Outstanding! ;) The footage in the beginning is pretty unbelievable. ISO25.600. Who'd ever thought that anno 2014 you'd be able to shoot video at 25.600 and get away with it easily? What a strenght to have in a camera. But there's some practical schtuff the GH4 sports too of course. Every subject is touched on nicely and in the end I think I have to agree that if you can make these camera's work together, there's virtually nothing you can't do. Still kind of debating on if I go that road... what I need to do about lenses for both. Do I stay native? Should I go universal and adapters?

Only people that shoot sports photography and maybe some wildlife enthusiasts? Although I bet Moritz will be all over this too. :P But other than that. Looks like the 70D's sensor wanted to put itself into the 7D's body. Nothing revolutionary there from Canon... who would've thought... :mellow:

In the blacks? I actually was surprised it handles the blacks so cleanly. The most noise I encountered was in the midrange/greys and found the blacks were surprisingly clean. I actually got it as an all-purpose camera, for stills and video for times I'm not planning on shooting anything, but having something around with a great deal of flexibility, mosty for travelling/on-the-go. It would be an addition to my LX7 which also is an all-purpose camera for more or less exactly that but on a more portable basis. So yeah, count me in for the LX7 successor as well. And I've got those again in addition to more serious video and photography cameras for less on-the-go quick grab and more dedicated, set up and planned shooting: the GH2, GH4, E-M1 and BMPCC. Of course all but the E-M1 are videomonsters. The E-M1 has lots of things going for it, it's really fun for photography and the IBIS works like a charm for video... but... I do keep running into the issue that 30p is not flexible enough. I really want that 24p and 25p. More so than 4K even (btw, why don't cameras come with 1330p or 1440p? It's either 1080p or 2160p. But for a little post footage stabilization or subtle zoom-ins/pans, 1330/1440p would already do the trick right?).

Could just be one of these snug fits. At first I had trouble mounting my MFT-mount SLR Magic HyperPrime CINE 25mm T0.95 onto the E-M1. They told me... Though... every other lens acts just the same regardless of camera body; the way you expect 'em to. Only had it with the mentioned lens. And I wasn't alone. Can't really tell you why a lens would fit differently on two mounts which are supposed to be identical.

Eh... LX1000 ≠LX8 ≠GM2. I believe it was the LX8 that was rumored with f/2-f/2.8. The LX8 is supposed to be an 1"-sensor type premium compact camera, to rival the RX100M3, offering a built-in EVF for example. The GM2 is supposed to be a 'regular' interchangeable lens camera with M43-sensor. Probably will also come with (an updated?) 12-32mm lens. The body is rumored to as well feature a built-in EVF and there's also some talk about built-in stabilization? So it kinda fits in somewhere between the current GM1 and the GX7. The LX1000 is something of a whole different kind. It doesn't feature a 1"-sensor, so it's M43rds. But, it would be the first one with that very sensortype to sport a fixed zoomlens, so nothing interchangeable. This could very well try to conquer a piece of the market where people now would buy something like the Canon G1 X mkII, Fuji X100(/S) or even the Nikon RX1(/R). And supposedly all of Panasonic's new serious cameras in 2014 will have 4K video modes... so there's that.

Ah, the 1x speed is realtime, then ok, thanks for pointing that out. Though, the title says it all, it's supposed to stabilize 'Hyperlapse'. So... you could say any ordinary video is a timelapse/hyperlapse in a way, because there are sequenced frames with both. I just need some convincing the 1x can beat actual physical corrections on the spot. I've yet to find me a video with a 1x speed example.

But, ok, so now you have awesome and effective stabilization for hyperlapses... And now shoot something realtime... you will be glad you have the E-M1 that actively stabilizes unwanted motion, by sensing AND correcting the sensor's plane for it at the time or recording.

