I just borrowed the X4 from a friend and somehow it is so much fun to work with it. Especially the post process when you just tweak some settings and get a super different picture - add some keyframes and the whole thing becomes super dynamic. That being said its strange that you somehow get accustomed to the effect pretty fast.
Size and battery life are nice too.
For the X5 i am really wondering how it will perform as "normal" camera. 1,26" is bigger than Super 16mm isn't it?
-
Might also be that they dropped the 4k Cinema price so they can sell them off.
A OG Pocket siced 4K o 6K cam would be fun.

A full frame R5 V is what we really want, around the $2000 mark.
Isn't that the R8?

The Fuji X-H2S is doing 9ms in 4K and 4ms in 4K/120p and it costs $1500 on eBay.
Show us 🙂
I haven't seen any good skin tones / high key stuff from the XH2s - it has a special and fantastic Fuji look, but somehow that one is also very distinct.

also strange that not one of the youtube testers is combinig it with the 28mm pancake lens...

Here it is, the camera i have wanted 5 years ago!
https://www.canon.co.uk/cameras/eos-r50v/
A strange time: so many options: a cheap red komodo for that indie movie, a supersmall canon camera with 10 bit codec - things everyone would have dreamt of 5-8 years ago.
-
Specwisee this looks like the camera i have been waiting for ( .. apart from the 5.6). The material from the camera in the promotion video looks pretty horrible though, especially in comparison to the beautifully shot and great looking rest of the commercial ( what did they shoot it on?)

I think what is happening, is that:
A) Social media has reminded a very large audience that compact cameras are FUN
B) What you can get up to with one, the shoots - the simplicity - it all looks cool on social media which further draws people in
C) There's a lot of affordable compacts
D) The top premium compacts with exception of X100 series have not had updates for AGES so the previous models are still in demand
🙂One additional point would be that parents don't want their children to use the smartphone on holidays all the time, don't want to be seen using the smartphone on holidays, etc.

Check out this film they shot on Leica SL-2 with Zeiss Supreme Primes:
Some of the bts shots can be found here:

Some of you might still know Steffen Hacker of Hackermovies Fame ( a german independent film forum that was pretty popular between 2002 and 2012).

Wow, thank you!

Slashing the price to clear the old stock out?
Might be hints at a new replacement coming in 2025?
Perhaps the Pyxis with a MFT mount and the same sensor in it.
Maybe with some other cost saving measure? (cheaper/smaller monitor?)
If they could release "a Pyxis MFT" sigificantly cheaper than their FF version, say for $1750, then maybe that explains clearing out the BMD Pocket bodies.
Interesting! Maybe they also want just want to check if they can sell more if they lower the price - or a combination of the two...
-
I recieved the camera approx. 3 weeks ago, i did not have much time to test it and decided to send it back.
- The body is made of plastic but the size and the weight are fantastic. Funny how different it feels to take pictures and videos of the family with such a small camera (compared to the a74).
- On the video side it feels great, feelings of the original blackmagic pocket come up. It's really fun to use for such a small camera body.
Of course it is winter and i was only able to take pictures inside: for that use case the camera is worse to the a74 by far. Not sure wether it is fair to compare those two though...
So overall i believe that this is a really fun camera - i will just not be able to invest the time to learn a new system right now, also @Andrew Reids praise of the S9 did not help as well.
But it's defenetly a great camera for every day carry, holidays and traveling. Not sure wether it's the right thing for my use case of music videos, short films and family pictures though...

Yes, sadly the batteries are more expensive than the lights itself.

The Leica then had Problems with lenses from other manufacturers, doesn't it?

Now the thing is... I would have bought it anyway, it's great for video, really good 10bit N-LOG, stabilisation is superb and the EVF is large and clear. But the price difference is now just so small, and look at what you get... 47 megapixels, 5K open gate, 4K/60 full frame, even better EVF, and build quality / ergonomics in a different league. There's also the firmware updates since release, and a new battery which I'll come to in a moment. The firmware updates have added in-camera LUT support, so you can load a .Cube file and monitor with it through the EVF and screen, very nice. L-LOG is much improved from the first SL.
Here you are comparing the Nikon ZF and the Z6III, are you?
-
Okay, i read @Andrew Reid extra thread on the Nikon ZF compared to the Z6II and the Leica...
Thanks!

econdary stills plus hybrid = Zf. If I had the brass, it would be Leica Q3 43mm, despite their shit customer service, lack of chairs and dry cake. It ticks every box for me in that regard except one and that is purchase price. Even at €3k, I'd struggle, but it's twice that, so my Zf is my 'Poor Man's Leica Q3'.
Still wondering about the Nikon ZF. How is the video mode? Colourscience looks good, but how can i judge from YouTube…

