    Sony A7S III

Apparently is not continuous in 4k 120p max 30 min before overheating but still on paper the double of R5! On thermal I think the mpixels of the sensor has anyway a big impact so not sure are better is just much less data to handle as all the other A7 series they cannot do 60fps etc... I'm not interested in this camera but it looks like a very solid option let see some real test. Does it has DCI or only UHD?

4k 265 10 4:2:2 IPB up to 30fps on my high end gaming notebook is realtime just not all-i... se my resolve thread. But is all done on the cpu....

    4:2:2 10bit I think are h264 no? h265 are 4:2:0.... but I'm not 100% sure

Although see my thread on Resolve and Canon format h265 10bit 4:2:2 All-I are way slower than IPB does not make any sense but I did try on 3 different PCs and is the same

ZCam are 4:2:0 10bit h265 afaik.... thus HW accelerated on NVIDIA 10xx and 20xx platform....

I agree, If it is h265 4:2:2 10bit will be the same issue and at 600 Mbits max I don't think it will be All-I. Incredible soft I did not see neither, too me it looks really good, A7sIII could be even better view that is a 1-1 pixel readout... but the R5 is for sure not incredible soft. Still for mostly video it looks the A7sIII is a more usable camera.
  7. What is the new information on the video that triggered you to cancel? 15min 120fps is what canon says on their limits so not really surprising no? In addition canon did promise 120 at 1080 as firmware update but we donโ€™t know if it overheats or not. Having used 1Dx ii and now iii at 1080 120fps I take R5 4k 120fps with 15min limit any-day as the 1080 is really barely usable on the 1Dx Still the R5 is a mess for video and no way I would use it as A Cam

Other than the anemic 12Mpix for photo it looks like a very solid video camera. Let wait for some more in depth test and comparison but for video it looks much more usable than the R5......
  9. If using as photo camera for a while will hinder the possibility to use the HQ modes is a big problem. I'm ok that I cannot roll for 1h 8K or 120 but I'm not ok that I can roll only if the camera was not in use and after 30 min is useless. This is not good. I'm ok with limits for my b cam but not if it become a guess work..... One use case that I have is that the camera is in position as remote and I will start and stop recording for 30 sec and then a break of 5 min and so one for 1h.... now if it overheats just staying there switched on is useless
  10. Imo the biggest market is the 5d iii and iv upgrade... 45mpix, ibis, 20fps, 12fps mechanical, smarter af and mirrorless. For sport and wildlife (bif) on paper is really good. 45 mpix is also a good bump for landscape/portrait.... Iโ€™m really intereseted as second camera as remote and b cam for video but I will wait for more reports on the video side. As a cam for video it seems a big risks unfortunately.

I still think 4 120 is external only as the image shows an hdmi plugged in.... hope to be wrong
  12. When in RAW if you set LOG on or off it controls the highlight protection thus the base iso (plus if the proxy 8 or 10bit, but i donโ€™t record proxy) In theory I think with LOG on and exposing to the right you should get more DR but Iโ€™m not sure. Iโ€™m not a DR obsessed so Iโ€™m not the right guy to ask but to me RAW DR seems very close to photo DR in CR3. Maybe I should do a test and compare video RAW 12bit with photo RAW 14bit....
  13. Are you shooting RAW with LOG on or off? I find with LOG on then the base iso 400 is to noisy I find the image better at iso 100 with LOG off. Not sure what mode gives better DR.... Plus I can use a 2 stop weaker ND that helps with the AF

For sport and action I tend to crop a lot and I have a 200-400 1.4x lens so at 560mm it has some reach. I find it already limiting with 20mpx of the 1Dx series.. Going back to 12 is a no go. The minimum goal that we set is to have a picture that fill 4k screens, TV, projectors so ca. 8 Mpix and with 12 Mpix you don't have too much to crop. You also want to have some margin for reframing especially on things that is a one time shoot only. Bud good for you that 12 Mpix is plenty, for a lot of people is very limiting.
  15. It will sell a lot and 90% will be go to photographers.... it will be hard to get one.... 20fps , ibis, 45 mpix , great af, almost same DR as Sony and mirrorless is basically an almost perfect photocamera ... even if video will stop after 10 sec. 80% or more of the sales will not even know what clog3 is....
  16. Why stop there 12.5k raw ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜‚
  17. +1 It would good (I would not bet money on it) that they add CLog3, AF in 4k 60 ff or at least like the R6 uhd 1.1 crop, zebra! and the shooting mode menu. 4k 120 not gonna happen like is not available on the 500 iii....
  18. Did you see my thread on editing perf? h265 10bit ipb are faster and easy to edit than all-i in resolve. Make no sense to me but is like this, tested on 3 different machines same result. So currently I use either RAW or IPB as I hate to transcode or do proxy.....
  19. In the last 10 years I had 1 card failing (could recover something but not all) on me but I had 3 cameras failing so for me is more important a second camera than writing dual card in parallel. I do switch from 1 card to the other to make sure I don't have all in the same card. On the R5 the problem is that the card type are different and on SD you don't have full access to all the recording mode. On 1Dx III is easy with two same card type. But still a silly limitation.
  20. One trick (not a great one) is to do the grading and all on a 4k timeline, with RAW at half res and then switch to full res and 8k timeline, save, close Reslove and restart just for render. The challenge is to know what grade you can apply or not. On my test was LUT on one node, GGL on another and the last one mid tone detail and color boost. Sharpening was set on the camera raw tab. So really basic stuff only. Restarting resolve with proxy to quarter and only open the deliver tab and render seems to help. Also I did un check the use GPU for scopes. Titan RTX seems the way to go but quite expensive. A bit cheaper there is the Quadro P5000 with 16 GB but not sure it make sense. Or if you find a Radeon VII with 16 GB perf should be similar to the 2080ti but more RAM
  21. He cannot, only 8K RAW in CFExpress and in parallel a 4k proxy (can be 10bit HQ) on the SD. But you cannot write the same video file e.g. 4k 10bit on both cards. Same on 1Dx III.... it is silly imo.
  22. With Resolve it depends so much on what you do for example if you use optical flow even 8GB Vram for 4K timeline can be at the limit. So on 8k timeline with Temp NR and Optical Flow below 20 GB Vram nothing will be possible. On very simple grade probably 11 GB would do it but I'm not so sure 8K is 4x the number of pixel of 4K so in pure theory it needs 4x the Vram..... Now 8k source with reframing and punch-in on a 4k timeline is not a problem from my early tests.
  23. the thermal limits are there to protect nothing will be damaged or explode.... your mac pc phone whatever has thermal throttling this is why on high end machines cooling is so key to avoid throttling.... so nothing will explode. As the camera will overheat more and more without the limits is stops to avoid. It cannot throttle down the cpu because it will not be fast enough for the high end mode but it is fast enough for then non oversampled modes
