Just did some research and the Iscorama's single focus mechanism patent is expired.
Hopefully this will lead to some creativity on the part of new anamorphic designs.

My latest short film!!!  "The Quiet Escape."  Shot on the Samsung NX1 with 35mm Nikon AIS f2 lens and Leica R 100mm lens - one shot.  Used Filmconvert and Gorilla Grain to treat it in Davinci Resolve.    Came out so nicely.  THANK YOU EOSHD and Andrew Reid for this camera!!

dahlfors got a reaction from Cosimo murgolo in Dog Schidt Optiks Flare Factory 58 (PL Mount) Review
You can order a FF58 version that is readily fitted to use with an Iscorama anamorphic adapter.
If you don't have an Iscorama, you can also order just an FF58 with the custom options you want: color of flaring, amount of flaring etc. I have two FF58's. One lens with more flaring and less contrast, as well as one lens with less flaring and more contrast. They are fun lenses for creative shooting. I like mine since they tend to produce a look that doesn't seem as digital, boring and strict/perfect as my modern Nikon lenses. I use mine both as standalone lenses as well as paired with the Iscorama.
If you want to experiment with different looks, I can highly recommend getting an FF58 with less contrast and a bit of flare an tint. Very affordable way to get a different vintage look on your footage and stills.

Again depends on the filmmaker and their intentions.
It's a valid form of filmmaking in my book and if we went by what your post implies Rudolf we wouldn't have masterpieces like this...

I think if you don't get the lens and the name, or it upsets you or whatever, you're probably not in the target market. Move on. There are plenty of "serious" companies with inoffensive names that produce technically perfect lenses. The branding is perfect and I love my Dog Schidt!!!!!!

Two interesting rumors for Nikon's cameras: 4k will be introduced to the Nikon 1 series of cameras, and the live view aperture crippling will be removed from D7200. According to nikonrumors D7200 will also feature 720p at 120 fps.

Yes, you can! That would be my exact suggestion.
The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 with a R.J. or Zhongyi lens turbo (or Metabones Speedbooster, or Fotodiox focal reducer, whatevs). Need something wider? Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. Not that wide, like Nick said, the 28-70mm f/2.8 from Nikon is pretty awesome. So is the 80-200mm btw (but you'll need to lock it down).
Btw. I applaud you for taking this step!

Did some tests with the FM. So far loving it, its working perfectly now that I've gotten used to it a little bit and also solved the slouching problem i had initially. It takes some time to get it configured to your rig and camera but oh man smooth rack focusing is orgasmic after a long period of painful double focusing. And I like the fact that it protects the anamorphic glass elements inside. Only downside I see is your rig becoming considerably heavier but thats not always a bad thing. Will do a review and full test at some point.

Samsung releases yet another NX1 firmware update 1.21 this morning. I've been accused of being a Samsung fan boy, which is ridiculous, but I will admit, I am definitely a fan of a company that not only listens, but acts upon it. You have to stop and wonder what they're going to do for an encore.

If you want to mod a 50mm Nikon lens, there's far cheaper alternatives like any of the 50mm f/1.8 or even the 50mm f/1.4 AF-D! Filing down the protruding metal parts will certainly make you lose a lot in possible resale value.
Personally, I'd have a look around for a Canon 50mm f/1.2 and sell the 50mm f/1.2 Nikon. The Canon 50mm f/1.2 performs well, I believe even better than the Nikon (and I'm a Nikon shooter saying this ).

Here is a 2015 test comparing different strengths of Ultracon, low con etc... Some of the filters look drastic, but If you open multiple browser windows side x side and pause the test on Clean, Ultracon, lowcon etc.. you can make a better comparison.  Keep in mind small vs large viewing screens and different focal lengths change the strength of a filters look.  I use Schnieder Digicon a bit, as it lowers highlights by adding black specs in the filter.  As you can see in the test, it is almost like an optical log.   I also have used Hollywood Blackmagic to take the digital edge off, but it isn't included in the test.  Curious how it compares to Glimmer Glass?   http://vimeo.com/116316115

Come on guys.  Lets leave it there.
I understand there was sourness towards Cosimo's group buy topic (and as such John Barlow lost his administrator rights).  So I understand Cosimo's reasons here.
I am also happy to see developments of the Rectilux concept from John - I'll freely admit I gave him a hard time about his methods and conduct, but primarily about bold claims I was questioning.  Now it would seem John is taking a quieter approach with only occasional updates of this topic.  To be fair, I am not seeing hard selling but just occasional info about developments.  I am also seeing a product that if it comes to light in a tangible way ( I hope it does), will be something that will benefit a lot of users here.

Personally I feel it might be wise to close this topic down, and have John decant the most important information into a new topic where potential customers can direct their queries and productivity can be rekindled on the subject.   Does this sound logical?

**I'd also like to point out that as a potential customer myself, I will be awaiting images and tests (ideally third party) or finished articles before any money leaves my account.  I urge everyone to take care and factor this in before jumping on board without seeing tangible products or an expected availability date of items that appear largely at the concept stage of development. **

Yes. Barlow threatened to close the FM thread when he was a moderator and Andrew found that it wasn't suitable that Barlow was a moderator since he had his own interest in promoting his products - so it ended in Andrew removing the moderator rights.
The anamorphic forum on EOSHD is the best place for anamorphic fans on the Internet. I don't see any problem at all with people who make anamorphic modules / attachments to promote their products here - as long as it is clear that they are promoting their products, which I think is quite clear if you read through this thread.
Heck. I wouldn't mind if Letus, SLR Magic and Anamorphic shop all had their own main threads discussing their development and lenses, taking feedback and answering questions! It's just nice to have information available right here in the forum.
I don't see it as I am forced to buy anything from Barlow. But he makes it easy for me to follow along and be up to date about his product, should it interest me. I would say that is something that can be considered a gain for us forum members here!

Hi everybody.  I was at CES today and at the Samsung CES booth where they had some NX1 cameras mounted around a photo booth with a couple of models in a living room setting.  I happened to notice that the Samsung people did not have the NX1 SD card slot glued shut so I slipped in my own SD card and made some video using the Gamma Normal, Gamma C, and Gamma DR profiles that is in the 1.2 pre-release firmware.  I thought that I would share them with all of you.  Before I made the video, I performed a RESET ALL on the camera so I would be shooting with pristine default settings.  Attached are the screen grabs of the video playing in KODI/XBMC of my MacBook Pro.
Take note of how the black colors in the picture frame that is on the bookshelf to the left of the model's head perform under Gamma DR and Gamma C, and Gamma Normal.
