My plan is to see if I can replace Pro bitrate from 80 Mbps with something else, say 47 Mbps (my age  :)) for example, without otherwise touching the menu system or firmware internals.

Good idea, the angle could be:
Samsung abandons their loyal nx1 customers, but a community tries to keep the future of the camera alive.

Please don't put words in my mouth. I never said we should treat people differently. I also didn't say that someone should change their beliefs.
What I said that we should not be afraid to change bad religious traits. So in a way modify religion.

Sexual or racial discrimination is very different than any "cultural" discrimination such as religion. The first group is something that you are born with and thus cannot change whereas the second group is learned and modifiable.
Humanity improves through modifications of the latter and failure to observe and analyze any cultural meme due to political correctness will undeniably lead us to decadence.
Now correlation does not mean causation. So of course being a hasidic jew does not mean you are going to have a company that does not care about its workers or being a Muslim does not mean you are radical. But at the same time there are common religious traits that can influence human behavior, such as inferiority of heathens, and should be called out and modified for the sake of humanity.

I know there are very orthodox Christian businesses like "Hobby Lobby" and "In and Out" Burger, and Chick Fil A.  Hobby Lobby getting into an incredibly amount of trouble in how it handles its female employees and contracetive needs. In and Out Burger seems to treat its workers well.  Denny's on the other hand, I think was racist in its practices. And Chick Fil A, how they handled the gay marriage movement was horrible.
I don't personally see a correlation in this case with the Hasidic.  Adorama, I think is run by Orthodox Jews as well, and they have an excellent record of human rights and labor rights.
I think you need to view each company on a company-per-company business, or you can run the trap into religious profiling.
But with that said, it seems (and this is refuted I think) that Hasidic culture views non-Jews as "non-human" - http://mondoweiss.net/2014/01/haaretz-orthodox-taught/
And potentially a theory why at the country's largest Kosher meat plant, there were meth labs:
    https://consumerist.com/2008/05/19/immigration-raid-reveals-meth-lab-at-nations-largest-kosher-meat-plant/
A lot of liberals like me will not talk about this, cause they fear being labeled "anti-Semitic."  For me personally, I'm Jewish, so that protects me slightly. But what I find frusterating about the PC liberal movement, is that we quickly bash as much as possible any ultra-Christian group like Chick Fil A or Hobby Lobby without even batting an eye, but allow , because of political correctness, to shield other potential ethical and human rights abuses.
Whether the Hasidic culture has a negative view of non-Jews, I still have a Hasidic friend at my post office.  We should all look past what a culture preaches, and judge people individually.

Wow. Amazing the department of labor report.
No bathrooms for female workers.  Seperate bathrooms for whites and nonwhites..  Firing workers for collective bargaining. Nice bathrooms for white employees, unsanitary bathrooms for Hispanic workers.
And this is from the department of labor.  Great links, thanks.
    ANd also:
Occupational Safety & Health confirmed the reports of the horrible work conditions in the factories, which contradict the PR person who has been posting on here, his statements.
So the department of health, and the occupational safety and health industry both conflict with his statements.
Hmmm, the chance that this paid employee of B&H is hiding things, I feel, is pretty high.
Maybe he isn't aware of what's going on behind the scenes.
I mean, after all, he's just the head of PR.

    Hey Andrew,
I appreciate the response, and I'm glad you like the content Chris and I put out. We look forward your feedback on anything we produce, and I've gained a lot of useful information and insight from this blog and the message boards.

However, I feel that essentially calling out the entire review community for being in Sony's pockets is excessive. If you were in North America and wanted to test a production A6300 before launch, the only way to do it was to fly to Miami for the press event. I wish that it was an option to have the camera shipped to us in Calgary for testing at that time, as I have other productions and a family to focus on outside of my TCSTV work. But the A6300 is such an important camera that we agreed to spend a few very busy, not at all relaxing days testing the camera out. You have to remember that this is a time when a huge number of enthusiasts pre-order their camera before launch, so these pre-release videos can serve a very useful purpose.
Most of the other journalists and reviewers I spoke with felt similarly. I'm sure a few odd ones didn't use the time to properly test the camera and wrote puff pieces about the camera and G-Master lenses, but many of us spent 16-20 hour days trying to make sure we had accurate impressions. I'd hate to see all of these people lumped together as shills for Sony.
It's a huge compliment that you see us as an honest, respectable source, and we appreciate you embedding our video on the blog post. Chris appreciates your beard-envy.  We hope you keep watching!

