Umm Yeah...Taken them long enough, better late than never tho...or is it too little too late maybe.
One thing tho Jordan from the Cam store says he now mainly uses it as his B Cam to his Sony FS7
He prefers it over the A7S now (his older B cam), judging by some of his posts he seems to really love it.
So it may hold up against the A7R 11...maybe, obviously the A7R will kill it in a lot of areas, but maybe ease of use,
price, gradability etc..will give it some air.

Astro got a reaction from IronFilm in The importance of firmware updates and why Panasonic are too late with V-LOG for the GH4
I pretty much agree with the sentiments of this article.
1st off...I have owned the GH4 for about a year now, and actually I love the Camera, I have become a lot more skilled in how to set it up and use it over the last few months.
I love what I am now getting out of the camera, and yes there was a learning curve with the GH4 to get the best out of it...I found that despite the fact that I used the GH2 for a long time as well.
BUT (And I am not pissing in Andrews pocket here) there were 2 sources that really helped get the GH2 a lot of recognition...and that was EOSHD and Personal View, plus the Vitaliy / Driftwood hacks.
Now Panasonic appear to have given Nick Driftwood a copy of V-Log2,(thats good)  yet not Andrew?
I know Andrew and Vitaliy appear to not get on...but that aside, to not give Andrew or Vitaliy a copy is nuts.
Now both parties dont speak of Panasonic that favorably...can you really blame them? they gave Panasonic free advertising for several years, by virtue of genuine enthusiasm and some honest criticism as well.
Now Panasonic more or less snub them and give copies to others, ...Seriously!!  they get a D or lower for marketing!!
PLUS...The current users of the GH4 have recieved no information why it has taken sooo long to get the V-Log L right...apart from Ilya Freedman saying once or twice...its coming sometime, cant say more than that tho...once again Panansonic gets lower than a D for marketing...possibly a Z for ZZZZZZ.
Yes I know...They cant give away secrets and all that (I have been a 3d beta tester and builder for years...I know about this stuff) and I know crap when I see it, and Pannys marketing is crap!! with a capital C.
They could easily say "We value our users, and we are developing V-Log L. we want to get it right and this V-Log  that will increase this or that in the Camera...they could easily do this and not give away a thing...but nope.... [...] corporate silence and seat warming....and the occasional Youtube vid showing a flat vs some LUT applied along with Youtube compression...so GH4 owners can guess away...seriousy this is BS!!
Meanwhile Sony has been chomping at the bit and moving into overdrive with mirrorless cams , BMD has created some really exciting new cameras coming up (yes they are generally more expensive...and they are only on paper right now, but they are still competition)...and of course Samsung has entered the market and made aggressive firmware updates to the NX1.
Meanwhile Panny has done a little, but probably Too little...and Too late, they really need to get off the collective corporate arses and do something ..or say something thats solid.
And give the firmware to some of the bloggers like Andrew!!
[...] As I said I am a fan of the GH4, but if they dont get a clue soon..I for one will be looking at Sony, BMD or Samsung for my next cam for certain.

Agreed, I get a little suspicious when people rant about specs too much, it is a bit like guitars...when someone says such and such a guitar is sooo much better because of this reason or that, the first thing I want to do is hear them play. As Steve Vai once said...when people get too caught up in I use this amp, with this vintage valve mic, thru to such and such a pre amp and then to tape...yada yada...well you grow old that way LOL!!
Obviously there is a difference between say a great guitar and a shit one, but that difference is not that great (as some make out) between say an NX1 vs GH4 vs C100 or C300 or whatever from Canon..or even a Red, perhaps even the "GOD" Alexa!
So if anyone says the GH4 footage is just "OK" thats fine, but perhaps show something you have shot that is miles better, that anyone could see..(without pixel peeping) otherwise its just words.
Take this footage for example https://vimeo.com/125389854   this could have been shot on an Alexa or anything else, its great!!
However if you think it shows the failings and limitations of the GH4, thats fine...but then post something "you have done" that is noticeably better that anyone can see....its easy to quote specs on a forum (and yes specs are important...to a degree) but the reality is, the GH4 (even without V-Log) can produce an amazing image in the right hands.
Buying an NX2 or a GH5 is not going to make your work "miles" better, it will simply give you more options thats all.
How do I know? Well I operate a 20 core Xeon E5-2680 v2 CPU and a ton of VST plug ins, libraries of sounds, and a couple of very versatile DAW's..and a lot of mastering plugs and hardware.
You know what? I cant make better music on this than I did 5 or so years ago on a quad core with far less, the reality is I am limited by my imagination and skills...its the law of diminished returns, go back 20 years...yes there is a difference, go back 5 years...not so much.

