  1. That's the "hardness" I am talking about.
  2. I'm talking about holding focus on a moving subject at f2. I don't care what docs you've done, why do you think vice uses the c100/c300. They want the shallow DOF look in a run and gun situation. You need all the tools you can get. People also produce great content without a waveform monitor, peaking, zebras, XLR audio in, or even ND filters... Why deny an amazing tool like AF. AF/IS 24-105 is just amazing to work with on the c series cameras, as I imagine it will be on the 1DXii as well. Nice.
  3. This is the worst argument and everyone who tries to defend it sounds foolish. Maybe we're not talking about the same type of shooting, but documentary shooting/run and gun is extremely difficult, and anything to aid in that is huge. We're not talking about shooting static shots of grass in the wind or even film where you could use focus markers. We're talking about run and gun doc work where you need to get as much coverage as you can in a very short amount of time. I'm not saying pulling focus is impossible, but the "thousands of people," comment is ridiculous. This is why a black magic pocket camera and a bag full of step rings and some ND filters does not cut it for a lot of work. People think auto focus = amateur, not the case with these cameras…
  4. Yes, 1DX keeps stuff in focus, in slow motion. The 1DC shoots flat.
  5. Surprised no one has mentioned that you need to shoot with a really high shutter speed for twixtor to work well. The first ten seconds of this is all twixtor. A lot of of it was handheld, so it helped smooth out the movements. Like everyone has said, it all depends on how slow everything is. I consider twixtor to be an editors trick... It's not really something you can rely on all the time.
  6. So true. This is 95 percent C-Log footage on vimeo.
  7. All those people saying the auto focus is "the only selling point." Looks pretty huge to me. https://vimeo.com/167576629 I don't mind blown highlights when it looks this good. Basically straight out of the camera. Wow... I agree it needs to be treated like a high contrast reversal film stock.
  8. I'm a huge fan on the canon color space, but the noise always bugs me. I love how clean the FS700/7Q looks, but the image is ruined by the color it produces. I am really curious how much benefit a 1DXii is to a c100ii, (1080p delivery,) considering the lack of c-log. My only problem with the c100 is noise in the shadows, but the 1DXii can't even shoot flat enough to get viewable noise in shadows...
  9. That digital bolex footage sure is nice. One could argue that a lot of cameras would look good in those settings, a 5D raw would also look pretty damn good. I can't believe more people don't shoot with the digital bolex. A pro colorist could do some serious magic with that camera.
  10. The only thing the 1DXii has is the images are in focus when you shoot them. No biggy. This does look seriously beautiful. A lot of people will be picking up this camera… Regardless of the price, the image is just great. Mean while in sony land.
  11. I would love to see more tests in outdoor settings with lots of green/blue sky/skin tone. I want to like the Sony cameras, I really do. I can't believe I am deciding to purchase a c100ii or a fs700/7Q. I can't believe the FS700 is such a steal right now, and I love the crispy images, just isn't great for a lot of paid work where that Canon look is really preferred... Would also like to add that is easier to tell which is which when there isn't 3 up in a row like that.
  12. The manual zooms above looked really nice. I want one! Thanks for sharing.
  13. I was pretty blown away by the auto focus when I used it.
  14. Because this will put out a better image than most "proper video cameras." Straight out of the camera, this will look better than an FS7, it also has 4k/60p, really great auto focus, and the smaller size. Obviously there are better deals out there, but if you want the top of the line DSLR...
  15. So true. This camera is going to put out some real nice footage.
  16. Well, it's one third the price of the C300ii, it also does 4k/60p, and the camera is tiny in comparison. We use the C300ii at work, would love to own one, but this is the closest image you can get without dropping 16k. Having a small hybrid camera is always a good thing. The 5D3 is still being used in productions and this is a very upgraded version of that. I imagine the 1DCii will be really popular.
  17. I agree on the grade. Not feeling it at all. The 1DXii is going to be an amazing camera. I've been using the auto focus on the C300ii and it is amazing. I love the canon image. Want the FS700/7Q because it's cheap and has so many features, but I think this camera will do very well and the feature set makes it a useful tool for the years to come.
  18. But they're heavy, large, and get really hot. If you're lighting interviews, LEDs are great, but yes an LED panel is no competition for a 2k Arri...
  19. Which Dracasts did you buy? I actually just picked up two of the Dracast Plus color adjusting panels. Right now if you purchase from BH photo, they ship with a 300 dollar V mount battery. I actually prefer the controls to be on the panel, this way you get a super portable temp adjustable soft box, without being tethered to a stand... I'm a little on the fence whether I should go color adjusting or go straight 5600k for my next purchase. I currently own a 1x1 and 1/2 panel from dracast. The light out put isn't as high but the versatility is really nice… Would also like to add that this case is really good for any light panel kit. I have taken the original light panel 1x1s all over the world with this case. It can hold 4 stands, a microphone boom kit, stingers, etc. I use this as my main lighting/accessory case. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=564291&gclid=CjwKEAjwuuy4BRCvs43g9fX9mz4SJACiYydPhRVjPgygy0y4YgWZnODsnJJCCjwfBiD4CgZ6q0YR_BoC2g7w_wcB&is=REG&ap=y&m=Y&c3api=1876%2C92051677442%2C&Q=&A=details
  20. 422. No rolling shutter. Great colors, audio, and a zoom. Reliable. It was good for the time, still gets used a lot in the sports world for ENG style stuff.
  21. Yes, but why care so much about bit rates and dynamic range, when you apply a look that makes your 4k Pro Res footage look like 8 bit 5D footage...
  22. My mistake, I am just talking about Pro Res HQ/4k. I know people get excited about RAW but Pro Res is really amazing without all the fuss...' Will this send 4k out of HDMI or SDI? If only HDMI, it leaves the first 7Q out.
  23. You don't need it as long as the recorder can pull the raw signal. You will probably will be able to do 24p/4k/10 bit with the 4k video assist or the shogun, but the high frame rates will require the 7Q with sony firmware unlocked... That would be my guess at least.
  24. I disagree as well. James Miller and Philip bloom make every camera and sensor look identical at this point with their heavy heavy filtering. I just want them to attempt to make some natural looking images. Ed, I love your color work on the F3 and the other older sonys. Gives it character in good taste.
