I have Color Finale and it is a great tool with a lot of support from the maker at Color Grading Central... Denver Riddle is his name and he sends a shit ton of emails. Hah. What is really great about it is that it is the simplest layout for pro color tools. I used that before I ever tried Resolve and Color Finale spoiled me because it's so simple. I probably should have watched all of his tutorials, but I tend to lack patience and prefer to tinker... probably a big reason my coloring skills are lacking. But seriously, Color Finale is great and well worth the price. I think there's a pro version now as well and the newer version has an X-Rite color checker tool that is supposed to work great.

The 42.5 1.2?  That looks an amazing lens but then it is £1049.  I will see how I get on with M43 for a few months I think but it certainly is desirable!
Thanks - do you know if I remove the rubber back from the 17-55 if it can still be used on the Canon body?  If not does it go back on ok?  If so I will probably stick with the 17-55 over the Sigma 18-35 especially since you gain a stop.  Thanks for the advice on which speedbooster - seems the .71 version is the best bet.
    Nice work
Thanks also for the advice, I am thinking that I would like at least one fast native lens and the 25.17 is pretty cheap.  I think I will start there and see how I get on.

@Goose If you can get the 25mm f1.7 very cheap (100-150 usd) I would get that over the Leica if price is a concern. If you like the 12-32mm and 35-100mm you will probably like the 25mm. A kit with the GX80 and 12-32mm, 35-100mm, 25mm f/1.7 and 42,5mm f/1.7 for example would give you great image quality in a tiny package, + autofocus for stills.
It all depends on how big you want your setup to be. Speedbosters are tempting but whenever I think about getting one with FF lenses I always come to the conclusion that native lenses are best for my needs, even if it sometimes means a higher price or lower/different image quality.
This is shot with the 25mm Pana Leica and the GX85:

Fredrik, that is perfect and it looks great! Thanks, man!!! I watched the handheld one first and thought... yeah that's perfectly usable and then the FCPX stabilized version is as if it was shot on a tripod. It looks like I'll definitely be able to go handheld. And yeah, it's my first camera of '17. Now I just need to pick up the Pocket cam next month and I'll be done!!! Hopefully. Lol.

I just put in a pre-order with the Leica 12-60mm. Here in Norway the price for the camera is 22500 NOK (2635 USD) and 28000 NOK (3275 USD) with the lens. The lens alone cost 10500 NOK and only 5500 NOK in the bundle. I should be able to get at least 4000 NOK for the 12-35mm, so I can compare them and keep the one I like the most. I'm guessing it will be the Leica because I have primes for low-light and the gap between f/2.8 f4.0 isn't that big. Let the waiting begin, or should I say continue

Congrats on a new camera! First one this year?
I went out to shoot some quick tests today and here is the result. It's nothing special really but hopefully it can help you a little with your decision. I would rate my hand held skills around average so it's probably possible to get better results than this.
Comparing it to my older videos with the GX85 and a 25mm I would say it's not as smooth. There's is some micro shakes going on from time to time. Panning is very difficult I think, but easier with a gorillapod. Tripod shots are ok through the whole zoom range though and pretty good with post stabilization. The duck tracking is with 35mm btw. Anyways, I would stabilize in post using this lens.
I made two versions, one with just OIS and one with auto stabilization in FCPX. If I remember correctly you use Lock & Load and that is probably even better.
Checkin in tomorrow if you have any more questions, good night!

This is exactly the conclusion I came to when I had the GX85. I'm not usually a fan of doing things by halves but -2 contrast I found to be perfect. I left the curve alone though.

Did you buy any chance get to try the new 12-60 f/2.8-4.0? I have the 12-35mm and 35-100mm. I'm considering selling the 12-35mm and getting the kit with the 12-60mm as it will almost cover the difference. Any thoughts?

Honestly I would love to see Panasonic release a 1080p only version of the GH4 with IBIS... I would pay a  $1000 for it.

My GH4 comes in at the end of the week but I get really busy with my day job, so I won't have a ton of time for lens tests... this really saves me!

If the GH5 was shipping now, I would seriously sell off a lot of lenses to buy it. I love IBIS, but by the time it ships I should be about done, so the GH4 it is. Yeah that Noam Kroll beach video is what sold me on the 200mbps 1080p. The All-I seems to handle motion just a tad better than IPB and since I am working on a crime thriller, that motion is really important. Thanks for helping me out with the test. Btw, I usually shoot handheld with the strap method (keeping it taut and my elbows pressed to my sides) If you have a strap for the test, that would be great.