Had some good news here just this very morning... It's a replacement unit for the BMPCC I bought as a summer sale-deal well over a month back. Already frowned when they wanted to sell me an unsealed box, but since it looked unused, was promised it wasn't a demo model and with no other way of getting one any sooner in sight (it was litterally the last one anywhere), I just took it. I unfortunately then had to return it the next day because it showed hot pixels of which the effect was especially pronounced and very distracting at 800ASA and 1600ASA (with the about 30+ hot pixels showing, you'd almost think you're watching star constellations). They would then send it back to Blackmagic requesting to replace it. I waited over a month with no news whatsoever, so last week I thought it was time to put on a little pressure. The lady at the store was very understanding, and they in turn put some pressure on Blackmagic. On friday they then promised us a brand new unit would arrive next week, which means: this week. And whattayaknow, this morning they called me saying it had arrived! So I just went and picked it up. Brand new sealed unit, as where it's only guessing where the other one originated (maybe their online store had a customer who bought it and then sent it back within the cooldown period (which you can do without an explanation why) and they just put it back on the shelf?). The old serialno. started with '1672..', this one with '2014..', no idea if that's any indication whatsoever, but the other one must've been one of the earlier batches and this must be brand spanking new. In meanwhile I had already ordered and received some spare batteries and a charger from Patona, so those can finally be put to good use as well. Now just got to make sure this unit is ok, so I'll put on the latest firmware and run a few tests! I hope this time around my experience with the BMPCC will be flawless and then this 475,- EUR is verrrrryyy well spent I'd say. :lol: What a bargain. Hope all of you who ordered one will receive 'em soon too! - Upd. Gave it a spin (without touching the FW) and 800ASA looks absolutely fine to me. At 1600ASA perhaps you could argue that you see some hints of hot pixels. But to be honest, you will need your monitor at full brightness, film in a way to make it more obvious, know what to look for and not apply any noise reduction whatsoever. It blends in with the noise and is very very faint. Not an issue. The only thing bothersome I came across was some pixel pop-ups/flashes (lasts only one frame, but intense enough to notice). But it might have something to do with using the [focus]-button whilst filming (in 800ASA; and not that you should be using the autofocus feature anyways, but I was testing schtuff you know). -- Upd. Well, no joy there. It seems to be independent of ASA-setting and/or focussing or not. Maybe two or three frames in a minute of footage are effected. Surely you can correct this in post easily without too much hassle (although now you have to carefully analyze the footage several times and make sure not to blink in order to get 'em all covered), but still, it's not really supposed to behave like this of course. Could try and shoot with another freshly formatted card. Will now go and update the firmware to the latest 1.9.3, see if that helps and checkout the new style and features. --- Upd. I like the new FW. Still I keep getting these pop-up pixels now and again though. FW update, ProRes LT or HQ, one card or the next... no difference.

The BMPCC speedbooster? Well, no. And you have to be careful about that one in particular I understood, because it protrudes differently. But that again, maybe that's why you're asking. :P But I was actually already expecting my RJ Lens Turbo Nikon (F / G) -> M43 (much cheaper focal reducer (thanks to Personal View's Vitaly for the info), with lens collar and aperture control), but it's still not here yet unfortunately. I've got the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 with Nikon mount and am now using regular Fotga Nikon (G) to M43 adapter, but of course wanted to try out a focal reducer as well. Also because I'm planning to get the 18-35mm f/1.8 Sigma at some point.

Of course the IBIS, peaking and what not. But in the end it shoots great still pictures and even the video is quite nice, but not being able to shoot 25p is a bit problematic over here in Europe... and recording 24p for that filmlook... not gonna happen. So that's something we really crave for. We've been wanting that for months! But we just get some minor upgrades that do pretty much do shit when it comes down to video. For now it's actually just a stills camera here. Haven't really used the videomode since my trip to Oslo, and that was months ago. The Panny's I have lying around just have much relaxter videomodes (and even though I wished I didn't have to turn the camera off and on to change frequency region on the GH4, atleast I can friggin' change it). ;)

Thanks for that, it's only a light case of pharyngitis, so the antibiotics and nose drops should take care of it quickly I hope. On to the FZ1000. It has won the EISA Award for best advanced compact camera 2014-2015 (Panasonic also got one for the GH4 and Olympus for their 12-40mm f/2.8 zoom lens, so coïncidentally what's in my pictures above). Kind of a shame what they did with the FZ1000 that's been bugging me a bit (besides the handling noise), the SD slot is located in the battery compartment on the bottom (which will be blocked when adding a QR plate/mounting it on something) instead of on the side, like on the GH-series. Also, the tripod hole is placed offset of sensor's center. If you're looking for more info, Graham Houghton, whom I already knew from videos on the FZ200, has gone and got himself a FZ1000 too. I'll just move your quote to here, Flynn, more on-topic. The stabilization is fine on the FZ1000, although the effectiveness is highly dependent on your general handheld shooting skills (and still can't quite touch Olympuses implementation). It's easy to still get some jittery effects going on, especially when autofocus is enabled too. This camera works best when you pull all the strings and tell it what to do. But I managed to get it really nice and stable fully zoomed in (in 4K the cropped range is equivalent to that of 37-592mm). Be aware though, the FZ1000's handling noise is very loud. The zoom motor and stabilization (is always required to support the lens, so even switched off noise is audible) are really noisy (in a quiet environment) and picked up by the built-in stereo mic. You really want to go and use a dedicated video mic accessory, like the ones from RØDE (I have the budget Takstar SGC-598 and iShoot PL-MIC02 video mics on the way to try out), which for starters is always a good thing to do if you're somewhat serious about videoshooting (and videozoom is more or less a no-go anyways, unless you're going for comedic effect or something). In terms of noise. It's definitly not on par with the GH4. But you can get great results up to ISO400. ISO800 is still fine enough. ISO1600 gets a bit tricky, but if you need it, you'll still find it workable. And anything above will be highly questionable to pass off as usable footage (although the deteriation from ISO3200 to ISO6400 is really immense and compared make ISO3200 still look pretty okay). Still, they grain is one of a nicer kind, it's rather organic and random. Doesn't really seem to effect highs and lows (dark areas are surprisingly clean), but mids suffer quite a bit. Shooting 4K helps to hide the noise a bit. If you do not touch the noise reduction (keep it at zero, not minus five) and apply some neat video in post, noise won't be much of an issue for regular shooting. I haven't gotten around to shoot a lot lately though (lots of work and got and am still ill), but I'll see if I can come up with some shareable footage.