    Hey Jordan
No way! It kills me to have a misunderstanding like this
I am an avid follower of your videos at The Camera Store, I absolutely love then
I featured your video on the blog purely out of love for what you do and to draw attention to it.
I'd have a hard time passing that off as my own!! Berlin might be cold but it's not that cold!! I do not have a stunning beard. I do not have Chris's strange accent either
The PR comment wasn't aimed at you guys
    *At all*
I get involved with the manufacturers and try to build a relationship, I go to the events organised by PR companies to try out the cameras early when I can fit it in, nothing wrong with this and all reviewers do it. I didn't realise you and Chris just got back from a Sony press event so it was a really stupidly badly timed comment on my part.
No one can deny there's generally a subversive whitewashing going on due to so much PR in the consumer electronics world but YOUR reviews are NOT like that... I like to think we remain balanced about negatives and unbiased and thinking of our content rather than our relationship with the manufacturers and this is totally what sites like ours do... We shoot from the gut and we are outspoken.
I can't tell you how sorry I am for this misunderstanding it is terrible...
I'm up for a chat on the phone if it helps solve any issues
    Sorry - Andrew

I think you're being too harsh really.
Running a 6K sensor fast enough to reduce rolling shutter takes a large heat sink and an FS5 or even FS7 size body.
I don't expect them to do that in a tiny tiny mirrorless camera for $1k, why do you?
You've gotta understand what it is trying to do here... read out 2160 lines of 6K in 34ms with no fan and pretty much nothing in the way of heat sink apart from the poorly heat conducting composite shell of the body itself.
By all means take a Canon that line skips through 1080 lines of 2K, pixel binning as it goes... in exchange for a bit less rolling shutter (20ms-ish instead of 30ms-ish)
Doesn't seem like much of a deal to me.
Plus rolling shutter you can fix in post. Moire you cannot.
No touch screen and questionable button placement, fair enough... it should have been better in these areas.
I am going out to buy mine now in Berlin and will report back later.
If the X-T2 gets 4K then it also gets less or virtually no moire by default, as 4K is almost always a full pixel readout aside from when the megapixel count is ridiculously high like in full frame mode on the A7R II (42MP).

NX1 rolling shutter is pretty awful, too, and many people complained about it.

Rolling shutter, 1080p is fairly soft, 1080p 120fps is very soft, no headphone jack, questionable button placement, no touchscreen, battery life. If it fits your style of shooting then that's great.

NX1 rolling shutter is pretty close and I haven't seen many people complain about it.
But heck why spend just $1000 for a oversampled 4K log-capable camera with very good low light quality capabilities and very good AF in a tiny body when there are so many more expensive options right?

iamoui reacted to Oliver Daniel in My first music video shot on A7SII is finally released!
So yep... I've been shooting with the A7SII pretty extensively on a bunch of music videos.
This particular video is narrative-only, shot in Whitby UK within 6 hours with a crew of 5 people including make up artist.
My duties? I wrote the idea, shot, lit, graded and edited the video in FCPX.
Most of the video was shot in natural light. One night scene was lit with Lupolux Dual LEDs and Scorpion Lights, powered by batteries (lifesaver!). The sun was going down quick and we used the A7SII up until ISO 12,800.
Picture profiles were custom Slog2 profile and also custom Cine2, shot in 4k 25fps.
We used the Sony CLM-FHD monitor on the camera (very useful). Would never used the camera without a monitor again unless desperate. Camera remains light and easy to use.
Gimbal shots were on the Ronin-M, with the full IBIS activated with the Sony Vario-Tessar 24-70mm - operated in upright mode. Fantastic combination.
Handheld lenses were Sigma 18-35mm (used at 35mm), Samyang 14mm and Helios 44-2 85mm (bloody well hard lens to focus!).
This video wouldn't of been possible to shoot in 6 hours without the A7SII. The aesthetic helped the video with it's murky look, and the portability with IBIS was awesome. Helped keep us on our toes and be creative with the shots.
Issues? I went through 9 batteries and er, the zip on my coat broke and er... I got a wet ass?... that's about it.
I'll let you guys decide what you think the story is about and all that jazz.
    Hope you enjoy it!!

