  1. ​Well, as a liveview shooter (the D5300 was my first non-mirrorless), hybrid shooting on the D5300 isn't the greatest experience there is, so I need to either give in and start appreciating the OVF or perhaps give up on stills altogether. Then there's the thing that I have a bunch of vintage and third party lenses and the most I can get of them now is from a 16MP M43 sensor... so it would be actually kinda nice to have those 24MP albeit full manual operation, since the only native lens for the Sony would then be the kitlens that comes with it. Atleast it would still have some mirrorless features mirrored cameras just don't offer. So XAVC-S coming to the A6000 might just seal the deal; was just wondering about the overheating issues. Will have to keep a lookout, maybe I can spot a nice deal. Thanks for the input.
  2. Only twice had something. One time a lens came with a stuck aperture. One time it was a different lens altogether. The first gave me a partial refund the 2nd sent me the correct lens and told me to keep the other as well. Do have to admit, both times it was a lens from the USA. Hum. Never had such problems with items from the European continent... Anyways. Hopefully you get it sorted! Would definitly be interested to see the mix 'n match.

  4. There was a little discussion on lights a little while ago, maybe it's of any use to you: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/8033-led-lighting-fresnels-redheads-etc/ . From the recent NAB 2015 one of the highlights seems to have been the Wescott Flex: http://www.fjwestcott.com/led-lighting/flex . Can't really give you any recommendations as all I got myself is some low-end stuff: Aputure AL-H160, AL-198 & AL-198C LED video lights with 2 stands (König KN-LS10) & 1 ministand (PhotoSEL ST121) and one eBay ringlight softbox.
  5. If you need 24mm at 35mm equivalent then it's 24/1.6 (crop factor FX<->DX) = 15mm. That would for example be a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 (II). More here. - ah, excuse me, as King Julian pointed out correctly a few comments below of course the Canon APS-C format cameras are the ones with 1.6x crop. For Nikon it's 1.5x. Honest mistake.

The AX100 has the biggest sensor and I remember when they first released footage, I was rather impressed (although it felt a bit videoey and oversharpened): The JVC GY-HM170E would have that dual card slot you were talking about...

  11. I would've liked for Canon to have ripped out the mirror and OVF on the 760D and to have gone with an EVF and 4K. Same for Nikon with their D5500 (as a hybrid shooter I find the D5300 especially frustrating on this front, liveview shooting experience is terrible, my first OVF camera and it felt like a huge step back (image is trully great though)). Not something EOS M or Nikon V, but more like Panasonic's GH4 and Samsung's NX1. Nice ergonomic sizeable body with a bunch of controls and buttons. Decent if not good batterylife. Vari-angle display is a must I'd say! The 550D/T2i, 7D and 5DmkII really started something. But since then... boy o boy. They sure milked that 18MP sensor, didn't they? And I mean... from the 650D to the 700D they've added a dial to not only turn clockwise but also counter clockwise, filter effect preview in liveview and a different rubber coating. That's all they did and a 'new' model was born. Atleast the Nikons have gotten 1080/60p and atleast the 1080p actually looks great there. Now, finally there's a new sensor... but has anything else really changed? There's HDR video on the 760D! Yay! Oh, wait, it's 720p restricted. What else? Well, not much really. Pretty much the same functionality as before. Why would anyone want to start off their path with Canon anymore? I'm afraid Aaron's right. People just don't know any better and video enthusiasts like us only form a relatively small target audience. That's why I'm glad Panasonic, Sony, Samsung and Blackmagic aren't forgetting about us/are glad that they have a stake in the availlability of 4K material. I would be interested if they could recreate the success of the T2i and 5DmkII. One entry level and one more professional level camera that would hold a 2015/2016 standard. But then again, even if they did, given their trackrecord... would you really put your money on Canon still? Yes, their C-line is quite something, but let's not forget, so is the price... And with a lot of people shooting hybrid, have to keep it low budget or just want a small solution or just need stuff like slowmo... you're better served elsewhere.
  12. ​Because people enthusiastic about video (with a photography backgroud) bought into the Canon system (550D/T2i/7D/5DmkII and lenses). Now Canon is falling behind. Nikon on the other hand never really was in front to begin with. Although I do have to say I was kinda tempted to get the D750 myself... more so than for example Canon's 5DmkIII. Atleast great about Nikon is their lenses are easily adapted with aperture control...
  13. Woah, that's totally awesome! Cool idea. I agree on the small footprint cameras if you travel around a lot (that's why I'm a M43 kinda guy myself, the LX100 rocks and the GH4 is pretty sweet (although sometimes it's neither of these for travelling, as I then might take the FZ1000 with me). The BMPCC is great, but travelling and its batterylife... not sure). I like the idea of rigging small cameras up big time, but also like the fact that I can also take the same small cameras and keep it compact. So because of that a 5DmkIII, D750 or even A7S is more or less out of the question for me as it's not even only the body, but the fullframe covering lenses as well. And indeed, a small camera will be less intimidating/drawing attention too. So great choice there! Seems to have worked out great.
  14. Wowzahs. Sony upping the ante. That's good for the market! Take notice Nikon & Canon! Too bad the IV can only record 4K up to 5 mins. Seemed to have figured out fast readouts, now we need something against overheating, that doesn't include a cooldown period after a couple of minutes shooting. Too bad indeed no A7SII yet. With image stablization could be quite something. But perhaps the A7RII surprises!

