I owned the 1dc.  The 108060 is softer than the 5d3's 1080p24/30.  It looks like upscaled 720p to me.
So you took the camera on two international trips and used it extensively and still returned it for a full refund?

I bought my 1DC used a month ago just two weeks before the price drop. Paid $5,000 used. Just returned it and got a full refund! Now I may re purchase it new or hold out for what will happen in the next two months before I make a decision. I know that I LOVE the IQ of 1DC and my clients were very pleased with the way the footage came out in Mexico and Guatemala. I can't believe I got a refund. Kinda like a free 1 month rental!

The last month I've done two international trips with the 1DC and I'll say this camera is fantastic for that type of work. A real ninja camera. The DSLR form factor makes going through customs a breeze.

also for every movie shot on the red, 99 were shot on the alexa.
It's almost endless how many movies are being shot on the Alexa.

Interesting. I've been working (in post) on ads and network tv this year and so far it has all been Alexa. But I know Netflix won't accept Alexa. I find it the easiest image to work with in post by far.
The C300 Mk II really should be a lot better post-firmware update and at 13k it's a great deal. Most of my friends are not high end shooters, they have gone the C300 path, and they're working for Vice, etc. and still making really good livings. They got into the game later than the Red owners I know. That said, Red user is proof positive of how well that investment worked out for a substantial plurality of people.

I know a lot of DPs who own a mini and have already paid it off.  They just don't brag about it.
Reduser regulars except for my friend Nick are their own brand of "interesting" folks.
Nearly everyone in the LA and NYC commercial scene own or use the Alexa almost exclusively.  I don't know many DPs who would chose to rent a red over an alexa mini.
Before, red dragon was going strong because it was small and lightweight.  that all changed with the Amira and then definitely with the mini.
Red is pretty much, in my mind, over.  Unless Mr Jinnard really does introduce "the next big thing" - which I doubt.
C300ii definitely looks interesting at its price.
Red was really attractive to producers 5 years ago.
Now, all they want is the Alexa.
But you can easily convince a producer to use your camera if you show them the work you do on it and can explain to them why it's a better choice for the project.  If the producer doesn't listen to you, they aren't being a smart producer.

I agree with everything you wrote. For $13k I would get a C300 Mk II (post-firmware update it should be much better than it is currently–I have an acquaintance on the ACES board who mentioned to me it has been upgraded substantially with the new firmware for no more sensor banding and for reduced noise), but since your needs are specifically for slow motion I can't recommend that. And your budget seems to be around $13k so I can't recommend buying an Alexa Mini as it is three times the price. However, I agree it is the best "all around" owner/op or production camera available and by no small margin.
However, Red users seem to love their Reds, and most of them are very successful pros, whereas this forum is mostly hobbyists. It is interesting to go to Red user and see so many people making a living off their expensive cameras (anecdotally, my friends who went this route are all making six to seven figures a year), whereas very few Alexa owners seem to pay back the investment quickly. The Alexa owner/op path is surprisingly uncommon.

Yes, I've traveled with crew that has BMCC, C300, when going through X-ray check they almost always get asked to be taken out of the bag and inspected, never happens to 1DC because they've probably seen millions of DSLRs.

I don't think it will happen because the market has spoken and said 'we prefer the C300 form factor'
Also the 1D X II doesn't appear to move on the technology from the 1D C in any way to warrant Canon basing the Mk II on it aside from adding Dual Pixel AF.
I don't think they could bring out a Cinema EOS camera in 2016/17 with an MJPEG codec
I await to be proven wrong, however a new 1D C back at the old price of $12k has very little appeal to me especially if they just add H.264 to the 1D X II body and don't change the ergonomics.
The 5D Mk IV is what I have my eye on... fingers crossed for an interesting Photokina!

Let's look at the previous track record....
    Canon 1DX comes out.
Then a few months later the 1DC comes out.
    Fast forward to now.
    1DX mkII comes out.
A few months later.... 1DC mkII comes out?
That's my educated guess. We'll see.