Sure thing! Will be fun to go out and shoot a little! It's getting dark here really fast but I will see if I can get it done by tomorrow.
I see what you're saying about the GH4, I guess you've already seen Noam Kroll's 1080p 60p shoot on the beach? It still looks really good! And your reasons for not buying the G85 is actually some of the same reasons I will be getting the GH5 over the G85. The G line is really good now, but I just love the handling, size and controls of the GH cameras, + high bitrate 1080p, slow motion, headphone jack, battery life etc.

Thanks Fredrik! A test on the GH3 would be great if you have the time. For this particular project I am working on I will be using the full zoom range as it will be more about framing and composition based upon my location to the subject. I will mostly be standing still but maybe a slight drift back and forth but it depends on how well the OIS does.
I really thought about the G80/85, but I find the high bitrate 1080 at 24p and 60p to be such a thick image, but specifically the slow motion of 60p and the ability to use shutter angle instead of shutter speed will really help me keep everything straight with the run and gun nature of the project. And although I will be recording double sound, I'd like to try and get some usable ambient tracks in camera and the headphone input will really help sort that out.

My favorite setting, at the same GH4 G80 and LX100 is a natural  0,-5,-5,-2 max(-4)
    shadows +2(+4)   /   highlight  0
highlight do not go into minus, skintone will be unnatural !

What focal lenghts are you planning to shoot and do you want to stand still, pan up/down/sideways or walk?
I was out with the GX85 and that lens a few days ago and shot some standing scenes mostly at 12mm and some at 25mm-35m ish. But that camera has dual IS so I'm not sure if it's a good reference though.
I'm borrowing a GH3 at the moment and can shoot something for you if you like, but only in 1080P
    Why not the G85 with dual IS 2? GH4 1080p 200mbps?
    Haven't used the 30mm.

Haha, I the guess the tripod has some value after all  Love the IBIS though!
If you look closely at my video the focus is on the forehead and cheeks while the nose and chin is slightly off. It may not matter but it would have been a better test with a smaller aperture.
It's great to see other people test/footage and compare them to our own. To learn from each others "faults" and discuss these things is very valuable to me. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I don't have an external recorder.
    2. The Sennheiser transmitter look much better on her than a external recorder. I wanted it to be as small has possible.
    3. I don't want to sync in post more than I have to, even though it's a simple task in FCPX.
    4. The GH4 had decent enough preamps for me and I expect the GH5 to have even better ones. GH3 is ok for now.
    5. The Sennheiser AVX system is small, easy to use and I'm able to monitor the audio while recording.
She is wearing a lavalier and transmitter btw,  but I will invest in a headset mic for better mic placement when she moves her head up and down at some point.
Since you mention better audio with a lav, is there anything in particular you thought could be better? Appreciate the feedback!

How well does the GX85 match with the GH3? Pretty good I think. I'm the idiot who sold my GH4 when I bought the GX85 because I thought it was a lot easier to get results with the GX85, and the rumors at that time indicated that the GH5 would be arrive in late 2016... And now when I need a mic jack I had to borrow my friends GH3 and shoot in 1080p. Can you tell which angle is the GX85 and which is the GH3? Lenses used were the PL 12mm and 25mm.
Audio is recorded with the Sennheiser AVX system. Sorry for the strange language...

Yes, I would say so. I didn't see more noise in your youtube video with or without NR, and I agree it's looks a tiny bit crisper. Most of the recommendations I have seen is either -4 or -5 on NR. I have been using standard 0, -5, -5, 0 for a while and it works well for me. I could probably lower the saturation at times I suppose.

Don't know where someone said that Sony, Fuji or Oly performs less than a Panasonic. I guess we can all agree that they've always been a little behind on juicyness of the image; just can't squeeze as much out of a smaller sensor, simple as that. But that's not the point. It's being completely oblivious to that and going with it anyways, because it's by far a more productive camera and arguably the better value. Panasonics are workable and you can get some really lovely results with them. Being more attracted to the GH5 than the X-T2, E-M1 Mark II or A6500, doesn't make you a fanboy anything, so I don't really get the 'being attacked, defend!'-mode. Doesn't mean you think the image trumps all else. Just means you really like what it does nontheless and have the confidence that you can make it work. And remember not everyone has the resources to pull off a two camera inventory.
