I checked BH Photo and it is still $2499, maybe we will see a price drop tomorrow - first day of IBC. Seems like a good move for Blackmagic to make though I don't think they needed to lower the pock to $1036 to sell it, but still great news for those how were  considering purchasing either one.

They just have to tease, do they?  It would be good to know.

im close to puling the pin  on a speed booster originally i was going to buy one to fit the tokina 28-70 in nikon mount. but thinking about it further im probably better of getting one in ef mount. that way pretty much everything can be adapted via the ef mount. At the moment i have 7 pentax m42 and the tokina. So is there any flaws in my plan

I have said lens when I tried it with the Original Pocket.  I got the Viltrox and it seem to work for me.  I've been contemplating on getting the 4K or the 6K.  Yet, once the P4K gets the firmware update, it will have something that would be close to Super16 crop.  Can't wait to see more.

  3. I have been intrigued last Thursday when they announced the 6k version of the Pocket.  Hits/misses, but very exciting times in the videography field.  I'm not gonna hold my breath in purchasing as I feel their stock can be a bit dicey.  I witnessed the P4K orders and long times for stock and ship so I'm not hard pressed - probably next year or a few until they are solid.  Funny they're pushing P6K fast than the P4K so, there you have it.

How can we ever forget that episode "The Long Night".  Where the DP chastises the viewer that we need a new TV or calibrate in order to view - this coming from a Alexa or Red.  Like other's said, lighting is key to engage the audience, not leave out of it.

Ah, it's funny that you said this.  As soon as I bought and installed the Microsoft HEVC extensions, all my H265 files in Resolve now read 'Media Offline'.  It was working fine prior to it.

Now, I can't get back to where I was last night. I'm guessing there's no way to fix this except to buy the full Resolve version?

Exactly @MeanRevert.  I'm pretty much bummed about that as well. :(

    Hey again fellas,

Another newbie question if you'll so indulge..

My system is struggling to playback the H265 Long GOP 4K files. Looking back on this thread, someone mentioned that QuickTime worked great but this is no longer supported on Windows. Any suggestions?

Also, for editing, does Resolve or Premiere do a better job with these H265 files?

    Thanks in advance!

In regards to Resolve, you may have to consider the studio version.  I tried the free version of Resolve with h.265 file and it won't read it even with installing the HVEC extension.  I had to transcribe to ProRes

Bummer, I'll have to get something with a DC output. Thanks for the help again man

Yeah man it'll compliment my XT3 nicely. I got the metabones SB now so its close to S35.

Exactly.  I got some MD and Canon lenses especially the Tokina ATX Pro 28-70mm.  I'll be spotting for an adapter for the X-T3 until then.

  8. I still got my original Pocket, and still love it for what it is.  Not to go OT, but I may plan on getting the fujifilm x-t3 for the S35 vid feel, and use my OG as a B-cam or something for street shots or narrative work when the time comes.  I been hoping for something big w/ P4K, but I dunno.  I'm still keeping my trusted baby with me.

true, aliasing is bad, so im shooting with fast [soft] lenses wide open, 360° and as you said adding a lot of grain (i like it anyway)) over original noise. not suited for clean work but to catch a moment its enough for me. here is another example of 100fps but with xh1; theres a lot of red so watch in 2160 quality (yeah its funny chosing 2160 option to watch 720-like footage but its YT compression bbe )):

Beautifully shot.  Did you use the Konica as well?

No, the crop is obviously added on top of the native sensor size so it’s 1.17x + 1.5x (APS-C) .

    That’s nowhere near FF..

So, for a video crop to shoot internal, would it be give or take Super 35 size?

  11. 1 minute ago, thebrothersthre3 said:

Yeah there is a crop if you want to shoot in Flog and view it as a film simulation like Eterna. So you either have to get an external recorder that can use a LUT to preview the image or just monitor with Flog in camera, or just deal with the crop.

    I see.  Thanks.

After doing a lot of tests, I haven't got the hang of removing purple frames from 1x3 bining mode though I am really satisfied so far with the MV1080p where I barely have to stretch footage in post. The graphic is amazing so far. I used a 2x Anamorphic adapter to capture the frames using the settings below in Dannes latest build.

    Crop Mode: MV1080p 1736x1158
    Bitrate - 10bit
    Ratios - OFF

    RAW Video:
    Resolution: 1736x1158
    Aspect Ratio: 4:3
    Data Format - 14Bit Lossless

Also, no aliasing or purple frames (at least for now)

    This is awesome.

I haven't been successful with Danne's built - for I don't know exactly what I'm doing.  Who knew that Canon's EOS-M is right up there with the big boys.

    ::thumbs up::

The EOS-M is the camera that just keeps on giving. It was my first foray into ML Raw and I failed miserably with it. Soon after I tried my hand with the 50D and thought hmm. With the 5D3, I am a full convert and won’t even think of buying another camera until I see what happens with the 5D4 developments.

However, somewhere in the back of my closet, I still have my EOS-M, a few batteries and a slew of SD cards just waiting to be used. This could be a fun way to cure some Mid-Winter Blues. I look forward to your update, Andrew.

On another note, I almost bought your 5D Mark III 3.5K Raw guide a couple of hours ago, but I don’t know if I can go without a clean LiveView. Has there been any updates on that front?

Intriguing, @Andrew Reid.. quite intriguing.  I too, am interested.

@mercer, I felt the same way.  I haven't play/test it in a while - the camera was quite limiting until I snagged the Panny G7.  I'm revving the batteries and checking this one out.

Crazy how ebay sellers make more than double profit for selling BMPCC 4K cameras and people actually buy them almost instantly. We live in an impatient world.

I agree.  $2000+ for the camera, when you can actually (pre-)order it for $800 less?  Might as well get a Canon C100 or the Ursa and be done with it.  Like some others, not in no rush to get it.  Wait until all pre-orders are done for it to sell solid.  The camera itself is looking good so far.

Yeah the sigma 18-35 vingettes with a speedbooster if used on a GH5S or Blackmagic pocket 4k. The crop is 1.8 so with a speedbooster it goes down to 1.27 or 1.15 (depending on the speedbooster you get).

I was wondering the same thing.  I think with the .71 (I got the Viltrox EF-M2) doesn't vignette, but the Metabones .64 does.  Again, these are my figures.