I love my CONTAX Zeiss glass. It's cheap and has a gorgeous filmic look to them. I have the "travel" set.
    28mm f2.8, 35mm f2.8, 50mm f1.4, 85mm f2.8.
Im wanting to upgrade to the faster primes and get to a full set of the "supers".
Check out this RedUser forum all about them. Love these lenses. http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?92044-Contax-Zeiss-Survival-Guide&highlight=CONTAX

Every camera (especially with the well under $5K range) has its own little set of niggles. Even the famous and expensive 1D C has ***HEAPS*** of niggles. Even an Arri Alexa has some niggles, that is why they brought out the Amira and then the Alexa Mini.

But with an external battery pack (or a pocket full of batteries... I've got 13! So I can go with either option, just internal or external as well) you can go for ages and ages. I did this a couple of weekends ago inside at a Motorsport Expo, using the BMPCC as a quick and dirty run and gun camera on a monopod shooting to Rec709 ProRes LT (as there would be a lot of footage, none of which I'd be editing).
This shows you can even happily use a BMPCC for one of its most unconventional uses: run and gun!
If I was doing this outdoors I'd have added a monitor (I've got a Feelworld FW759 now, but hopefully I'll get a nice little 5" or smaller one to add to it instead).

The total size and weight would still be smaller than what a naked 1D C would be! And more functional. (1D C monitoring features are shit)
GoPros have been around for many years longer than a BMPCC, for a long time they were the ONLY option. That is why they were used.

GoPros would still be used now for their low cost , their widespread availability, waterproofness, extreme small size, and ease of use.

But for when image quality really matters, productions will always be now reaching for a BMPCC/BMMCC over a GoPro.
In many many cases 4K is not **NEEDED***. 4K is not needed for nearly all of my work. As AaronChicago just mentioned only a few comments before yours, he is really only using his URSA Mini 4.6K as FHD ProRes HQ and not 4K as that is all that is required for his needs.

So yes, would be lovely if the BMPCC had 4K! But it absolutely does not have to be a deal breaker requirement for many of us.

As for 60p....  that is solved, we have the BMMCC if a person must have that.
Needs an external recorder however... if BMD had included that inside the design then it would be a lot bigger and no longer Micro, plus the price would leap up.

This is however something I'd like to see! Could likely be sub $3K? With a URSA Micro (even a bit smaller than URSA Mini! But please please add internal NDs) design with a 1" (or 4/3") sensor doing 4K that gets recorded internal.

NAB 2017? To ship in 2018! Haha
I dunno, they would sell a **SHITLOAD** of Canon Rebel series DSLRs (and 60D/70D DSLRs too, only one step up) to people who never buy anything more than the kit lens it came with. Maaaybe a 50mm f1.8 and/or a walk around superzoom as well.

The people who buy L series glass from Canon are a tiny proportion of that.

But yes, if you excluded Rebel DSLR buyers from these figures, then I could agree with you.
5Dmk4 and 5D C having two very different sensors? Doesn't seem like a Canon thing to do! This seems unlikely to me.

Canon is a very predictable company. They aren't like Sony in that they do things that are unexpected. We won't see a 5d4 or 1dxii ever get canon log. This response from them proves that. Thanks for sharing. Canons cinema line will always be the only place for Canon log.
Canon at cinegear stated that they are a lens company first and a camera company second. The amount of glass they sell is astronomically higher than camera bodies. Always keep that in mind when you think of canon. They are very focused and predictable with their cameras. Unless there is a "C" on the body, don't expect canon log.

Its not clipping. In fact its perfect. With any digital image you really need to expose as hot as possible without clipping. When you pull the exposure back down to normal...all the noise that would have been there gets crushed and goes away. You did everything right. Here is a video of what I would do. Even have a way to give it a "look" at the end if you want. You really nailed the shot actually. Looks great.
