AaronChicago got a reaction from Endfallow Media in Premiere CC 2015 does not support files Samsung NX1.
I'm so happy with this update. Everything runs so much smoother with Mercury Playback. After Effects now has real time playback with sound. I've been pushing for that since the beginning.

AaronChicago got a reaction from BrorSvensson in First Sony A7R II user experiences - global shutter and native ISO 800?
Guys, it's absurd to say Canon is doomed because they're not putting out cutting edge DSLR/Mirrorless cameras for video. They're crushing in the stills arena. Their Cx00 lines are a hit. Canon glass is extremely popular. It's a bummer they're not catering to the small camera video crowd but they're not going anywhere.

AaronChicago reacted to Peter Rzazewski in 200Mbps All-i or 100Mbps for 60p conformed to 24?
I just sold the GH4 and upgraded to the C100 Mark II. Aside from not having 4k, Im thrilled with the C100 so far. I won't go on about it here but it's freaking amazing (built in nd, dual slot recording proxies, log profile, 60p, small but high DR files, wifi, xlr,)... ill stop now.

AaronChicago got a reaction from maxotics in Sony has gone internal-4K crazy: A7RII, RX1004, RX10II
Canon is still the best user experience as far as the Cx00 line goes. That's worth alot in my opinion. Image-wise Sony is really doing a great job and on the cutting edge.

AaronChicago reacted to Julian in Thoughts on crowd sourcing
Crowdsourcing is not the same as crowdfunding. Nothing wrong with either of them, you are not forcing anyone to pay or participate.
I don't think it's easy to crowdfund a short film though. There is a lot of competition, you'll need to get your project in the spotlights. I think you won't succeed if you can't show anything. You should have a teaser/trailer or some previous work/films at least and it better be damn good...
If the mentioned soundtrack is made by someone like Hans Zimmer you'll probably get away without showing anything. If it's someone nobody really knows, I wouldn't expect people to have much interest in it...
Have a look at Kickstarter Movie projects. Plenty of examples that worked out great or didn't work at all. In most cases it's clear why it did work or didn't work.
It might be easier to crowd source it. Look for a sponsor for your wardrobe, find some student actors / sound guy that want to work on their portfolio. Or 'pay' it yourself by doing some work for them in return.

Awesome. Hopefully Nikon mount is coming.

AaronChicago got a reaction from bluefonia in Setting GH4 up for an external monitor?
It angles away from the door. Do you have a cage for the GH4?
I found a rock solid solution for keeping the micro HDMI in place. I use this cage:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FHUGEN-HONU-V2-0-VIDEO-CAGE-Kit-with-Top-Handle-HDMI-Clamp-for-GH3-GH4-A7-A7R-/231330143830?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35dc59de56
I use this HDMI clamp on the side.http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMALLRIG-HDMI-Cable-Clamp-1521-/251981734964?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3aab482434
I simply place a small round metal cylinder (find at a hardware store) inside the clamp and push it against the micro HDMI input. Lock the Clamp. It's super secure. You can basically throw the cage around and it won't come loose.

I mean after all, it was released for free on YouTube, where cat videos reign. Can't expect Kung Fury to speak profoundly to mankind.

I already know how this thread will end. People will say it sucks. Someone fires back and says "let's see what you've done better...", another person says "we can critique all we want". Then the thread closes.

AaronChicago got a reaction from Zak Forsman in Monitor for GH4 and BlackMagic Pocket
That looks nice. Fairly light. I had a DP7 for GH4/BM and it was so heavy (1.5 lbs) that I just couldn't take it anymore. I sold it and got a SmallHD 502 which is feather light. It stays on top of smalls cameras with ease.
EDIT: The main reason I love using SmallHD with GH4 and BM is the LUT feature. It helps to have a custom LUT to see in the field when shooting LOG or Cine D.

AaronChicago reacted to Nick Hughes in Monitor for GH4 and BlackMagic Pocket
SmallHD just announced the 501 monitor, which is a HDMI-only version of the 502, at $899. It's ability to function as an EVF with the upcoming sidefinder is what really makes it attractive to me. Plus the bluetooth joystick control that will also be coming soon.

No problem. Check out this video and it shows the differences. I use an FX 1. Anything below that is very subtle and not worth it, in my opinion.

AaronChicago got a reaction from Jimbo in Canon 50mm F/1.8 STM - The legend just got even better
I'm not too torn up about not being able to use face tracking. Continuous AF is good enough and I always have my left thumb on AF lock. If the camera is still and someone is walking away/toward its just as easy to use manual focus.

AaronChicago reacted to Oliver Daniel in 2 Hour Making of Mad Max Fury Road
I loved it too.
It was hilarious, I couldn't stop spitting my sides over the big truck with the drummers on the back and the guitarist on the front. It was like a 2 hour music video really. A very simple plot but absolute carnage all the way through.

AaronChicago got a reaction from Oliver Daniel in 2 Hour Making of Mad Max Fury Road
LOVED IT! One of the most intricate, stylish action film I've ever seen. Mel Gibson is still a better Max but he was basically a secondary character in Fury Road.
