  1. Isn't it a couple of years late though? Now most mirrorless offer similar, or better, specs (IBIS), have XLR audio (Sony, Panasonic, BM), even RAW (internal for BM, external for others) and the only thing they lack is internal ND. We are at the back end of 2020, not 2017.
  2. How can not GH6 be a thing? First of all, GH series must be the most successful Lumix cameras around, at least in my country. Then, GH5 is getting older, they must be working on this for at least a year or so. There are unlimited m43 lenses and a lot of Olympus users will be reluctant to buy more Olympus bodies, so there is opportunity here for Panasonic (I saw a percentage of sales at 4.7%, same as Fuji, if next year they are at 6%, then that's a thing). A huge issue I had with m43 were, resolution (my hybrids are 28mgpxls) and of course low light performance in photography and videography. P4K and GH5S sensor solved the second as their native high ISO is all I need, but 20mgpxls at m43 is just not enough for a hybrid camera (for me, and one reason I am very disappointed with R6). A smaller sensor will always have benefits (much cheaper, easier heat dissipation, ways to improve IBIS, weight/size, e.t.c). There are still a lot smaller sensored cameras used professionally all around the world, a m43 sensor is not that small and I can see uses that can be the optimal solution (360 cameras, security, industrial uses, e.t.c). There is the appropriate thread for this discussion though. This S5 sounds amazing so far but we have to see the final release as there are more S cameras to differentiate and everyone releases cameras on an unprecedented level. We are still waiting the new Canon video cameras, probably a X-H2, the A7sIII release, probably something from Sharp and JVC, and whatever m43 camera will be next. Then, it's the mount. Do you go full in on a new system with admittedly the worst AF system in industry and super expensive lenses? Or you go to a lesser camera like the Z series, or a more expensive with limitations like the R5 or the lesser R6? Or a 24-48mgpxls (we have seen everything in rumors!) GH6 that can be a video camera workhorse with the smaller and lighter zooms in the industry?
  3. @MicahMahaffeyWhen you input "a6300" when you talking about "indie cinema", I just lost my mind.. Everything is cool, technology has bring us amazing quality for a fraction of the cost but oranges are oranges and apples are apples. Panasonic does amazing things to close the gap but when you talk about "indie films" you talk about films you do with your friends, or "indie films" that shot with the usual cinema cameras? Because we shot indie films here, but with C300 series, FX, even up to Alexas and Reds. The cost of a camera rent for a short is miniscule, that would be my last issue. Your "sensor issue" as well is like you haven't read another thread in this forum before..You are like waking up in the 5DmkII days, I thought we are past that. Being out of focus isn't artistic and I bet you are OOF most of times, or you shoot with 8-11f. We shoot a feature with an FX9 right now, a pro shooting, and guess what f stops are using most of the times...hint:no, it is not wide open and we use Canon Cine primes, not a photo zoom.. The movie you are mentioning is with moded A7 cameras. Have you checked the lenses they used? Do you know how many films around the world made with an A7s since then? 0(zero), and with cine cameras? Literally thousands.. You are taking some personal choices and I am sure they are great for you, but I wouldn't advise anyone else to worry as much as you do for those matters. My first ever m43 camera is the P4K, and now that they have solved most of the issues I had with the smaller sensors, I genuinely waiting for the GH6 more than any other full frame camera. I am using the lenses I need for the project.
  4. Using native lenses is always very convinient. I have an Olympus 12-100mm for my smallest and lightest set ups as a do it all zoom and some adapters (2 Viltrox, Aputure) for EF lenses (mostly primes, to be honest, as the Olympus negates the need to adapt a zoom EF most of the times), so I have 3 different focal lengths with the same lens. I was planning originally to buy the new special Pocket Metabones adapter, maybe I will, as it is the most specialized for the Pocket camera. Maybe you should go with this one if you do have the budget, it is supposedly much better than anything else. The dead cheap NON speedboosted Viltrox is a must have also as it just doubles the focal length, so the 18-35 trasforms to a 36-70mm, or a 50mm to an 100mm, e.t.c Depending the project you can choose accordingly, and that is the magic with the P4K camera.
  5. I know I said it before, but I am not buying anything before I see the GH6. This is appealing to me, but the price point at this economy sends me weird signals! If I can judge from previous Canon releases, 6250$ will translate to 8000€, or a bit less. Not exactly pocket money. Of course my main job is sound, so take this with a grain of salt, but even for small productions (very low budgeted) that I do, my fully rigged Pocket or a future GH6 would be enough I guess. I just can't see the point when there are great vido cameras such as the Pocket, GH5, X-T3/4 and even most mirrorless if you care for internet content. I am just trying to be pragmatistic at this point in my life and not let G.A.S lead my life anymore!
  6. The title of the thread is "Monitoring Headphones", if I was about to talk about real monitoring headphones I wouldn't be helpful to you at all, because you obviously do not want one. I tried to give you the option of a "colored" sounded pair of headphones so you can do more things than just monitoring video sound and I believe is a golden compromise between everything, mind you that I use my Sennheiser and BeyerDynamics on the field and others when mixing home, others when listening to music, e.t.c and the Sony just rarely anymore, Maybe you just need gaming headphones and you are asking on the wrong forum.
  7. "If you do not understand why you need different cans than a gaming headset, then buy whatever" I thought we are a video forum, if someone can not distinguish the needs of a video maker and that of a gamer, then how can I be helpful? And I quote my self again "They are perfect as a middle solution as they are not flat like other pro headphones." As I have already told you, they are the most "colored" of the pro headphones, so can be used for listening music and playing games and still is a pro production tool. I am just repeating my previous comment with more words.
  8. A gaming headset is perfect, for gaming.

