Zach Ashcraft reacted to henryp in What bugs me with B&H - Switching to Amazon
There seem to be two issues here -- our schedule and deleted product reviews. One at a time. B&H's schedule is on our site at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/HelpCenter/HoursOfOperation.jsp.There are two week-long events but in general I think the comment, "many weeks per year" is hyperbole. We appreciate some days we're closed do not conform to mainstream US or Christian holidays but they are unavoidable. We take pains to ensure customers are aware of each event well in advance with notices on our site, our Facebook profile, Twitter, our email newsletters etc. You wrote, "I didn't pay attention..." I am sorry you did not but I do not think it is reasonable to hold that against us. YMMV
Reviews get vetted by PowerReviews before we get them and are then vetted again by us before they're published. Once they are, anyone can click to flag a review for any reason at all. That immediately takes the review offline until it can be vetted yet again. If you have an issue with one or more particular reviews please email henryp[at]bhphoto.com and I'll be happy to inquire.
Once upon a time, 20 years ago this may have been true but today our staff is as diverse as NYC itself.
Some employees are Hasidic; some are non-Hasidic orthodox Jews; some are less observant or non-observant Jews. Some are Christians or Muslims or
Zoroastrians. At least one is an outspoken atheist. There's no "reserve in NJ." There are communities in NJ and in suburban NY and in Brooklyn where like minded families tend to live near one another for support and convenience. The buses are run by a private company with no relationship to B&H or to our management. Some smart person saw a business opportunity and began a bus service. Anyone who wishes can by a one-day or monthly ticket and ride. I don't but I'm the atheist and I don't live near the bus routes so I use Metro-North. Regarding Christian holidays, we're closed Christmas Day.

I'm excited for the C100 III because it'll drive down the used price of C100 IIs.

It's good, not exceptional. The Dual Pixel AF is pretty nice, although you're hamstrung by the lack of touchscreen AF. Solid 1080p, but no 4K.

Don't know, but apparently the 1DC did not sell as much as Canon had hoped... Maybe because it was basically the same camera as the 1DX MkI but with a few more video features and a few less still camera feature and a huge price markup? In any case, the 1DX Mkii is the best of both worlds. And I for one do like both still and video features in my cameras, and the 1DX Mkii, while not perfect, does seem to check quite a few important boxes.

One day, when Canon finally releases a 4K shooting camera with Canon Log and an ideal codec, I'll be able to make a film. Until then...

    Here's Reid's new video:

It's funny, though, because prior to DSLRs all we wanted was HD video with interchangeable lenses. Now we want 10-bit 4k at 120fps in the same package. I'm not complaining, I want it, too. It's just that the lower end of the market will always have the leftovers from the higher end. Kinefinity TERRA for the win.

If I had the money I'd buy a 1DXII in a heartbeat. The image looks beautiful and in terms of usability, I love the form factor and touch + DPAF combo. Hoping some of this functionality makes its way to the 5d4

Zach Ashcraft reacted to rdouthit in Nikon D500 vs. Sony FS7 4k Color Comparo
Today I put a Nikon D500 vs. my Sony FS7 to see if I could get a comparable look out of each with minimal fuss. I was pretty impressed with the results.
Details: In this video we shot several scenes on both the Sony FS7 $8000 cinema camera and the new $2000 Nikon D500 DSLR. The Sony was in Cinema EI mode and shot on Slog3.cine with an Alexa-like LUT applied (Sony provided), it then received minor saturation and luma tweaks. The Nikon was shot using the Flat color mode and it too received saturation and luma tweaks. With more tweaking we're sure we could get color even closer but this was to test a quick grade since not everyone is a color master. We feel this is an easily-achievable match for almost any video editor. One thing to note is that the FS7 has a mountain more color information at its disposal. The Nikon requires that footage be shot correctly from the start.
The Nikon was equipped with the Tokina 11-20 f/2.8 lens, the Sony camera used the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 DX.

Why, because i'm not an idiot?
I don't own a Canon product (you have just bought one though, right?)... I don't give a shiny shite who produces the image making machine I use... I just cannot deal with the level of idiocy shown on here at times.... I'd post exactly the same if someone were trying to make a big deal out of the Sony quarterlies, Samsung etc....
Misinformation is not helpful to this industry, your blog or your forum.

I can't even go into the futile use of your income analogy, you may as well use an analogy about pink snakes and bicycles, it is so ridiculously off.
I would go look up phrases like "you have to spend money to make money" and "speculate to accumulate".... They are a bit more apt here.
You did however underline my theory that people are actually willing Canon to fail, simply because they didn't make a certain camera that suits their specific needs.
We all get a bit annoyed a feature hold back, pricing etc... But I am first and foremost a professional that uses tools to make money, so can respect products like the 1D-X II and C300 mk II and disregard the things that are not targetted at me, like the 800D.

"Continue to die" ... talk about over statement!
You do realise that the report also says they made a PROFIT of $360m .... Profit, not sales, not income... Profit.
Why do people throw out all logic just because a brand hasn't made the indie camera they want? Yes, they need to diversify, as both the camera and printer businesses are taking a hit due to mobile and internet tech, but they are still a massive company with fingers in all kinds of pies. They are still head and shoulders the pro choice of still shooters and have a heavy involvement in pro AV too. They are beginning to get into the niche imaging markets and no doubt have involvement in stuff like 3D printing and mobile sensor tech.
They might be making less profit in one quarter (you know, 3 months), but dying... haha.... I think people actually want it to be true too, just because they haven't sunk as low in price as Sony and Lumix. Imagine that... wanting a huge brand to die out, just because they don't make the camera that ticks your very specific set of boxes. God love the internet.

People really need to stop looking at quarterlies and making sweeping statements. You are trying to analyse a drop in profits without ANY of the variable overheads and cost info to hand. It is next to useless.... None of us know what outlay they made in that quarter in a certain segment, knowing that Q2 or Q3 will then show a significant gain because of that investment.
You only have to look further down that article ... They purchased several companies, last year... Maybe some of those purchases skewed Q1's profits as they transitioned them into the main company?

As someone with my 1DX Mkii order in, I can tell you my main gripe is the omission of c-log. Clearly this was a deliberate omissions, and a major disappointment, considering even entry level Nikons include a log profile. Seriously Canon... with a list price of $6400... no c-log? WTF?

Didn't you just buy a XC10? I think you bad mouth Canon to push the prices down so you can buy them on the cheap
I'd place money on you owning a 1D-X II within the year!

They have been using it for quite some time with great results. Definetelly shows a segment where the camera is great.
This is mainly a "film maker" forum. But we sometimes seem to forget that not everyone of Panasony and Canikons customers are.
Some are videomakers like Jared and some are still photographers, again like Jarred.
Thats why I sometimes have an issue with the "only an idiot would..", "thats crap because..." and "why does Canon..." type of attitude on every single product that doesnt also serve as a perfect tool for shooting a narrative movie.