  17. Yeah, jax has beaten me to it. The MV88 looks nice for on-the-go, but clearly states it's iOS devices only indeed (kinda same idea as the i-XY: http://www.rode.com/microphones/ixy ). The rest of the range should be compatible from what I get from the broshure ( http://cdn.shure.com/brochure/upload/78/motiv-brochure-english.pdf ). Anyways. That aside. About your own little solution. Now, how does that actually work? What is your used brand/type of mobile phone then? And just to get this straight... you're then using the smartphone's mic? And where does 'a wifi stick' come in play exactly? Perhaps you can upload it using https://www.mediafire.com or https://soundcloud.com for example.
  18. Actually inexpensive would be something 18650 powered. Like something with a XM-L2 U3 BIN (e.g. UltraFire C8). DISCL. Not sure at which lumens of exposure your sensor could fry though, so try at own risk
  19. Depends... on what other lenses, if any, you already own. And what your style of shooting is. But to narrow it down... I'd say both the 14mm f/2.5 II and perhaps the 20mm f/1.7 II especially are pretty sweet. These are called pancakes for a reason: really compact, so makes for awesome low profile shooting. I remember the days when all people did was taking their hacked GH2 with a 20mm f/1.7 and go out and shoot! Don't see much talk about them pancakes anymore these days. Such a pity. But you might actually want to go with the brand spanking new 42.5mm f/1.7 OIS as it kicks ass quite a bit. Optically pretty much up there with Olympus's counterpart, the 45mm f/1.8 and one of the very few OIS primes for the system. Previously we only had the Leica, not Lumix, branded 42.5 Nocticron and 45mm Elmarit. So now there's the Lumix branded 30mm f/2.8 macro and the mentioned 42.5mm f/1.7, still with OIS, but way more affordable. Mind you, the OIS isn't mindblowing, but if you value handheld shooting with a light sensitive prime without it going all Cloverfield on ya... I'm not sure what else. N'espresso. With these kind of crop sensors and especially with shooting video I think it's more useful to have lenses below 140mm. You're really going to struggle at the wide end. Don't really see much use myself for the 45-150, 45-175 and 45-200mm. Perhaps if you're a hybrid shooter and sometimes just like to take pictures of wildlife or something... but then again, there's the 100-300mm for that. That kinda leaves the 35-100mm, but... if you're already getting the allround all-purpose 14-140mm kitlens... Not sure. Would be more sure if it was the 35-100mm f/2.8 constant aperture we were talking about. Not one I own, but heard/seen good things about it. The 14-140mm. Seen quite a bit complaining about micro jitter. My biggest issue personally is the look Panasonic lenses give off, perhaps the new OIS primes and expensive Leica branded (the ones mentioned + both 15 and 25mm Summiluxes) aside. For photography: absolutely great to have. For video... if you're going for a videoey camcorder look perhaps. Otherwise I would prefer other lenses. A good reason to go M43 is the adaptability of other system's lenses (with or without (smart) focal reducer/lens turbo/speedbooster). Both vintage and modern. Might actually be somewhat of a rare thing... spotting someone around here actually rockin' a Panasonic lens on their Panasonic camera.

  21. ​Great deal! If I'd be looking at that combo new, I'd be spending 2599,- EUR according Geizhals.eu ... I did see a 2nd hand NX1 pop up for 959,- though. ​Yeah, I'm with you on that one. I love the better lens compatibility and large choice of native lenses (especially for hybrid shooters). Don't forget the vari-angle display! The color and native crop on the NX1 are pretty nice of course. Just hoping the VLOG is coming to the GH4 soon!
  22. Nice shots and montage. Keep it up. Not sure about the music used. The riding and tricks themselves are perhaps already hard to give a bit of an epic touch, selecting a bit mellow music might dull things down a little. Different tracks might've worked better there, but perhaps you've wanted to do a different approach to skating/scootering videos by not picking your typical upbeat song. But then again, must be a reason it's typical. Matter of taste perhaps. Also, be careful with black cuts like in the first video at around 0:35 there's two of 'em, if you were actually pushing smooth transitions before. It's a bit disruptive imho.
  23. The Nebula 4000 is already over the peak of its popularity I think. Now there's the Ronin M and the Pilotfly H1 of which the results seem quite a bit nicer. It's nice that the Nebula 4000 made the pistol grip gimbal a thing... but I always felt it was too much hassle and looked like it was digitally correcting itself, it wasn't as fluid as I'd like. Dave Dugdale seems to be testing all of these, check him out over at https://www.youtube.com/user/drumat5280/videos . Don't forget MrCheesycam and Erik Naso either: https://www.youtube.com/user/MrCheesyCam/videos and https://www.youtube.com/user/ErikNaso . If you don't have immediate use for it, wait a couple of months more. These systems are maturing as we go, so there are bound to be better options out in the near future. - Ah, I've read up on Pilotfly's doings... there's now the H1+ that sports a 32bit controller with dual imu sensor. Definit upgrade from the 8bit controller. Good news.