Sorry for misunderstanding you. I totally agree! That is why is great to have dual native ISO, one for day time and one for night. The GH5S, EZ and Pocket sensor is really liberating for me and negates the one issue I have with the GH5, which admittedly isn't that great at 3200 and more.
  10. 12-100mm one of the best all around lenses on any system. Great tool together the GH5.
  11. The Sony is an industry standard of 40 years for a reason. If you need a gaming headset, buy a gaming headset.
  12. Cheapest and classic option are the Sony 7506. I have a few cans now, but I always do a job or two with the Sony. They are perfect as a middle solution as they are not flat like other pro headphones. If you do not understand why you need different cans than a gaming headset, then buy whatever.

haha! that is 100% (as a whole) undoable! Parts of it, doable ofcourse. - 4K/60 is enough for me, some kind of bigger resolution for re-size/frame, stabilize would be great, 6K/60p would be amazing and if yes, then 4K/120 would be possible, and enough, and 180/HD. - e-ND, we wish, this is like my #1 need, but noone has done it before, so we wish, but they do NOT have to. - at least GH5S low light is already present on a GH camera, so I would be certain about it. 6400 ISO in 98% of use cases? Not everyone shoots on dungeons or tunnels or mines. - Internal RAW is not happening. period. BM is a rival, not a friend, in no way they will use BM raw. - There is already the XLR thingy, they had the old UGH (I do not remember the name) for the GH4 and it was a huge disappointment. The thingy is enough, and it works, right now. - Global shutter, no way, miniscule rolling shutter, extremely positive. - 1799$ would be a fair price, but maybe it is not possible. - Why noone uses ToF AF? they need to step up their AF game, for sure. - Whatever they can do with IBIS, they are already quite good I believe. I already have my perfect m43 lens, Olympus 12-100mm 4f, thank you very much.

We have praised JVC for that in this forum for years now, I was using such a camera for years, but unfortunately there were some minor issues that didn't turn it into the indie hit of this generation, but I am sure it sold well above what people assume.. I am not one for resolutions, but I have some standards. At least 24mgpxls for photography, and I can see that 6K can be amazing as a middle ground between 4 and 8K, and even 5K would be good enough for me, as I would like to have a little bit of wiggle room. Dual ISO, the situation with the AF is something to consider, a little bit better ergonomics on the body (yes, I am a spoiled NX1 owner!), maybe a little bit less weight (too heavy for ligh m43 lenses) and we are set. Everything else is already there. My only real issues with the GH5 are the ISO and stills, they were both sub par the larger sensored competition. 4K/60 is good enough for me. Internal RAW is not going to happen. eND - I wish, that would be incredible.
  15. Small HD Focus? I am super happy with that, and is both smaller/lighter than the Shinobi (I think). Good enough for Mediterranean sun so far.

There is no way a GH6 is not coming. There are too many lenses and m43 users around, and they are perfectly happy with their cameras. They do not even have to split the sales with Olympus now. I could guess that 2019-2020 was the years of S cameras, 2021 will be the year of m43, in no way they are going to release another full frame camera any time soon (I mean, after the S5 will be officially announced and everything) and that would be...at least weird, if not straight negative. Already too many S1 owners feel a little "betrayed". I am expecting a GH6 announcement in early 2021, and probably a release soon after. GH5 and the rest are good enough for another 8-10 months, then I will be expecting a slow (normal maybe) release of 2-3 years. Maybe just 2 or 3 models are enough for m43. I am one of those that believe that 8K is too soon, I wouldn't say no to 5K or 6K for re-framing/downscaling/stabilizing purposes, just to be safe for the next few years.

