Jordan....thanks for the footage and input...it looks amazing, especially considering you just applied an Alexa Rec 709 Lut instead of a full grade...clearly the log profile offers the posibility of many variations of the clips!...did you shoot with all picture settings at 0 or did you adjust them and if so, to what?...Again, thanks much for sharing!!

During lunch break I played with the screen grab for a few minutes more just for the heck of it.  Along with the Varicam35 LUT I also played with image in Photoshop Camera Raw a bit here.   I don't think there are any skin-tone issues to worry about at all once we finally get V-LOG.  Image degradation seems nonexistent as well, and this is a screen grab of a compressed youtube video.    I think we are in for a treat when we get the real deal.

The Arri Alexa log-c is extremely flat - Alister hits it well.
It's a log curve that bends as it gets to hightlight handling.  The curve feature was first created with Panavision and Sony with the Panavision Genesis.  I think.  It allows a camera to put more paint into the bucket and expand it later in post.
It's basically like a super smooth knee function.  Excited for the GH4 v log function - that's great news!

Some testgrading of your screenshot @Jordan Drake
Used my old 2013 BMCC Teal/Orange LUT for this.

I hate to say it, but I've agreed not to share any V-Log L files while I'm testing. I think the screencap below is your best bet at seeing how the files respond to your workflow.

Playing with V-Log L a bit more, I've found that it responds wonderfully to Alexa LUTs. This is great, since I won't have to wait months for V-Log L LUTs to become available for the shoots where I don't have time to manually grade (also, I'm not a great colorist by any means!)

I'm still quite happy with the images coming out of the GH4 with or without V-log.  The metabones XL adapter just added that much more capability to the camera if I should decide to slap on some bigger glass.  I might actually be more impressed with Panny if they release a V-log update a few months before the GH5 is announced, that would buck the trend of holding back advanced features for a next-gen product.  I can honestly say that I don't feel limited by technology for the first time in a long time.
The new Sony tech is very good from the standpoint of hybrid imaging, but not earthshaking for a lot of filmmakers.  4K/60P would be more useful for me than any of the features announced in the A7R II and I doubt they'll be delivering that in a future firmware update.

Running around any national park, remote farmland, or large city for a day and getting beauty shots would have been far more watchable than this.    Anyway, the camera looked good.

You guys just don't get it... This film is a disturbing social commentary on the American family and the human condition...
The mom "entering the fridge" is really symbolic for her addiction to crystal meth (ice). Notice how the family has to function more and more without her as her addiction gets worse? I didn't watch the ending (who could make it that far), but I like to think something really shocking (like GoT shocking) happened at the end, like maybe her pimp and drug dealer ends up executing her family one by one.

Anyone in marketing that would think this is a good idea probably shouldn't be in marketing, but that's corporate culture for you.
If it were me, I'd be hiring Kendry (for the same budget they spent on this mistake) and just let him do his thing.  Whatever he came back with at the end of a month would get people excited.  Not only what he did but how he shot it.
Heck, spend a day on Vimeo and you could track down hundreds of talented filmmakers.
This particular movie strikes me as the perfect example of a talent challenged film maker* devoted to the tech and the idea of making a movie --while not having enough well rounded artistic talent.  The film is amusing to me in the sense that It does illustrate how the fundamentals of making a good film has pretty much jack-squat to do with the camera.
*full disclosure: I consider myself as such so I recognize the limitations.

The little GM1 looked great across the board to me, especially in the outdoors shot and DR.  Though I picked the blackmagic in the first scene as best.

Because your not the Talent, so your not supposed to understand either.
My point is, sometimes its your customer who decides and they view them self with their own eyes. That you must understand if you care about your job :)

I really don't understand why anyone would prefer D (in the chewing gum part). It looks absolutely terrible... Digital artefacts all over the place, too dark and it looks like upscaled sd from a VHS tape...

Panasonic LUMIX G 42.5mm f/1.7 Aspherical Power O.I.S. Lens Micro Four Thirds
    I'm a M43 shooter most of time.
For me, a 40mm-ish lens offers an ideal focal length for cinematic imaging.  I find I like doing a lot of my shots at this focal length on M43.  Often it's all I go out into the field with for certain gigs.  I do this to keep my sessions aesthetically cohesive.  I have an Oly 45mm 1.8.
I might carry along my Pany 20mm for some wider stuff, but I'm just not as enamored with it as I am the 45.  The documentary I'm currently working on is about 75% shot on my 45mm, and almost all those shots are making it into the edit.
Zooms I don't really like.  I use them for corporate work, never really for my own shooting.  I like to recommend people shoot with only one lens for stuff.  It's really great limiting your focal length options; forces you to think in a certain visual vocabulary.  The last short I did was all with a 25mm 2.8.
    Primes are the best!

Wow, there are really a lot of negative comments about Kung Fury in this thread.
Personally, I thought it was absolutely awesome. The style, the one-liners, the creative compositions and the confidence to make something this ridiculous actually good is a winner to me.
This filmmaker had a lot of fun making this, is clearly very inspired and doesn't care how dumb people think his film is. (Because it's actually very clever).
Maybe I love it because I can relate to it. In uni, I loved watching "so bad they are brilliant" films like Ninja Terminator. So when I see Kung Fury taking that to the level of awesome, I understand it completely.

I already know how this thread will end. People will say it sucks. Someone fires back and says "let's see what you've done better...", another person says "we can critique all we want". Then the thread closes.
