  1. Does this reliably remove the vertical stripe/pattern noise from MLV? I really like the beta version and have been using it exclusively since last year. I'd really like to know if it's reliable before paying for it. Thanks for the heads up!
  2. Ah OK I'm not sure where to find that lens support in the US. But I'm not willing to go and spend another $1600 on a VD mod even though I would love to. I spent so much just securing this Isco.
  3. In the YT video part 2 at 24:30 he talks about testing stocks of films. I think this is very true for any of our new cameras today. So for people who think camera/lens tests are boring and unnecessary, I think you should watch his interview. Lots of great info from a great cinematographer!
  4. I just secured an Iscorama 36 and I want to be able to mount it to rails so I can swap cameras and lenses easily, as well as use a follow focus. I have a vid-atlantic adapter to mount on the back that makes it a 52mm rear thread. But I don't want to screw it onto taking lenses. I'd rather just mount it on rails, makes everything easier. I was thinking of using lens collars like I do with 2x adapters, but the 52mm barrel size is quite small and I'd have to make a spacer of some kind. Any ideas are very welcome thank you!

    Lenses

@EOSHD Maybe instead of a thread, a real forum section. I'd like to discuss specifics - Micro 4/3rds lenses, vintage lenses, full frame lenses, etc. I'm just worried that specific topics would be lost in a single discussion thread.
  6. I know with my GH3 I have to find that balance of 60P codec with the right shutter speed. I usually use 1/160-1/250 depending on how much motion. I didn't see anything wrong with Julian's footage though. I think it's just something you have experiment with to get the right amount of motion blur or cadence.
  7. This is what Andrew Chan posted on EOSHD: The SLR Magic Anamorphot works well with the SLR Magic 35mm T1.4 CINE II but it does not necessary work well with any taking lens. It is more likely for the SLR Magic Anamorphot to work with prime lenses with a front element diameter smaller than 50mm (not filter thread diameter). If the front element is larger than 50mm you either need to stop down or it may not even work at all. The lens is also more likely to be compatible with prime lenses. So far this is what we know that works from user feedback: Blackmagic Pocket MFT camera only SLR Magic 17mm f/1.6 @2.8 Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 @2.8 MFT cameras Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 @1.7 Voightlander 25mm f/0.95 @0.95 SLR Magic 35mm T1.4 CINE II @2.8 Canon EF STM f/2.8 @2.8 Contax 45mm f/2.8 @2.8 Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 @2.8 Contax 60mm f/2.8 @4.0 Leica Summicron-R 90mm f/2 @5.6 Contax 100mm f/2 @5.6 Prakticar 135mm f/2.8 @5.6 '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> We should make a comprehensive list for all lenses compatible with the Anamorphot. Here are a few of mine: Panasonic 14-45mm F3.5-F5.6 @ F4.0 Panasonic 12-35mm F2.8 X @ F2.8 Panasonic Leica 25mm DG F1.4 @ F2.0/F2.8 Canon 40mm F2.8 STM Pancake F2.8 @ F2.8 Canon 50mm F1.8 @ F2.8 Canon 100mm Macro (non-IS) F2.8 @ F5.6 Contax Zeiss 50mm F1.4 @ F5.6 (for me, different from other people) Contax Zeiss 85mm F1.4 @ F5.6/F8 Contax Zeiss 135mm F2.8 @ F8 Helios 44-2 58mm F2 @ F4/F5.6 Jupiter 9 85mm F2 @ F8 Nikon 50mm E AI F1.8 @ F2.8 SLR Magic 35mm CINE II (MFT only) F1.4 @ F2/2.8
  8. Very nice detail. Just can't believe how clean the image looks. Especially like the 2nd video (YT) with the wind farm/docs in the background. Just amazing detail and colors! I can't wait for this camera! Thank you for all the tests!
  9. That looks really good for ISO 4000. It's a fairly sharp anamorphic, looks small too. How are you liking the GH4? Easy to work with the 4K MOV files? Did you upload it 4K or did you downconvert to 1080? BTW you have a very resourceful cat. Fat cat @ 00:25! LOL!
  10. I used to have the LA7200. Those tiny screws are such a pain. Don't overtighten otherwise you'll never open it again. Also be careful with the small rear glass. I dropped mine just 3 inches and it chipped the edge. Very fragile glass!
  11. OK that's an awesome plug-in! Really makes the video shine without the fisheye effects. Thanks for making this. Really changed my mind about the Letus+GoPro!
  12. I think you should have a sub-forum for Andy Lee. Lenses are so important to making great imagery. It's so hard to find any reliable source for vintage lenses.
  13. Thank you for posting this! I think the 4K 2x speedup is genius! I wonder how you removed the fisheye effect? Looking at this, way better than Letus' own video. I just wish this could go on a gimbal, I was thinking of primarily aerial video with the GoPro. Maybe need a beefier gimbal. Again thanks for this video!
  14. If you watched the video I posted from DSLR News Shooter he said it's about $1000+ from the current model. So figure list to be $2700. I just hope it doesn't have the same image breathing as their current 1.33x (1.21x?) adapter. I'd like to see this head to head with an Iscorama 36.
  15. Not sure if this was posted anywhere, but great test footage of the GH4 4K + Sankor 2x Anamorphic from Martin Wallgren:
  16. I wonder if it looks anamorphic at all. Not really an anamorphic option for super wides anyway. I believe the only superwide cine lens was at 20mm used for the remake of Total Recall. Even then, what's the point I guess?
  17. Letus has an interesting anamorphic adapter for GoPro Hero 3+. However I think just having "bent glass" is not enough. I think all they really did is make the optics wider but not necessarily good for anamorphic. A single wide optic. And the flares are bent too. Very strange look. Goes to show that anamorphics aren't easy to produce and aren't made for super wide angle shots.
  18. I think the moderator idea is a good one. Take the people who contribute the most and have them vested in the site. It would be a shame to see this site become like Cinema5D - fragmented mess. On a side note let's see who you pissed off with your opinions: Sony fanboys - A7S rolling shutter? Blackmagic fanboys - sensor issues? Firmware? Truth in your face? Canon fanboys - overpriced? C100/300 hurt much? Nothing at NAB? Aww... Nikon fanboys - alias much? Moire? Unfortunate lack of features? Panasonic fanboys - crazy russian hacker? Weird personal views? Everything else - keep your politics/public/copyrights to yourself damn it! You know Andrew this is your blog. Do as you see fit. I like it this way. Better than Reduser, DVXuser, Planet5D, Cinema5D, and all the rest. Let's have some open honesty. But no more personal attacks. I guess you can understand why Bloom has all the damn "disclaimers" on his blog...

