URL not allowed***/panasonic-s1h-lab-test-dynamic-range-and-rolling-shutter-results/ https://***URL not allowed***/canon-c500-markii-lab-test-dynamic-range-latitude-rolling-shutter/ https://***URL removed***/reviews/fujifilm-gfx-100-review/2 https://www.slashcam.de/artikel/Test/Sony-PXW-FX9---Vollformat-Bildqualitaet-fuer-Broadcast-und-Cinema---Rolling-Shutter---Dynamik--Belichtungsspielr.html
  19. Reality check on hybrid FF camera RS that can do at least 10bit: 1Dx III 5.5k and 4k 50-60fps, 16ms SH1 4k, 24.2ms GFX100, 28ms SH1 6k, 29.7ms 1Dx III 5.5k and 4k , 32ms I'm I missing other 10bit hybrid cameras? Bottom-line currently on FF you get a bad rolling shutter with any 10bit camera..... The only frustration is why if you put in MF the sensor cannot switch to 16ms as in 60fps......
  20. So if you don't need RAW or 5.5k but you want FF, AF and 10 bit, good for you as there are many more alternatives (exactly 3 🙂 ): - FX9 11'000 USD, 21 ms RS - C500 II 16'000 USD, 16 ms RS - C700FF 33'000 USD Suddenly 6500 USD camera is almost a bargain ..... but yeah RS in FF with AF is bad, no ND, no XLR, etc.... You don't need AF then you have a few more choices below 6'500 usd (exactly 1) - SH1 (at 6k the rolling shutter is not great either, 29.7!!, and at 4k 24.2). If you don't need AF the SH1 is a better camera for video for sure... The reality on this forum is that people expect any camera vendor to offer C500 II spec + 4k 120fps of the C300 III but on FF + the image quality and DR of an Alexa with some kind of lossless fantasy RAW compression 20:1 on really cheap SD cards in a Sigma Fp fan less submergible body with an on body battery that last 12h and a 10'' inch screen and should be below < 2000 USD 🤣😂 and with a coupon with a guarantee to win the Oscar.
  21. Fair and honest review! To nip tick comparing used vs new prices is not really representative as in a few months there will be some 1Dx III used so then the gap will be different. You like a lot the GFX 100 that seems a really good camera and probably targeting the opposite audience than the 1Dx III (high res MF sensor vs low res sport camera)... I'm not up-to-date at all on GFX 100 but isn't the RS quite bad there too like 28ms or so? The data rate at 5.5k 60fps is 10%-20% than a RAW cinema camera so not that bad but yes they are huge. As comparison at 60fps on a 512 GB card you get 26 min for the 1Dx (5.5k), 30 min for the C500 II (5.9k) and 33 min for RED (6k) 7:1, BM (6k )(194 MB/s at 24fps) if it would be 60fps would be around 30min too..... high res RAW are big. C500 II the ratio is fixed on RED and BM you can go higher compression but at least on RED people seems not to go higher that 1:7 - 1:9.... komodo will be 30min HQ and 50 min LQ but 39 fps so if it would do 60fps would be in the same ballpack. RAW is definitely not for everyone....
  22. I do mostly sports/action so not sure is helpful my experience. I use 1Dx III quite a bit on a Ronin S and if I want shallow DOF I use 50 1.2 and 24 1.4 so the mode that I pick is 5.5k 24 or 25 and on a gimbal I never notice the RS. I did track so far Parkour, MTB, Horse, rollerblades and never notice RS issue. If I don't need shallow DOF and/or need wider I use the 16-35 and f5.6 or above so I then switch to 5.5k 60 fps to have slow motion. In case I need both I use 4k 60fps crop. As you have the 1DC the weight size is about the same so you know what it means on a gimbal plus you are used to MF so using 1Dx III 5.5k 50-60 is not an issue for you. The big question is how are the 4k FF 25,60 and 120 modes of the R5... if they are very good I think the R5 is even better than the 1Dx III....... if the FF 4k modes are binned and not super quality then the 1Dx III is better especially if you need 50-60 fps.... R5 advantage over 1Dx III (mostly guesses😞 - less weight - flippy screen (not too helpful on a gimbal but is good to have) - zebra - 8k vs 5.5k - quite cheaper disadvantages: - less battery life - 60fps max out at 4k, if binned it will be less quality too - if it has a 1-1 crop it will be 2x - larger file size in RAW - no RAW > 30 fps - probably no dual card video recording (on 1Dx III the only dual recording mode is when in RAW.... as it does RAW in one card and whatever 4k mode you select on the other (from 8bit h264 to 10 bit h265 LOG). If you are not in a hurry I would wait the first reviews hopefully will be in July .... and if you are undecided maybe rent both....
  23. Please read a sensor specification sheet. In sensor’s specification there is the scan time / fps for every mode, windowed and not. Some they mention in ms some they mention in fps with comma precision eg. 128.21 fps.... go check some sensor specs. Even in single shoot mode the RS stay the same and you have all the time to process the photo buffer. So A9 sensor is more than twice as fast to scan ca 6-7ms than the 1Dx iii ca 16ms. But Canon can process 60 fps almost full res 17:9 where Sony not so an educated guess the processing power of the 1dx iii is > A9 but sensor readout is exactly the inverse.
  24. This is why 1Dx III is not a mirrorless they don't have a sensor with that fast read out but the A9 sensor has other problem like less DR also no fast mechanical shutter (led panels are problem in stadium) and also have really limited video modes. Crippled or tech who knows? Personally for sports I prefer OVF, I tried quickly a colleague A9 on a pro hockey match and I did not like the EVF. I had more problem following the action but maybe using it for a couple of games I would get used.... Probably a mix.... finally trying to do their best and not cripple but also they don't have a quantum leap on sensors tech that people are dreaming of..... thinking that Canon would come out with a FF 8k 30fps RAW with great RS DPAF with super sampled 4k 120fps DPAF at 4000 USD is a day dream when their 6 months old 6K FF cinema camera cannot do 4k 120fps..... and no other competitor has similar spec even on the most expensive cinema line I'm really curious to see what R5 will bring the good and bad...