Of course, Samsung is always ambitious, that is how they get here! I was expecting such a move years ago, I am not sure why it took them so long, first of all they need all these for their phones and other devices, and still buy from Sony. They will be very aggressive the next few years and maybe that will bring another camera sensor on the market, which is always good for the customer.
  18. I do sound on a FX9 feature (the DoP told me that he declined the Mini Alexa for this particular project and believes the FX9 was more suited for the task) and we use Canon Cine lenses with wireless focus. I can see only very young kids and very amateurish "movies" being shot with AF lenses, especially from kids no nothing else than their phone's cameras. Which AF lens would be similar to real cine primes? A couple or three years ago I did 1st AC on a documentary on a C300mkII and all the lenses we had were manual, set of primes and a Fujinon/Arri zoom. Only some very low budgeted productions for internet are shot at 4:2:0 on a Canon C200 with EF lenses, and even there, I tried EF on some very controlled and not very important scenes and that was too risky that I wouldn't dare using it again on more complicated/difficult/essential/important shots. Anyway, how terrible is the S1 AF? I have never used one, and on this S5 has a lot of AF features (for eye, animal, e.t.c). I saw the Dual ISO, and I was impressed.
  19. First of all we should all wait for the final announcements. The S1 is, supposedly, a better design for more demanding situations. Maybe there will be a firmware upgrade soon. I think S5 is more similar to the rumored A5 and Z5, entry level full frame cameras. There will be a GH6 soon, I hope!
  20. This seems like a strong release by Panasonic. I am not sure if this has been posted already with the (almost) full specs http://thenewcamera.com/tag/panasonic-s5/ AF is going to be THE issue, price rumored to be 1800$ which is close to 2000€, not that cheap but very capable it seems. It is not just the poor relative of the S series, there are significant characteristics to make it appealing to a lot of customers. I am not sure why Panasonic sticks to this AF technology and even if they change, how much time they will need to catch up.. I still have to see the "new" GH to have a complete knowledge of the market and choose accordingly. I was quite "shocked" when I saw the sales percentages and Panasonic is at just 4.7% with Fuji. I was expecting a bit more from Pana and their more diverse line up.
  21. 2011 just or near the peak of cameras market. People were buying cheap Rebel cameras with a kit lens, took 980 pictures on Auto and then they put their dSLRs on their closets, for ever. Just compare data from now and then and you will see the trend. How many kids you know buying an R5 with the Holy Trinity at RF these days? 5?! Kids now are just fine with an Osmo or a 360 or just their phone. We are talking Canon has sold more than 140.000.000 and I believe that doesn't include other manufacturers. How many years will take RF to reach even half of it? It may never will..
  22. GH5 offers broadcast ready codecs. C200 and other mirrorless and dslrs usually not. I am not sure how things are done in Korea but in Europe there are specific standards for televised or film projects and the codec is an important part of it. As of thr pictures are fellow friend posted above: In all three pictues I see camcorders, only in the first there is another camera but BEHIND the blue line, which I assume is not part of the production. The second picture is like a press conference and still I see camcorders and in the third there are clearly 3 camcorders. Can't even really see a FS7 type of camera which is/was a staple in the industry. These 3 productions do not seem like a scripted production, which is what I was talking about in the first place, there must be some kind of reality shows and the second one seems more like a press conference, which camcorders and their smaller sensors are used mostly for those anyway.

They have their hands full with their mobile phones. They do not make enough sensors even for their phones. They try to increase their share though. Do not forget that they had APS-C BSI 28mpxls 5 years ago and no overheating.
  24. I am not interrogating you, I am genuinely curious. I believe that Koreans can do it differently, and probably they will be the first to use AF. It is that I work a couple of decades in the industry in 3 different European countries and AF is not used at all in higher productions, for a lot of reasons that are well documented in this and other forums. The only time I have used touch AF (and not C-AF) is on non critical shots and it will stay like this. We are talking about an entry level camera here, I do not expect its footage to be nationally televised, here or there, but yes, I demand great AF on a hybrid camera in 2020. Sorry if I sounded too critical, I wasn't, I just know what I know and AF is not really a huge deal for demanding video work, it is more a lower level production thingy, and something for the younger crowds. Vlogers/bloggers/young wedding creators that are not very experienced with focusing and other one man's bands not able to excel on another part of a video production.