Yeah I payed $1600 for the NX1, 16-50 S, 30/2, 16/2.4, 45/1.8 and an extra battery. And Im sure I could have gotten it cheaper.
So image/dollar is definitely the NX1.
Between the a7sii and a6300 would probably go a7sii if money wasnt an issue.

Funnily enough they discontinued Canon FD lenses in the 80's and they are still easy to get on eBay in 2016 so I wouldn't worry about anything NX1 related becoming 'unobtainable' any time soon, if anything it will just get cheaper, which is nice.
The NX1 is by far the most pleasant to shoot with ergonomically. Feel in the hand is great. My hand and the A7S II have never got on very well. It doesn't quite feel as bad as clutching a bag of nails but it does feel like clutching a soulless badly designed camera body with fiddly badly placed buttons, for sure.
NX1 fits like a glove and your hand wraps most comfortably around the most important controls.
I even prefer it to a Canon 5D body and that says a lot.
A6300 is cute, small, but still just as soulless and fiddly ergonomically as the A7S II. As for the image we'll have to wait and see... I am going to do a comparison with the NX1. I think for the money it is great. Unless you need the in-body stabilisation and headphone jack of the A7S II, then the A6300 will serve you just fine especially with Speed Booster and it can do 12,800 pretty comfortably from what I have seen of the early footage. I rarely go higher than that. NX1 meanwhile will give you better colour straight off the card, no fuss to grade, better ergonomics, top panel LCD, weather sealing and sharper 120fps... Super clean ISO 800. ISO 1600 ok. ISO 3200 starts to get bad.

    Good news, bad news.

Good news is that I have learned a lot about the srp( samsung reconfigureable processor) architecture. Bad news. It is very very very very complicated. Machine compiled c into binary. Unknown yet when it is loaded into the firmware and if the .cpp files that are listed are infact that, or just other hard ware controls

So the srp is like an fpga in the way you can change what it does on the fly. It differs in the way that it uses VLIW instead of bits to do its magic.
Reverse engineering the binary into something workable.. is possible, but time will tell if and how much can be changed. The plus side of a simple isp changing values in softwear can do something like what the gh2 hack did. The downside being you are stuck with the hardware.
The plus side of the srp implementation.. Building a custom algorithm to..exchange the hevc codec with something else.. Could be possible. Unknown yet if the nr is a part of this or just a software implementation.

Also if the rumors were true about the ml guys approaching samsung, this would be why it didnt happen. They dont release the srp compiler. One instance of them giving access to it at the SAIT school in Korea is all I could find. very very proprietary.

But the dream for me of having a cheap 14bit 6.5k red competitor is what keeps me going. The confirmation of the UHS-II bus sweetens the deal. Going to investigate the possibility of a SD-SATA converter.. I wouldnt mind having a 1tb ssd attached to the back of the camera.

TL:DR This camera is complex and things are not getting easier but still progression is being made.

Id imagine the image coming out of the NX1 is better overall, but the A6300 should perform better in low light. Also the 2x crop for slow-mo is a huge turn off for me, however, theres a speedbooster to make it FF. I currently own an NX1, and might get an A6300 in the future as a B cam, but I wanna see how it performs, specially concerning rolling shutter/overheating and so on.

A7S II is contrast based AF, the A7R II is phase and contrast hybrid.
Phase detect active with Canon lenses with the Metabones adapter on the latter, it can be very fast.
Lack of native NX lenses, hmm... not really!
    S 16-50mm F2.0-2.8 OIS?
    S 50-150mm F2.8 OIS?
85mm F1.4? (It beats my Zeiss wide open)
    30mm F2.0? Lovely cheap pancake
45mm F2.0? Again very cheap, light, fast and sharp!
Those are the best ones... not a bad line up and covers 16-150 all at fast apertures.
AF is best on the S premium zooms
What else would you need? Plus you can adapt Nikon, Sony Alpha and a ton of other lenses to it with adapters.

Unions, although flawed, cause they are run by humans, which are, like all of us, flawed, are perhaps one of the few innovations of the past two hundred years to prevent exploitation of workers.
They exist in places, because they are needed.
The reverse are countries like China, where they do not care at all for worker's safety, and workers will literally sleep at a job site.
I was offered a job shooting a feature over there were it was 7-days straight for 16 hours a day, for a month. When I asked for a day off or two, they said that was standard working in China.
