  1. Seems like quality is great when shooting externally in DX-Mode (APS-C). https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=auto&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.slashcam.de%2Fartikel%2FTest%2FNikon-Z7---viele-Crop-Modi-und-deren-Unterschiede-in-der-Bildqualitaet-beim-Filmen--Die-Aufloesung-der-Nikon-Z7.html%23Die_A No sharpening applied at all! So basically even Nikon is passing by Panasonic atm...
  2. How does the codec affect the scaling algorithm? Am confused And how does a higher chroma subsampling affect luma detail?
  3. Seems like the X-T3 even captures more detail than the NX1. Wish they would have dialed down sharpening in the comparison to make it smoother. Hopefully Slashcam will do a test as well, they usually include standard vs. all the way down sharpening samples. Edit: Even the 4k 60p looks great!
  4. Looks pretty much like standard settings. Log + Eterna with sharpening and nr dialed down looks great up to ISO3200. At ISO6400 some low contrast detail gets blurred. Very much like the A73 does, but at least with less artifacts.
  5. It definitely is. But honestly this is the best in camera sharpening I've ever seen. Would shoot documentaries like that. For a less video look you can still dial down sharpening and NR to -4 and use some diffusion.
  6. Ettr doesn't mean blowing highlights out though. Even doing ETTR on the GH5 to maximize dynamic range with great results. But when I can I center the histogram/waveform to make better use of the baked in gamma curve - which is irrelevant on raw though
  7. Ever heard of follow focus? Also GH5(s) continuous AF will destroy your footage unless you're using a 7mm lens with a closed aperture. The GH5s has horrible sharpening artifacts at -5 sharpening and horizontal pattern noise even appearing in shadows at base ISO. Way lower dynamic range also. Advantages over the P4K are like 3 times better battery life, flip screen (but smaller) and Ibis using the GH5. I prefer image quality though.
  8. Better video quality, way better DR and no sharpening. For non-narrative work the GH5s is fine.
  9. True, most people are like: Yh let's ignore that great shadow dr and blow out some high lights instead... ?
  10. The GH5(s) doesn't have XLR, only with an expensive and bulky adapter. Also 400mbit doesn't work on V30 cards while it does work fine on the X-T3. For the nicest color V-Log L using proper color management or ARRI luts by @Sage are the way to go. Also a big problem: Oversharpening of even noise especially in shadow areas... So add lots of diffusion if a cinematic look is your thing. The P4K has XLR btw. You can use extended video (internally or as a lut or even RAW interpretation) for fast delivery with actually really nice colors and a very natural looking image with great dynamic range - but prone to aliasing and even moire in RAW video. The GH5 still has the advantage here. The X-T3 competes more with the Pocket 4K with it's 10 bit even at 4K60 and 1080p120 - and bad battery life... Eterna looks amazing out of camera. Low light looks better to me than the A73 which suffers a lot by its nasty noise reduction which produces lots of artifacts and eliminates low contrast detail entirely.

    GH5S or X-T3?

Even 400mbps worked fine for me. Pretty amazing
  12. Both videos are both ETTR towards the sky. The Pocket 4K simply has way better dynamic range.
  13. Since the Pocket 4k doesn't do any, I would say so.
  14. Would love to see some comparisons as well. Especially skin tones in low light (high iso). Still a bit afraid of skin tone smearing on the X-T3. Do you lower sharpening and noise reduction to -4 (and turn off inter frame nr?)
  15. The red clipping in this example looks terrible. I wonder if it's in the RAW or ProRes file. Really weird. First time I've seen it on this camera. Looks more like an ACES issue I ran into using Pocket 4K footage before.
  16. Did you convert it to Rec709 inside ACES?
  17. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1lYduNOHyHSZj_SZPlRy96GJdZUFj8L6Z A short dynamic range comparison by @tidefilm Matched the source files (the shadows of the GH5s are completely desaturated) and added a bit of blur to take away the edge. Please download the file. The Pocket 4K smokes the GH5s in this test, it's not even fair. Not only no sharpening but also way cleaner. The GH5s shows some horizontal noise patterns (was shot at 25p)

    GH5S or X-T3?

@tidefilm uploaded some footage from the Pocket 4K and the GH5s for a dynamic range comparison he did here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOtGVgeK_Dc Downloaded the RAW clips and compared them by matching them, adding some chroma temporal noise reduction and some slight blur to make it look less digital. Honestly the Pocket4K destroys the GH5s. It's not even fair. Turns out you may see the infamous horizontal noise pattern on the GH5s not only using VFR. Download the 4K clip here https://drive.google.com/open?id=1lYduNOHyHSZj_SZPlRy96GJdZUFj8L6Z
  19. Terrible processing which makes it look like video?
  20. Really looking forward to their X-H2 as well for that reason lol Wishlist would be like: - Better battery - IBIS (closer to the GH5 please) - Swivel screen
  21. sounds great. Still undecided between the Pocket 4K and X-T3 honestly. The good auto focus and 120p without crop (and still 10 bit) are tempting...
  22. For sure it does have better color science, way less noise (in ProRes thanks to its nice filtering https://www.slashcam.de/artikel/Test/Blackmagic-Pocket-Cinema-Camera-4K---Bildqualitaet-und-Sensor-Verhalten--Low-Light.html#Low_L and https://www.slashcam.de/artikel/Test/Blackmagic-Pocket-Cinema-Camera-4K---Bildqualitaet-und-Sensor-Verhalten.html), better dynamic range and no sharpening at all - but more prone to aliasing and even moire in high frequency detail.
  23. Quite offtopic, but did you try Pro color profile with still gamma? Bit contrasty but colors look good to me (except for bright blues)

    GH5S or X-T3?

The 4gb problem will be fixed with the next firmware update. Also the GH5 is definitely way worse than the X-T3 in low light. ISO3200 are clean with the X-T3, even ISO6400 are usable with some noise in the shadows- Don't ever do that with the GH5 lol some interesting video The GH5 loses in the dynamic range department as well.
  25. X-T3 vs GH5s vs Pocket 4K Would love to see: skin tones (to see smoothing) wide angle shots (to determine aliasing, moire and oversharpening) dynamic range and low light tests (properly exposed and please no LUT comparison like wolfcrow did) sharpening and nr off or turned down as much as possible for best performance RAW (seems to have the more aliasing and moire issues as well as ugly noise) vs non-RAW
