  1. Thanks so much for the kindness about suggestions and the fun about discovering my old post, see you in 2 years (like a good wine)! Ahahah

Jokes aside I did few tests during past days with my 7D installing film emulation picture styles and developing RAW shot at about 2500/3200 ISO. I discovered I can tolerate the noise thx to the automatic noise reduction (the chromatic) applied by Lightroom. The problem is that I need to keep the shutter speed pretty low with pretty fast aperture lenses to take those shots, meaning it require a very still subject and me to be very focused. Basically I took sone time to test if I really has no change other than upgrade an in all honesty I think I will understand it after the holidays I'll do in September with my family. I'll bring my 7D and really doing many tests (I can develop the raw files on my iPad).

I'm very grateful for your suggestions.

  2. After many years of using my Canon 7D, I’m considering upgrading to a new camera body. I’m looking for at least an APS-C sensor, but I’m open to full-frame options as well. My budget is around €600, though I can stretch it a bit if necessary. The most important feature for me is clean ISO performance for night photography. If I can’t find a camera that meets this requirement, I might as well stick with my Canon 7D.

My lens collection is quite small, so I’m open to building a new set of lenses if needed. If you think my budget is too low, please let me know, and I can consider increasing it. Any suggestions for a good used camera that fits these criteria? Thanks in advance!

I've always wanted a Blackmagic camera, but the lack of IBIS is the main gotcha for me and my use case. I also wish they put the tilt screen on the 4k from the jump. Better yet, in my opinion, Blackmagic are in the best spot to pioneer a detachable screen you could mount anywhere. You're already providing a large, high quality screen. Just give me a cable and let me mount it wherever the fuck I want! I don't know that the big boy companies could pull that off, but BM has right clientele for it.

I think for the price they're going for on ebay I would rather buy a Sigma fp. The two are neck-and-neck on the used market. I don't know if the fp gets the love it deserves. It was a bold move on Sigma's part. But, hell, by the end of the year Blackmagic may be the only company left selling affordable cameras with a high quality image. Might as well get on board now.

Same for me. If they can make a new model with IBIS I'm very likely sold for it

  4. Hi, I'm still shooting with my old Canon 7D, and I'm looking for a new buy.

Does exist a camera with those features under 1k euros?

feature list: the camera don't overheat; at least "apsc size" sensor; the video is stabilized, zero colored moiré effect; compatible with vintage lenses; having a good codec able to recover darker areas in post producion (good for color grading).

which is it the price for such a camera?

    thx for your attention

    In a word, NO.

There ARE a lot of APSC cameras now that are much better than they used to be.

What zooms are you going to be using?    Why the need for f5, dof?    2.8 would bring a lot more cameras into play (meaning you might only need a usable 12800 or so).

In a pinch how about a Sony APSC camera with a fast prime used as zoom (clearzoom).     Not perfect but it works ok.

Hi thx for help. I need f5.6 because I needs to use zoom lenses as for example 28 - 300mm.
For the majority of the shots I just needs to get closer to the subject from the distance with a tele (that’s why apsc). And the quality must be very good during bad lit places during night.

    I need it for documentaries

Don't do it, unless it's an experiment. Just stick with the approved media unless you want headaches.

IF you do do the experiment, let us know what happens (dropped frames etc).

But the whole thing about this camera I thought it was about be able to shoot HQ RAW video on the budget. A guy told me that the approved media storages are damn expensive.

There is no way to buy cheap storage that works very well for this camera?

as far as i'm aware your editor has to generate them. i know resolve can generate proxies, i have seen it in a menu somewhere. Pretty sure my p4k cant and i'm pretty sure i have played with most of the settings available. Personally i think that would have to be some type of gun camera to record two separate video streams at once but maybe some one out there can prove me wrong. It wouldn't be the first time . i know stills camera can take a raw and jpg at the same time. but i think video with its 24 frames per second is a different kettle of fish compared to stills

    Read here https://www.manualslib.com/manual/994675/Canon-Eos-C300-Mark-Ii.html?page=111

Nobody here use camera proxy workflow instead than process all the footage to create proxy after shooting? Isn’t it a huge waste of time?

  8. Hi, which cameras give us the simultaneous recording of proxy clips? And are those clips useful to smooth the edit workflow for people who use proxy to edit large files as raw format for example? Or do you need to manually create proxy files anyway when you have to start editing?

    Thx

  9. Hi I opened a Premiere project made by someone else. There is this audio clip, I do not know why it doesn't sound. It's completely muted, and there are weird oblique lines on the clip that I don't know the meaning.

How to enable that clip to make it sound please?

    - feature 4 ("All the tracks must have a safety backup track recorded to tot. -db to prevent clipping") is absolutely useless with good preamps and an analog limiter like on MixPre series.

    - All features with MixPre 10T

    - Only 4 preamps with MixPre 6 and limited timecode support.

    - For feature 3 A ambisonic plugin for MixPre 6 and 10T https://www.sounddevices.com/product/ambisonics-plugin/

    - For feature 7,  you need some wireless audio monitoring system like comtek.

thx, do you mean that the MixPre 10T can't make safety backup tracks? For my experience with limiters on the recorder I used I can notice when the limiter is pushin in. but with a safety track is all another story. I really wish to hear an example urgh

  11. Hello,

I need to buy a new audio recorder can you suggest something with those features please?

    1) It’s important I can custom names the files before starting recording, for example the name of the ciak scene, I mean all the info useful for people which will make the post production

    2) I need to record 5 tracks with phantom power

    3) I need full support for ambisonic audio

    4) All the tracks must have a safety backup track recorded to tot. -db to prevent clipping

    5) Very good low noise levels, way much better than another model I already own called Zoom H6 but is not enough. The new one must be so good that I can record room tones (I really need to record good quality room tones for work also).

    6) Full timecode support

    7) I need to send an audio monitor wireless to the script clerk

Low battery consume or offering good solutions for it

I prefere a recent model if possible

    Thx!!!
