This is the next big thing since the 5D2.
An incredible cool camera for enthusiasts like me. The Speed Booster made me drool and i'm still waiting to hit that order button for the MFT version.

This little BMPCC + Speed Booster is what I'm aiming for. Freaking amazing.

I don't think in terms of full-frame personally, I've only really shot with APSC and S35 at great length, so when I "see" 50mm in my mind I "see" how it looks on a so-called 1.6 crop.

If you're talking about stills, then fine it's 3x.

If you're talking about film, it's a 2x crop, and Super 35 is standard.

That's how I see it anyway, 135-film size shooting (photographic full frame, 5D Mkii, iii and 6D) is a special case and special use (very low light, very shallow DOF). It's a negative crop of x0.6 or so.

If you're interested in the new cameras (who isn't?), you might want to head to DSLR News Shooter in about 8 1/2 hours.
At 12:00 PM PST they're streaming a live Q&A with Blackmagic, here:

"I think I'm going to pick up a C300 for $16,000 instead of the $4,000 4k BMC," said no one ever. Cannot believe a 4 grand camera outclassed Canon's ENTIRE cinema line. What a joke. Time to step it up Canon. You now actually have to try hard.

Damn, they're stepping it up big time! Super 35 4k for $4,000?? Who the hell is going to buy the original BMC? ha.

Wow, I officially am going to buy this one. I love what Blackmagic is doing to the industry and how they are really pushing things forward. Really refreshing to see a company put their best foot forward and not just pump out 1080p cameras left and right that no one cares about.

What is every other camera manufacturer thinking right now besides what the fuck do we do now? Canon's ridiculously priced 8 bit 4K 1DC is going to be bought by no one when you could buy 3 of these for the same price and it shoots RAW!!!

Wow, this is a legit game-changer if this camera is real.

Let's hope they have cooling under control.

I think there's two things going on here, the MoVi thing, and Laforet's "short", one is awesome, the other is incredibly terrible.

This thing obviously has a lot of potential, it's a novelty and they're charging for that, realistically this thing could be sold for well under $5k. But they were the first to provide it at this level of completion and useability, so let them milk it while they can.

Laforet's short however seems to me like a terrible demo. Most people have mentioned the out of focus and poorly framed shots, bad editing and poor filmmaking in general, most shots are totally unmotivated, and worse of all, there's nothing here in terms of camera movement that I haven't seen before. Watch a film like Hannah and and you'll find plenty of fluid steady shots, much better shot, so he missed his chance of showin off the specific skills this thing might have.

Maybe a really huge Philip Bloom signature sand bag that lets you shape an entire film set out of it with just a few pumps?

I think it's only a matter of time until GoPro leverage CineForm Raw with a cinema camera of their own. I'd say it will be their next product line. They're much more likely to put up a serious fight for BMD's market than any of the Japanese giants.

Michael Reichmann of The Luminous Landscape had this to say:
Observant Home Page viewers will note that the new front page image was taken with the as-yet unreleased Panasonic Lumix GH3. I have been shooting with a press review sample and will continue for the next ten days or so. This is a pre-production camera, so it has it foibles. But so far I am extreemly impressed with the build, handling, and especially image quality, both stills and video. This may be the best hybrid camera yet.
He's a big GH2 fan and was an early proponent of it as a video camera. He also regularly uses the FS100. I think his endorsement is great news.

Get a Zoom H4N or a Tascam DR40, plug the microphone into it, and record and monitor from there.
Use a clapperboard or something like it so you can synch up the audio and video tracks.

Chrad got a reaction from craigbuckley in Is there a way to zoom with 20mm pancake for gh2?
The hack is 3rd party (as in, not made by Panasonic) software that you can download and install on your GH2 for different settings. It allows shooting at higher bit-rates, which basically means you'll have video that is more open to colour correction, and that holds more information in the shadows, etc. The downside is that you can hold less video on your memory card.

You can zoom 2.6x on the 20mm and all your other lenses by using the GH2's 'ex-tele' mode. This is different from an optical zoom (where you change the mm of your lens), but the quality is very good and it's worth using in good lighting conditions.

I think there has always been historical differences between China and Japan. China though is really becoming a concern as a super economy helmed by a dictatorship.

Global warming was damaging the planet before china's industrial revolution NOW it is accelerating it massively. We in the UK go on about increasing the size of a single airport. China in a year will build 80.

The reason why China has become so big as because as consumers we buy as cheap as we can So our own manufacturing and working classes become unemployed Most of the money goes to china as we import cheap goods and then the money we save on those cheap goods go in taxes to pay for the working class unemployed while at the same time destroying the planet. How clever is that?

All our governments need to do is put an import duty on cheap goods from china to level the playing field and the problem goes away.

We have so called religions murdering people in their name We have religions who poo poo global warming. We have religions telling people not to use contraceptives. We have massive religious families expanding and spreading their word. We have western governments trying to control and takeover everything.

Is there any hope? At least we'll be able to record the end of the world in glorious detail. IF the cameras get produced that is. ;)Jokingingly

"Genesis" - Shutter lag on the train was pretty pronounced. Nice that they left it in so we could see it rather than fixing it in post.

Note to all you videographers - see how not EVERY shot is wide open? You don't need f/1.8 for all your shots just because you can.

[background=rgb(255, 255, 255)]I'm curious as to why so many people think that an affordable larger sensor RAW camera from BMD or anyone else is just around the corner.
The BMCC seemed at NAB to be an incredibly disruptive and innovative product. It took BMD a lot longer than they initially anticipated to get the product out the door. Then there's the super 35 sensor Kineraw, which has some of the same limitations as the BMCC (like no overcranking at full resolution, though it does support up to 720p60) but costs twice the price.
So why do people talk like it's easy to crank one of these things out and the sub $3K RAW camera we've all been waiting for will be out in a matter of months? Sony and Canon have not shown themselves to be nearly that nimble, and I think it will be a number of years before Blackmagic can put out another camera. [/background]
I'm sure in a few years there'll be a great super 35 RAW camera at an accessible price point, with all the features we've been asking for like higher frame rates, but there comes a point where one has to stop waiting and make the most of what's available now. With the inclusion of DaVinci Resolve and Ultrascopes, I think the BMC offers a value proposition that we won't see bettered for a good while to come.
