Thanks for your advise. The reason that I love the Bolex Moller 19/1,5 is because of it size. It is so easy to shoot hand held, with the DNA, I scare it will be too big, since the rear thread for DNA is 75mm and the front thread for Bolex Moller 19/1,5 is only 39mm....... and I don't know will it affect the performance?

I love my Baby Hypergonar in my 3FF-S. It does have a rotating front, which sucks for polarizers. You could put your Moller in a threaded clamp and then use CORE DNA. That is what I do with my other Baby Hypergonar. Similar in size to Moller.

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum, I hope I can get some professional opinions form this forum. I currently own 2 anamorphic lenses, the Bolex Moller 19/1,5x and the 32/1,5x. I contacted John and trying to get more information before I made the decision either I should buy the Rectilux Core DNA or the 3FF-S, he told me that for the Bolex Moller 19/1,5x, the 3FF-S is the best option, and for the  Bolex Moller 32/1,5x, the Rectilux Core DNA will be better. My question is, instead of buying both of the Rectilux, should I try to find and buy an Iscorama? At the end, the cost will be similar.

Why not get one CORE DNA and use it with all your anamorphic lens. The DNA does not have a rotating front. I think the 3FF-S does? I get sharp images at f1.2 with Core DNA. Iscorama lowest f stop is f2.8 for sharpness I believe. Just my advice.

Can someone tell me what the advantage would be of the full Rectilux 3FF over this core DNA?

One advantage on the Rangefinder would be focus marks, but I'd choose non rotation of glass to be more important.

I have used the 77mm to 75mm step down ring and have not noticed any vignetting with the CORE DNA. That step down ring is stupid rare. If I were you, why not just put the front of the anamorphic into the back of the CORE DNA and align / tighten down with hex screws? You will not hit the back of the CORE DNA if you have a 72mm step ring in front. I find it quicker and more stable just loosen and tighten three screws verses the screwing in. Both will work.

Me personally, I would avoid a lens with fungus unless you know you could clean it out. A trusted lens technician I know said to avoid fugues in lens to avoid spreading spores to the other lens. I don't know but if it's a great deal and you have lens in safe and dry area or case then go for it.

I have seen many great samples from so many different anamorphic lens and adapters on this forum. Kowa's SANKOR 16C, Bell and Howell, Moller Anamorphot 32/2x are others lens to check out as well. Just go for the lens that speaks to you and you can afford.

  5. Well... first off the -Hypergonar Baby 1.75x is going to be hard to find. You will have better luck taking a picture of Big Foot.

The Hypergonar Hi fi 2 has a lovely cinematic image but is very cumbersome from what I hear and a beast to use. Might be worth it.

-Hypergonar mini STOP 2x - There is a nice one on eBay now with a descent price. I almost want to buy it. Have to many. It's addicting.

There are also mounts available and videos on line as you know.

I went crazy for two years until I got my hands on a Baby Hypergonar. I will be taking it to the grave. I'm sure someone here might dig me up for it ;) Get what you can and use it and keep an eye out.

    Cheers!

Very nice.. the framing and color grading reminds me of the epic films of the 60's, especially the landscape shots.

Thanks so much! That's the magic of the Baby Hypergonar :). I feel the same and can push the look in a more vintage or modern direction based on what my taken lens is. I'm old school to where I use filters and lens to create the look and color. I really don't due much with grading but crush blacks, add contrast and level out the image. Thanks Tellure!

Perfect thanks again for the info it's been a great help! Finally have the Kowa in my hands and it looks pretty great! Some light cleaning marks on the front but otherwise very nice from my eye. Just working on making a nice hard mount for it on some rails to start. Next step is order the Core DNA and send the pair off for machining and fine adjustments.

I be interested to see your setup once machining is done. I shot this with my Inflight with three different taken lens. Two vintage and one modern. Was slightly off on my height calculation. I had it at 62% and it should 57%.

    Hey everyone,

I've been watching these forums for years and contemplating when to jump on a anamorphic solution. I think my "patience" might have paid off as I just acquired this beauty of a lens that is just a BEAST of glass. From the little I could find about it online it seems to be one of the highest quality optics around made for 35mm film projectors on airlines back in the day. Currently it is still on its way to me so i'm hoping it arrives without any damage. Once it gets here i'm thinking of getting a Core DNA from Rectilux to make it a viable single focus solution. Any core dna useres out there that can vouch for it's quality? Might need to do some machining though to get the Core DNA to fit from what i've been told.

Anyone on here have one of these bad boys that can shed some light on working with this setup feel free to share would love to know more about this lens! Will post actual pics when it arrives!

Was able to find one for sale on ebay currently but feel lucky I found another source hah...how rare are these really?

I saw this a few weeks before you ;) Almost bought it but I already have 2 and have the CoreDNA as well. It's very nice. I compared it to the Bell and Howell and it was much sharper and shines the same as the Kowa 35 1.5x. Jim at Rapido designed a  front filter holder of 77mm and a back connecter for me. Works well but Hans set up is very nice :) http://www.rapidotechnology.com/products-services/customized-step-up-down-rings/adapter-for-kowa-lens/kowa-pa-35-in-flight

  10. I just finished a video that is a collection of shots from my trip to Tehran during May of 2016. I hope you enjoy some of the sights I captured of this beautiful city. GH4 4k Baby Hypergonar 1.75x anamorphic with Linos MeVis 35mm f1.6 and the Zeiss Ultron 50mm f1.8. Rectilux 3FF-S, Marumi + 3 achromatic diopter and Fujinon ENG 72mm close up lens. Edited in Adobe Premiere and colored using Colorista III.

Exotic and beautiful work. :)   Were you using a fast shutter instead of ND on this?

Funny that you ask. I have a few spots on my GH4 sensor from shooting outdoors so much so all my footage is shot between f2-f4 with a fast shutter. I like this look because of the  added DOF and how it captures the nature. Thanks for checking it out!

  12. Shot with Panasonic GH4 in cinematic DCI 4K 4096x2160 in ultra wide 3.31:1 anamorphic ratio.. Lens used were the Baby Hypergonar  1.75x anamorphic with MeVis 35mm f1.6 and the Zeiss Ultron 50mm f1.8. Rectilux 3FF-S, Marumi + 3 achromatic diopter and Fujinon ENG 72mm close up lens. Hello Ian,

Very nice topic you made here, thanks!

Can I ask you please what diameter should I buy for my Recilux 3FF-W?

    Have a nice day.

Hello, I'm not sure what you mean? Here is an article on the Recilux 3FF-W. http://www.newsshooter.com/2016/01/27/real-anamorphic-for-less-the-rectilux-3ff-w-single-focus-adapter-reviewed/

I have the Core DNA, which has a 75mm thread and can take lens of that size or smaller by locking down with grub screws. I also have a 3FF-S for baby anamorphic lens but I don't know much about the 3FF-W. All the Recilux adapters are very nice and have made shooting with any anamorphic lens I choose look good! Worth the money for me. Super sharp and no loss of image quality and no silly blue blobs. Unless your into that sort of thing ;)