Maybe it depends on what implementation of RAW they would use... DNGs? ProRes? About the Olympus FW update... I still can't imagine they'd suddenly start caring about video so much. And it seems too sketchy to be wanting to do that with a stabilized sensor and the excessive heat build-up such recordings would generate. It's just not possible to out of nowhere make it a 4K video camera that would win over people considering let's say the GH4, which from the start was all about the (4K) video as key selling feature. You just can't add such goodness as an afterthought. But I guess we'll see. I would love it if they'd tinkered on the E-M1's videomode. Just good 4K seems a little far-fetched and highly imaginative.

True that, very interesting. I have also considered getting the GM1 in the past. You throw on the 12-35mm or the 14mm or 20mm pancake and you have a really minimalistic and compact way of getting awesome quality shots both for video and photography. It's even smaller than my LX7; and that's a compact camera. And the touchscreen lets you quickly set everything you need. But I don't know, although it spiked my interest, I couldn't really be arsed to go out and buy me one. However... an EVF... that would be cool! I was already waiting for the LX8 to take a crap on Sony's RX100M3, but a GM2... now, that would be something nice. Add that 4K on top of that and I'll almost be like 'shut up and take my money!'. :P There really is a market for gear with superb image quality, that doesn't require you to hassle around with a lot of gear. A swiss army camera if you will. Since the pricedrop of the EOS-M, sneaking below 300 EUR, I almost considered to get that one. Just because of the little formfactor and you can throw Magic Lantern on there and still get quality shots like you would with a 550D or 600D. But the GM2 will be so much better. Especially if they nail the pricing (to be that of the GM1). I guess we'll see!

Yeah, for sure there are pro's and cons to each setup. The built-in stabilization made me go for the OM-D E-M1 too. It's just great with the SLR Magic 25mm T0.95 for example, which is all manual and no electronics of course. I'm curious about the FW update end of the month. Could be interesting. Not sure about this rumoured 4K feature, it can't be real (IBIS and heat!). Maybe a built-in intervalometer with 4K timelapse video output. Although I would already be happy if I could shoot 25p and perhaps gained a few little other convenient features (not as extreme as 4K video), so I wouldn't complain if that's finally happening. For 4K I already have the GH4 and FZ1000, RAW the BMPCC, but you use those differently and surely the A7S is a whole other ballgame. All depends what you can bring and what you're going to shoot (and how you want to shoot it). Also, if you are into photography as well as video, I'd say you're well equipped with an Olympus. But yeah, again, it all depends. I think the E-M5 will be of great value to you. Yeah, I've got the 50mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.7 and 25mm f/1.4 c-mount lenses from eBay and Tindeal. They're fun, but imho they are what they are: just 'toy lenses'. It was fun when I only had the GH2 with kit lens, but you'll want more. If you want to spend a little, but just a little only, there are some great vintage lenses you can buy that are built like a tank and optically awesome. You'd have to be careful with oiled up or stuck aperture blades, fungus, excessive dust, scratches and clean-up marks and stuff, but if you go on eBay you'll find quite a few in excellent condition. Mind you, just about every lens has a minimal amount of dust inside, those few microscopic particles won't hurt your image though. Or if you only want new, get the Sigma 19mm or 30mm EX DN f/2.8. Those are optically awesome and native mount electronic too. Not the highest of quality build perhaps, but dirt cheap, especially since now they continued the two within the ART series and sell those for more. And those new ones have a smooth focusring, so the old, more grippy one is better anyways.