Reading thru the various forums and comments online and the vid on youtibe, 90% of those comments are either unimpressed or negative.
Admittedly the C300 was not that well received and it found a solid market, but that was a different market and that was then, this is now and its competitors NX1, GH4 A7s offer a lot more for less, and tjhat seems to be the main response to this Camera...time will tell tho I guess, but personally I would not even consider one.
    I'll stick with my GH4.

Well I guess its what appeals to you at a certain point.
I only own a GH4 and a couple of other cams, not the A7s...but as the A7s in full frame although smooth at ISO 3200, it is certainly not smooth when you move it, everyone knows that it has really bad rolling shutter at full frame, you really need to use it at APS-C if you want to move the camera at all.
So it depends where your smooth priorities lie...smooth movement or smooth ISO.
All the talk of cinematic full frame on the A7s really means it has to be on a tripod and still to get that happening.
Plus there are lots of posters on DVX-user that own both cams as well as the EOS-C line of Canons that really like the GH4 and appear to use it more than the A7s because its more convenient and they get good results, many of them cutting with Reds and EOS-C cams...so it doesn't really matter, maybe to Andrew, but not so much to others.
I agree with most of rygenovas post...at the end of the day no average watcher is going to go WOW!! at an A7s piece of footage and not so WOW at a GH4 piece of footage.
Doesnt mean I dont want to see V-Log on the GH4...I do, but for me, its more than I need right now and if I cant produce good results with it, then I probably need to give up.

While the low-light capability of the A7s is very, very appealing to me, I think I'd rank the GH4 sans speed booster just slightly above the A7s sans Shogun because what 4k brings to the table for me outweighs the crop and ISO downsides. And WITH BMPCC speed booster, GH4 is for me way ahead of the A7s even with Shogun. Remember that with the almost two full stops of light gathering gain you'd rarely have to go above 1600 ISO, thus avoiding the loss of detail and color you get at 3200 and above, and, the crop is s35, which is arguably more cinematic than FF, since most movies have s35 DOF rather than full frame. For me s35 is the sweet spot and FF DOF is often TOO shallow. But to each his own..

Well...This is a very interesting debate...very interesting reading, I can sense a few feathers getting ruffled.
I am not on anyones side here, but I can almost gaurantee that if you took some really well shot footage from either
the 1DC or the GH4 or the A7s and did some nice color grading on each and played that downsized footage at 1080P to
an average viewer ...which is 99% of the people.
I would bet a thousand dollars that  they would see them all being roughly equal and not say that footage looks great, that sucks etc...
so in that sense as we are still mainly viewing in 1080P at best (ipads etc..are often hard to tell between 720p and 1080P).

So as we are mainly viewing in 1080P the differences would be negligable, but the price differences are not.
There are always differences in user experiences in any camera...for example I have had the GH4 for months now,
and I have had no problems with the so called (Noisy Image) that some complain about (in the shadows and whatnot).
Thats probably cause I have used it extensively and have done test after test and found the settings that worked for me,
(opposite to what James Miller suggests)and I get a very clean and workable image, even when its slightly underexposed and
at higher ISO's...so I am delighted.
All in just over $2,000 for the Cam and the 12-35 lens, I could not have had this type of quality at this price a year or so ago...and
I would not have it now if it were not for Panasonic, Sony and now Samsung, so kudos to those companies.
I can definitely say I would not have that type of quality if Canon were still the major player for video in DSLR cams.
So in that sense I agree with Andrew, I have no particular bias, we have 2 Canons as well and my son has a Canon for shooting surf vids,
great cams (obviously not in the class of the 1DC cinema line)
But hey a GH4 costs less than a 5DMk3 and as shooting videos is my main thing.  then I would rather have a GH4 anyday...
than a 5D Mk3 cause I for one care about detail, I can do whatever else I need to do in post if the camera delivers out of the box.
    My 2 cents

Ooo, are we playing this game? Can I play too?

