  1. Not sure how it is done with h265.... today I will try the 4k 30, 4k 60 all-i and ipb and 5.5k RAW 30 and 60 of my 1Dx III on my new machine and report back
  2. The optimization are for RAW! I just updated by notebook and I will re run some test with the 1Dx III files but as I wrote multiple times in multiple topics currently no HW acceleration from Intel or Nvidia for h265 10bit 4:2:2 so you need a really powerful PC..... Also you are probably testing 4k 120fps so is 4 times the processing needed than 4k 30fps......
  3. You need to disable intel quicksync in the preferences of Resolve at least on Windows. H265 4:2:2 10bit are not HW accelared at the moment by Intel and NVIDIA only 4:2:0 of 4:4:4 As I never had a camera with IBIS can it be turned off (I think so)? And what is the effect on a gimbal when off?
  4. Did download the 4k 120fps 10bit files and played around and is not oversampled detailed but for 120fps is really really good, I did not expect this. Btw BM just released Resolve 16.2.4 with perf optimization for 1Dx and R5 RAW.
  5. is in the description and you can even download the originals 4k 120 10 bit
  6. They could have created a battery grip with fan and give the choice to users.... and even make more money
  7. 1Dx III only in RAW you can save a proxy in the other card (can be 4k 10bit or 8bit as you want). Non RAW are one card only.
  8. Or they don't overheat because they don't offer internal >4k RAW or 4k 120fps? The sensor and cpu of the newly released A9II cannot even do 60fps...... or more than 8 bit.... so not sure what are you comparing with? FF sensors generates more heat that small sensors like 4/3, gopro , phones etc..... RAW requires CFexpress with really high bandwidth and they become really hot while running highspeed. If I touch mines while on the CFexpress reader (half sticks out and get air so better than in the camera) while copying big files to the PC they get really hot.... So the combination of running at the limit with the sensor, cpu and storage produces a lot of heat and this not due to inefficient components but really running at the limit. The Fx9 needs fan as the C500 II needs one and the 500 II can do internal RAW at 6k and Fx9 only max 4k non raw (yes the one using the amazing Sony components). And both were released at the same time.... so I don't see any prove that Sony cpu / sensors are more heat efficient.... Of course Canon could have put fan on the R5, most photographers would have hated it and imo >80% of the sales will go to photographer but I could be wrong.... Maybe the A7SIII will show this superiority but right now I don't see it....
  9. There are a couple of key things that we need to see by people really using it and not all these yt useless preview of the preview preview 🙂: - 4k 120fps and 8k LOG and RAW, can you continuously do 1-5 minutes takes with a 1-5 minutes breaks in-between without overheating or not? If yes then is probably fine for a lot of people especially because this modes produce huge files so I doubt people will record 3h of 8k RAW in a day anyway, but if after 3-4 takes you need to cool down the camera for 15min then is a major usability issue. - 4k binned quality and RS up to 30fps - 4k binned can the camera shoot all day (restarting every 30 min as any canon dslr so far) If the binned quality is good and there is no overheating and in high quality modes you can take as many short takes as you want then is an ok compromise to get these "super modes". For what I saw so far 4k 120fps seems quite good, of course not like 5.5k 60 from the 1Dx III but a huge increase in quality compared to the 1080 120fps (that is barley usable) of the 1Dx III. RS seems similarly bad as the 1Dx III for the oversampled modes and 8k. RS in 60 and 120 fps is of course good or very good. Did not find yet a binned 4k 30 fps RS example.
  10. As far as I know there is no signal from camera to the mike that recording has started or stopped. On the VP83F you need to press a button to start and stop the internal mike recording. Then synchronizing without a scratch track is more challenging....
  11. Worst case is 16ms at 60p...... above that is physically impossible so 16ms is very good for FF... from the @padam posted video RS in 25p is quite bad similar to 1Dx III but was it oversampled or not?
  12. I did and do tons of filming with 1Dx II before and now 1Dx III so why I should move to a photo forum. If you look in the 1Dx III thread there is tons of info that I provided on the camera and Resolve. I tend to join only threads on stuff that I know and use it. As I use the 1Dx III mostly in RAW I think I can provide info here..... Everybody is talking that RAW is unusable but I find the 5.5K RAW much better and faster to edit that 4k 265 10bit 4:2:2 but only a few here have used 4k 265 10bit 4:2:2 just to give an example....
  13. Are you serious? maybe you should stop posting in a canon r5 thread if is not for your the camera. And if you don't care about the photo part why on earth you don't buy a real cinema camera? suggesting to somebody with more posts and reputation here than you to move out is very rude.
  14. I'm not sure what people expected from a 4k $ camera that the main target are photographers. I bet that 90% of the sales goes to people that mostly do photo and just a bit of video. So let see how many cameras can do 4k 120 fps with AF: -C300 III (11k $) -R5 (4k $) How many cameras can do 4k FF with or without AF: - R5 How many 8k RAW: -RED - R5 8k with AF - R5 At the moment nothing else on the market at any price not even for 100k $, I see the silly comparison with phones etc... but this is the first FF 4k 120fps ever and is kind of affordable. So yes it has 15min limit at 4k 120fps but I take that instead of the alternatives that does not exist. Maybe A7S III but if it has 12mpix is a video only device imo. People should get real, of course with the limitation is not a camera for everybody and is not even a camera target only at filmmaker (Cxx are) so it does not fit you need just move on but saying that is crippled etc.... is just silly. No photographer wants a camera with fan and as the main target are photographers they did not put a fan on it as they have dedicated C line with fan for the long takes scenarios. I do mostly sport and action and have the 1Dx III, I normally need two cameras (for remote) and adding a R5 is almost a no brainer as is a great remote camera at 12 or 20fps, small and with a bonus 45mpix where I can crop a lot if needed (example ice hockey net cam) and give me more lightweight on gimbal and 4k 120fps with AF that for sport/action is really cool. If you would do long interview or very long take I would buy something else. I will wait the more real world reviews and also to be able to play with the files 8k RAW and non and 4k oversampled and binned to real see with my eyes how is the quality and then probably buy one. My biggest wish would be that they were opengate as it would be even better for pulling pictures something that I do a lot out of the 5.5k raw of the 1Dx III, 8k opengate would be really good for me.
  15. I believe he was joking as judging dr by comparing the image on lcds from a yt video with the sh1 at -1 EV and R5 at +0.7 seems the most silly thing ever to do....
  16. Yes, the recording menu of the 1Dx III is a real mess I need to double check every time what I'm on
  17. I agree the no audio in 120fps that is all canon that have 120 is annoying. Audio slowed down sounds bad but maybe you want to decide on post if you want to slow down or simply playback real-time and is annoying that you don't have the audio
  18. would be cool at least in 4k FF 60fps..... but the dream would be for 5.5k raw 60..... even with max time due to overheating like 15-20min. But I doubt.....
  19. gt3rs

    Sony A7S III

Not FF (2.4 aspect ratio only) and not with AF.
  20. Sold mine for 2900 $ in march, 230’000 shutter click probably you can now find them around 2600 $
  21. 1dx iii you mean as it does not have the overheating limits.... similar tech but much bigger body.
  22. I use the ronin s with the 1dx iii and 24-105, 50 1.2, 16-35 2.8 and 24 1.4 with no problem even from boats or even mounted on mountain bike
