  1. I'm putting my money on makeup and fashion tutorials. Women are so superficial, not like us "gear obsessive" men.... because "gear" is cool.

  3. Well, 50k would be a lot of money for the majority of people in the world. I think in some parts of the world, you could live on the interest of 50k -- eastern europe, parts of asia and africa; the middle east, etc.... But than people WANT "modern conveniences" and expensive cameras.
  4. yeah, sometimes when I hear wealthy people complain, I think to myself, "well, just quit and live on the interest". But I think most time, everyone compares themselves to the guy just above him on the social ladder; the guy that makes 2M, compares and aspires to be the guy that makes 3M; the 3M guy wants to be the 4M guy, etc. It's like a hamster wheel. But than the cash/prizes get more tempting every rung of the ladder people climb, and the Sirens are too tempting for most. Those that can resist, don't complain and they are living comfortable somewhere.
  5. Almost every camera company will have ex-employees willing to say something bad about their former employers. What else is new? Red, sony, panasonic, etc.. There will be negative comments. Instead of rumors and speculation, what I look for is real evidence. What have they been sued for? Who won. What are the facts? Were there laws broken? Etc., etc...
  6. Tell that to Sony because for some reason the codec, video quality, things unrelated to form factor and connectivity seems to always be hampered in the A7 series cameras as compared to the FS line. Let Sony create a "hybrid" camera that has the same video quality as the pocket 4k. Do you think they would do it, or do you think they don't have the technology to do it? I think they don't really want to do it because it will hurt their FS sales. you can always make a small camera bigger, but you cannot make a big camera smaller. By the way, the A7Sii has been used in Hollywood movies. I can infer from this, to some professionals, the A7Sii can replace the FS line for movie/shorts production. I.e., the A7S line can and has taken away sales from the FS line.
  7. Sony is still trying to figure out a way to position the a7siii. It cannot take away sales from the FS line, but yet be good enough to capture the advance hobbist/ lower end professional market. Every time the company thinks it got it figured out, competition is raising the bar and Sony has to go back to the drawing board. If sony isn't careful, after a while, the competition is going to steam roll over the FS line.
  8. A lot of people I know still finish on HD. However, more people shot in 4k to be able to reframe, zoom in, pan, etc. 8k would allow people to fiinish in 4k or allow even extreme push in and pans.
  9. Actually, the cheapest camera of the bunch seems to be the A7sii... you can rent that, but it's probably just cheaper to buy it - and, yeah, it's only 8bit.
  10. Yes, BM isn't completing in the hybrid market. In the hybrid market, the best selling camera is the a7iii. It's a $1800 camera. So now Canon is going to try an compete in this market with a $4k camera???? You can buy two a7iii or the a7r4 which is one of the best "hybrid" cameras out there now and still cheaper than $4k. All of these mention cameras are photographers first, and videographers second. Blackmagic pocket 4k is competing in the budget cinema segment which they are dominating. Almost everyone who has owned a pocket 4k is extremely satisfied in their purchase. I'm not sure they will be willing to spend $3.5k more to get full frame and good autofocusing.
  11. We are all speculating :-) The EOS R needs to target a market segment. We don't know which segment that is - the SH1 segment (the approximately $4k or more) or the $1-3k segment where the blackmagic is currently dominating. If they are targeting the $4k and over segment, good luck to them. There are less, and less buyers at this level.
  12. Did canon also acknowledge that if they charged $4-5k for their R5; a person can also buy 2-3 blackmagic pocket cinema cameras? Granted it's m43, and no autofocusing -- but than you have both an A, B and also C cameras with "cinema quality" images. The R6 is more realistic, but the pocket 4k is cheaper and the pocket 6k has 6k. I'm assuming R6 is only 4k but auto-focusing. The competition is fierce but are they willing to REALLY change? I doubt it. They seem to be stuck in the past: "oh well use to charge 10k for our cameras, now we are going to charge 4-5k; see we have changed"...
  13. Yelp, they are aligning for the end user to be butt r$$#@%ped. Remember how expensive their original cinema dslr were? I think it was like $10k or something. I would assume the r5 is going to be pretty expensive if they specs are real.
  14. Canon doesn't cripple cameras... Not on purpose at least. Well, you see.. there's this thing that roams around. People call it the "canon cripple hammer". When canon managers think they should add X or Y feature that would make their cameras "too" awesome, the cripple hammer would hit them in the head forcing them to either drop the feature or scale it back. True story. Saw it on youtube.
  15. Wrong!!! the camera is not basically just the film stock, it is the what many people use as an excuse to not create stuff. ALso, it is the way camera manufacturers empty my (and many other people's) pockets. The funny thing about "professional cameras" are that they are so flexible (grading, exposure, etc.) that if you mess up, it's easier to fix. But those that need the fix-ability (beginning film makers) cannot afford it, and those that can afford it (professionals); doesn't need the fix-ability -- all the while manufacturers are smile while pushing the greatest and latest.