I think they're slowly changing that now. All the new cameras have power aperture in them. Pretty sure the low-end (D5300 and below) won't have them though.

    You're wrong on this one.

What company is allowed to get away with 6 year old tech in their cameras?

What company only allows "positive commentary" to be posted in blogs and frowns on those with "critical tone"?

What company gets to sell cameras with less features at a higher price and still move them by the boat load?

What company gets to do all the above and still look like a leader?

It's a company with one hell of a marketing department. Global marketing department, I might add.

and I have had no problems with the so called (Noisy Image) that some complain about (in the shadows and whatnot).
    My 2 cents

    Each to their own.
Personally I like the Gh4's colors, but it took me a while to get the settings I like.
Basically it reproduces pretty much exactly what my eyes see, in terms of detail and colors...and I like that, my eyes are the ultimate judge and I cant trade them in on next years model, I have relied on them for years in graphic art and 3d design.
Using iDynamic in reasonable light gives good detail in shadows with practically no noise or blotching that I can see.
I had a Canon 60D, my son uses it these days for surf videos...I cant say the same about that, its a nice enough image, but to my eyes (and many others, its nowhere near the class of the GH4 in practically any area).

Many users have sold their 5DMk3's and many others are able to match the color nicely to the Canon C100, there are tons of threads on dvxuser.com about this.

But at the end of the day, the whole GH4 Vs Canon Vs Nikon Micro 4/3rd vs Full Frame...is a lot like the argument that has been around for decades in relation to guitars...
is a single coil better than a humbucker? (they are certainly different) or is a Fender (largely single coils) better than a Gibson (largely Humbuckers)? or does and Ibanez lack soul (now theres a word that puts the argument out of reach LOL!!...the camera equivalent is the much maligned term "filmic")

At the end of the day, its horses for courses, I personally dont base my decisions on anyones Sony, Canon, Nikon, Panasonic preferences or bias...I use what pleases me...and I'll bet most others do the same.

Astro got a reaction from estarkey7 in Samsung U28D590 review - Ultra HD 4K 28" monitor for $599
    Andrew
Very interesting article...just one point you said "Is this the perfect monitor to watch your Gh4 footage on?" and then you never said anything further about that, apart from a little bit about the A7s.
What does the A7s footage look like? What does the GH4 footage look like?
Just in your opinion ..based on viewing on that 4K monitor.
You said its very revealing and you may have to re review some cameras...but not much more about that?
A positive and negative review of the current crop of 4K DSLR's on a 4K monitor would be great...avoiding the stuff we already know...like ISO performance...RS etc...
just the detail, colors etc of those 4K cams.....how they hold up,  and a comparison of current 1080p DSLR's on that monitor as compared to the A7s and GH4 would be very interesting as well.
There are no other articles about this as far as I know, and I am sure a lot of us would be very interested in the results.
    Thanks for the article...
    Cheers :)

Astro got a reaction from Rui Soares in Evolving Sony A7S Review (Part 1)
I have to totally agree 100% with this!! Thats how it came across to me too.
I appreciate the efforts Andrew puts into his reviews...there is some great information and he does a good job.
I have the GH4 but I certainly didn't buy it on Andrews recommendation tho.
However the mood of this article came across to me as being a little bit fickle.
The GH4 was the best thing that happened only a month or so ago, and suddenly its now the Beginning of the end for that camera...wow!! OK
Maybe he could have waited a few more weeks LOL!!
We know the GH4 has some flaws and weaknesses and so does the A7S...as many have pointed out..
But after reading his article, it does read a little bit like "New Toy" and as you said that will definitely piss people off that bought the GH4 based, or part based on his previous enthusiasm...just a matter of weeks ago.
The end result? People will be suspicious that his views are highly changeable and a bit fickle at best.
I know Andrew loves Full Frame Cameras and all that, and I know technology moves fast, and I am sure the Sony fits the scope of his work very well, but the radical switching of opinion and the "Beginning of the End" stuff is really not necessary.