Thanks for the reply!
yes the ballon lights are great - feels strange to throw them away after the batteries are finished - as i want to move into stop motion usb powered lights would be much better…It‘s super fun though to light with those little lights. Am thinking about building miniature deformers etc.
I am 100% with you regarding the blues- i am still having problems colorcorrecting the sony blues which tend to look very „video“ like…
Shot the 2022 Version on blackmagic and found the colours much more pleasing - but i did not know about the ballon lights back then…
-
Another year another christmas short: I am looking for additional cheap ways to light the set: So far i am using a blue light for the background and little ballon lights (leds to be oput into a ballon (warm white) and small fairy lights (also warm white). Maybe you have an idea? Lego lights are beautiful but expensive. Maybe someone has experience shooting minitures? Would be happy if you could show it to all the children you know...

True for features though a lot of commercials work with Sony Venice.

What's the compact lens you've got for every day carry with the Fujifilm X-M5?
As I've got a Fujfilm X-A3 (yeah, I know, old!) and I've been thinking what is the best lens for it for
everydayeverynight (out in nightclubs/pubs/events) carry.Definitely don't want anything too expensive, as the risks it could get lost/stolen/broken within the next couple of years are quite high.
TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8 is top of the list, but I worry f2.8 might be too slow? But it is only US$149
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1732752-REG/ttartisan_af2728_x_b_af_c27mm_f_2_8_lens.html
Yongnuo YN 50mm f/1.8 is also only US$149, but being 50mm is definitely too long. However if I'm to bring along a second lens, then I think this could be perfect. (or the Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.7? Or the Meike 55mm f/1.4 AF Lens?
Could go with a genuine Fujifilm lens, with the Fujifilm XC 35mm f/2 at the surprisingly low US$199. But hmm... tough and go about 35mm, probably is going to be not wide enough. (and the Meike 33mm f/1.4 and Tokina 33mm f/1.4 can be similarly ignored, only 2mm difference)
Tokina 23mm f/1.4 could be the perfect lens for both FoV and F-stop, but price is creeping up at US$249 and maybe it's too bulky?
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1608878-REG/tokina_atx_m_af23x_atx_m_23mm_f_1_4_x.html
And for only a little more at US$279 there is the Sirui Sniper 23mm f/1.2
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1798104-REG/sirui_23as12x_b_sniper_23mm_f_1_2_aps_c.html
Keeping on creeping up with the price to US$299 we see the Viltrox AF 23mm f/1.4
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1581754-REG/viltrox_af_23_1_4_xf_23mm_f_1_4_lens_for.html
As the price keeps on going up, then there is the Sirui Sniper 16mm f/1.2 at $319:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1836434-REG/sirui_16as12x_b_sniper_16mm_f_1_2_autofocus.html
And then finally for the Fujifilm XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR Lens for $399 (minor mention to the Fujfilm 35mm f/2 R WR & 16mm f/2.8 R WR Lenses which are also US$399), which is definitely the most compact of all the autofocus lenses being considered so far:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1618892-REG/fujifilm_16670168_xf_27mm_f_2_8_r.html
But four hundred USD is definitely beyond the absolute max I'd consider splurging on such a lens for a frivolous purpose.
The other option is forgetting about autofocus (how well are these third party lenses going to be focusing anyway in a dark environment at night on an old X-A3 body???), and go manual focus:
TTArtisan 25mm f/2 for US$64:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1725977-REG/ttartisan_c2520_b_x_25mm_f_2_aps_c_compact.html
(and the TTArtisan 50mm f/2 for US$69, it's cheap and compact enough I could indeed be always carrying around a second lens: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1718063-REG/ttartisan_f5020_b_x_50mm_f_2_full_frame.html
Or spend a little bit more for a little extra speed, the TTArtisan 23mm f/1.4 for US$99:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1675251-REG/ttartisan_a35bs_x_23mm_f_1_4_aps_c_lens.html
Or go wider, TTArtisan 17mm f/1.4 for US$118:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1644040-REG/ttartisan_a23b_17mm_f_1_4_aps_c_lens.html
Mine will arrive in the next days. I will do the initial tests with the kitlens and take it from there. Thanks for the overview! I will get back to it!

What are your thoughts on Bertrand Mandico? Honestly i find it quite hard to understand the concepts and strories of his films, but the way his movies look and are shot is super faszinating. Also great that he comes from an animation background:
