Pardon me, but if you look at the details of that test it was complete GARBAGE. The reviewer used the stock settings on each camera to get his result, no tweaks to contrast or black level. Also he used a different lens on each camera.
I agree with Jimmy, if your shooting in this scenario just light him properly and the issue goes away. What is more important in this shot to take note of is the skin tone, which is miles better in the NX1.

Exactly. It has click-bait written all over it

The biggest mistake for me was the ISO 800 vs ISO 12,800 sample images. The images are identical, with the ISO 12,800 having its brightness level upped a little. He could have at least waited for the rowers to change position/exit frame before taking the supposed ISO 12,800 image..
Ah well. Back to waiting on that GH4 firmware update...

I think the Amazon page mock-up with 3 answered questions about a product that doesn't exist yet and dated 13th April is a little suspect.
The dynamic range of 15-16 stops also seems like a rather big leap from 12 in just one generation of Panasonic sensor.
But the biggest giveaway is that Sol says 4K is wider than in HD mode now because of the multi-aspect sensor, whilst saying it takes a 1:1 area for 4K like before. Therefore a 4K of less than 2x crop as he suggests wouldn't be possible, because the sensor is still 16MP.
As for 'a mistake' to publish the blog post early. A mistake is one thing, to Tweet about it and Facebook it quite another
He knows his stuff though! He is welcome to the extra followers, probably deserves it. Nice blog.

Tried some NX1 files (80mbps 4K) with the same settings on my i7 3770 (4 cores 8 threads), 16GB RAM.
I'm getting about 6.0 MB/s and 16 FPS when converting 4 files at once (I can't set Max Jobs higher than 4).
It makes sense your 12 core machine is faster, but how come you get dubble the fps but the data rate is not that much different? Does that depend on the source files?
When using RockyMountain Movie Converter (4K ProRes LT) it says it's working with a bitrate of around 275000 kbps. This translates to around 35MB/s. The 4 files (46 seconds in total) take about 90 seconds to convert.
With Photon the same job is done in 68 seconds. The resulting files from Photon are a lot smaller though (600MB vs 1,5 GB for RMMC) with those settings.
Also just noticed that the files from Photon have less contrast - RMMC seems to clip the blacks and whites where Photon still shows detail. Interesting, because the RMMC file looks the same as the original file when played back, but this might be another playback issue with contrast/blacklevels...

Patents pertaining to these lenses would have expired when Richard Nixon was still in office, and are now in the public domain.  The Auto-Panatars date back to 1958, but Panavision switched from selling stuff to its current rental model back in the mid-1960's.  That means that there should be quite a few of these in private non-Panavision hands.

I wish smartphones had video input options... I'm already walking around with a nice 5" 1080p screen...
The SmallHD 502 on-camera monitor features a Full HD, 1920x1080 LCD display. With a pixel density greater than the iPhone 6 similar to any 5" Android smartphone in the price range of $300-500 that has been released the last few years.

There actually is a very nice wide, bright and native solution coming up: the Voigtlaender 10.5mm f/0.95. Won't be cheap though. Probably well over €1000

Are you serious? A GH3 + Speedbooster + Sigma 18-35 f1.8 (f1.2 with SB) is not bad in low light at all. Sure, there might be better low light camera's, but this isn't bad at all. Also, I need the 50p 1080p for slow mo and I simply like the current look I'm getting. At the time I invested in these camera's, C100's couldn't even do 50p/60p at 1080...
Many people don't take these Panasonic 'toys' seriously but I guess that's actually a good thing.
By the way I forgot to mention that I need this wide angle mainly for the 2nd camera, in this case the G6, to record a wide view of the ceremony.

I ordered the 12mm it should be here within a hour or so. I went with it over the 10 when a guy pointed out that with the 10mm the glass on the front sticks out like a dome and you can not add on a filter to that lens with the dome like that so that killed it for me i need to use a ND filter outside in bright light so i ordered the Cine 12mm version.

I think Panasonic are safe to boost the GH4 firmware without affecting sales of a rumoured AF200.
My hunch is that they will release a firmware update with v-log etc. alongside the announcement of the AF200 so that the GH4 becomes the perfect B Cam for the AF200 with matching colour profiles.
    Maybe a hunch, maybe a hope ;-)

Sigma 8-16mm if you want very wide.
Sigma 10-20mm if you want cheap wide angle (used less than $300)
Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8 (or the previous 11-16mm 2.8) if you want wide + big aperture
Samyang 12mm f/2.0 (comes in NX mount)

Sales doesn't mean jack shit to you and I. We don't profit from any of these companies. We only benefit from forward thinking technology and manageable price points. Look at Beats headphones. 2nd worst reviewed headphones on the market, yet they're extremely popular and have killer marketing.

Canon are going fixed lens mirrorless, so they don't have to introduce a new video-optimised mirrorless lens line-up to cannibalise their EF sales.

Don't worry so much about the iso and look more at the exposure meter on your camera. If shooting in log overexpose by at least 1 stop, if shooting in any other profile (not log) then expose about a quarter less then proper exposure. I've shot perfectly clean 50-100k iso images and didn't really notice noise until after 100k, but up until at least 50k iso it's perfectly clean in Full Frame mode.
Remember the camera can do in noise reduction, I generally think it works great as it only kicks in when it needs it. I would easily push the iso to 50k and have perfectly clean image.

I shot this video around 100K iso at night (indoor train scene) and the intro shots and last final shots (night) of the video were around 200K iso (which is the max I would use)
    Peace