  16. Manufacturers set the prices. Users decide if they want to buy. Not enough buyers, camera makers lose money. Even if manufactures created a "jesus" camera that did everything and wipe your butt; if it's so expensive and not enough people want to buy or afford to buy; the manufacturers will lose money. If everyone thinks camera prices are overpriced, even if the prices "aren't", and people don't buy. manufactures lose money so in fact, the cameras are in fact OVERPRICED. That's how the market works. A lot of times, value is based on perception. Right now, the majority of people think smart phones provide a better value. $3-4k for a camera? or just buy an iphone? Most people just buy the iphone. So yes, in that perspective, cameras are overpriced for the vast majority of people. For the majority of people on this forum, according to Andrews latest "what are you shooting with poll", it seems like any camera over $3-4K is overpriced since most people use the pocket 4k camera which is $1.3k and has no real autofocusing. I could be wrong.
  17. The 1k to 3k market is so big because it includes the casual shooter - those that will buy their first camera; and those the will buy the camera to test it out and resell it later. It's a huge segment especial if it includes semi-professional, and professional videographers and photographers. The a7iii hit that mark. The s1h is too expensive. People do like the camera, but it is positioned too close to "real professional" cameras like the URSA, C500, FX5, etc... For those people who have the money to buy the s1h and a business reason to buy it, they usually step up and buy a "professional videocamera" perhaps even spending a little more because it's their living. Those that will be buying their first camera will not be buying the s1h. It's just not the autofocusing since people are willing to live w/o the great autofocusing if the price is right - Pocket 4k, Ursa, zcam, etc. I think subconsciously people use the autofocusing as a reason to not buy the s1h but it's really the cost. After all, when the A7iii came out nobody complained about the price. When the s1h came out, while basically everyone was impressed; almost everyone complained about the price saying it is expensive, "but you get a lot for your money" -- or something like that. This was completely different for the a7iii -- people were basically saying it was such a steal for the price. For the s1h to create as much excitement as the a7iii did, it needed to be cheaper WITH good autofocusing - no more than $2.5k. As it is now without good focusing, a good price for people to say "this is the camera to get" would be $2k. As a $4k camera, it does not fit into the sweet spot that will generate the most sales. I'm sure blackmagic with it's pocket 6k for $2.6K could have easily created a comparable full frame camera priced at $4k - just basically slap on a full frame sensor on their pocket camera; but they didn't because their market research probably showed that they couldn't sell as many cameras to make it worth their time.
  18. Blackmagic has aproximately 390 employees - compare that to sony or canons camera/video division. Blackmagic is a small company and they cant "play arround" or else they will get steamrolled by the big players. I dont have the exact numbers, but between their ursa camera and pocket 4k, i bet the majority of blackmagics revenue is coming from the sales of the pocket 4k. There are just not enough buyers of the higher end cameras to support many mid to larger company. I speculate that is why red is trying to go down market. Most of the companies are targeting the $1k to 3k marketplace. This is where most of the profit and demand is. Just look at panasonic s1h. At $4k, it too expensive and "not selling as well as it should" even through it is full frame and netflix approved. Its pretty much do or die time for the a7s4 or 3. With that release sony will tip its hand on what their strategy is - be like canon or try and innovate.
  19. Short term, yes its sonys internal politics. Longterm, its blackmagic imho since blackmagic are willing to use other peoples sensors and gives what filmmakers want.
  20. No raw internal war because of patent. They might have something like BRAW and external raw but that is about it. Yeah, if the a7s4 has the rumored specs, count me out. I will probably go to blackmaigic. They have shown to be innovative. The pocket 4k seems to beat the rumored a7s4 on all fronts except for autofocusing. It's like canon trying to protect it's Cinema line of cameras all over again, but this time it's sony. Disappointed because I bought a whole bunch of Gmaster glass. Oh well.... I think if I get the pocket 4k or 6k, that should last me 4-5 years before I want something else which to me is a long time.
  21. Oh, so basically a firmware update is the only option right now. Well, that cured my GAS for a bit.
  22. This topic is fairly interesting to me. Let me pretend to know what you guys are talking about and summarize the issue. When the sigma FP is debayering the raw footage; it seems to be causing artifacts because of the algorithm it is using - a firmware update is needed to cleanup the out of camera video by using a better algorithm. Also, since RAW is RAW, davinci resolve needs an update to better read the sigma fp raw footage because it too is adding artifacts to the footage. If those two things were fixed. Most importantly, the better support of FP raw within davinci, than for $1.8k, this is a really good camera for the price. Am I seeing everything correctly? ?
  23. Except when you open the hood of a Mercedes, you actually see an engine made by Mercedes instead of a honda engine. There are instances IIRC where Red has said they designed/made something, when it was actually an off-the-self part (like the sensor; the "engine" of the camera).
  24. If we even have Ironman rolling his eyes, we must have reached peak minutia :-) slowly backing away...
  25. Technically I said apsc, and not super 35. :-) From my quick google search the ls300 sensor size is 23.46*15.64 which is smaller than apsc. However, I guess technically a MFT could fit an apsc sensor but with significant drawbacks. Perhaps that is why the LS300 was not popular (e.g., corner sharpness of MFT lenses meant for smaller sensors)? https://***URL removed***/forums/thread/4327452
