  1. I'm no huge Canon fan. I used to be. Bought the t3i when it was new and loved it. Good times. But I must say that Canon has always given me the Apple vibe. On paper it looks expensive and without the latest and greatest features. But when using it you sort of get it. The features and hardware it does have work, and work very very well. A camera I've always been intrigued by but never owned is tha XA20. The little sister of the XF100 but with a longer zoom and slowmo. I thought, "it seems nice but man, that price". First time I played with it, Ahh now I get it, and want it more than ever. Same with the C100. And now the xc10. The dvx200 and xc10 I think will be the two most underrated cameras this year. Slow lenses, weird features, high prices aside. When Canon does something they might not do it right but they do it well. And Panasonic, they do lots of things but when they finally make a successor to a legend, it will be sweet. To me the XC10 thread here and on other places is a pretty good example. Nothing but hate. Everything was wrong, everything. And then it stopped. Because the footage looks great and the actual user experiences are positive. Any who, don't exactly know the point of this post since I'm a little bit drunk from drinking beer while waiting on Indian food, but those where my thoughts.
  2. Got an adapter to get the $6 Miranda 25mm f2.8 up and running today.
  3. The used price is the point. Your argument of the comparison being pointless is only valid if you where the only reader of this blog and only your needs and views where allowed. I always buy used if I can so for me that's the price to consider. And even if it broke down the first day I would still have more money left than if I had bought all my previous gear new.
  4. Big difference between digital sharpening and detail. I prefer detail. It looks closer to real life.
  5. "Do you shoot with a RED?" "RED...? Sir/Mam I think we can do a little better than RED, I mean if you ask me your company deserve more, something with a bit of panache.... bla bla. .. BS BS. .." Sell Sell Sell
  6. That's true, but as a producer one of my main tasks besides being the creative director is to sell the idea to a client using any sort of jedi mind trick required I allso blame it on bad producer if the client isn't convinced that the gear is good enough if it is. Even if it's a t2i. Again you didn't understand the answer. Or did you miss the "me not quoting" part? Why not let people post their thoughts and opinions on various subjects without the constant nitpicking and Negative Nancyism? Humble opinion much? Zzzzzzzzzz nothing will ever be equal.
  7. Depends, I ask t2i guy what he thinks of my idea for a commercial. He then comes with a great new perspective additional ideas and our creative process takes of. Alexa guy suggest SDOF and a Drone. I think I hire t2i guy and rent him an Alexa.
  8. I was under the impression that those that use Power Director have been editing h.265 natively for quite some time now. At least they claim to be.
  9. Ahh, Well luckily it will atleast be cheaper than where I live. I often buy electronics when in Thailand. Specially if its Apple stuff.
  10. You could always pull a fast one. Buy it, try it and return it
  11. Post 1 Not to be mean at all but it's a little funny to imagine someone finally having enough, completing the registration and defend the Pany. Again, no mean intentions. Welcome abord.
  12. hey, Is there a chance you could upload a short clip of ungraded c-log somewhere for download. Would be very appreciated
  13. maybe get some soft textile tape and pad a bit. I can try with mine.
  14. Sounds like your loosing DR when moving away from the native iso. Makes sense to me.
  15. I must clarify once again, I'm not talking about this test. Just a comment. And of course it's not a winner, neither is the 1DC. Which camera is better than another is always 100% subjective and can only be answered by the person buying it.
  16. Imo, a camera that has more detail but low dynamic range isn't a winner. Why have a little extra detail in leaves if the sky is blown. Talk about lost detail when half the picture is missing. I'm not saying it's in this test, just a proactive comment on where I think this discussion might end up.
  17. I would say the opsite. In the shootout the 1dc strikes me as more realistic. The world doesn't look to my eyes like what the nx1 shows. But of course, neither you or I know what where talking about. We weren't there.
  18. There is no such rule, but I kinfa agree. I've worked along time as a reporter and in sports broadcast. Now producer. And there are plenty of times when it's totally suitable for some film look. Like highlights, vignettes, montages, and other types of b-rolls. For history it can be very effective for reenactments. One of my favorite cooking shows use it for showing ingredients needed and some BTS b-rolls. Works perfectly. I don't see your point though in relation to my post that you quoted.
  19. I can buy an F35 with 5h battery and 90min worth of media for less than $2500!?? SOLD! I'm totally in, do you accept PayPal?
  20. Yeah I also wonder why people so often dismiss stuff they don't understand with "living in the past", or "amateur" or even "hipster". I don't get why someone likes video, enjoy the movie "Lord of the Rings" or playing Soccer. But it's clear to me that many do, and that's all good. I don't think It's because they don't know better. It's just their thing. The look of film is my thing.
  21. I have about three different test videos in the pipe. So I can definitely upload some frames for people to grade. But it might be a while since I need to shoot one more roll before sending it to a lab. Also Ive only shot a couple of 10sec clips in the beginning of each roll. Now I'm undecided if the third roll should be for a mini doc or another "family film" for my future self. Either way I can squeeze in a test clip again.
  22. No I would say that movies such as "Drive" which I watched the same day are pretty well lit and professionally executed. That Alexa 65 footage sure looks great. But I suspect I will like Tarantinos 70 mm more. And my home processed Medium Format stills look pretty darn sweet as well, atleast look wise. Now if I could just take 24 of them a second and learn how to light, get actors, production money, a good writer, director and it would be in the bag. I wish I could. The closest I get is with the D16. I think some of the f35 I see is right up there as well. I have been shooting tests this weekend to see what really looks like film using blackmagic, bolex, s-log and actual film.