    letus anamorphic

Letus interview. Maybe one of the worst interviews/demos ever: Fast forward to 3:54 for a terrible closeup. LOL 6:45 GoPro and iphone Anamorphic adapters. Might be cool. Maybe...
  20. Finally finished my short film project "Separate Flow". Waiting for the right anamorphic and I think the SLR Magic Anamorphot was it. Very practical to use on location, it worked really well for this project. Debated long and hard on using either the GH3 or 5DmkIII RAW. In the end I went with shooting RAW even though I had a lot of problems, including the camera shutting down at one point. But it's the flexibility of RAW in post that won out in the end. In the future I will use AF with the GH3/4 since it's more usable, especially when using a steadicam.
  21. Amazing looking video! Great idea to shoot anamorphic in a video arcade with all those lights. Love the music too!
  22. I'm wondering how the 80mm biometer compares to the Helios 40 85mm. Are these P6 lenses better because they are made for larger Medium Format? I've never thought about using Medium Format for Full Frame or Micro 4/3rds. Any frame grabs or videos shot with these lenses?
  23. I think run and gun is very well possible. If you use the SLR Magic Anamorphot or Optex or LA7200, they are all very compact and I've done it many times. But there are limitations to everything. Do you understand them? Can you work with them? Because yes you get a different look with anamorphic but is that practical for your run and gun shooting? Shooting anamorphic is much more difficult because of framing, composition, and the limited lenses available. And anamorphics are very particular about the lenses you use. You have to understand that aspect before you get into it. In the end you have to use it a lot to get comfortable with the system.
  24. This is my test video with my GH3 + 12-35 X + SLR Magic Anamorphot + Tiffen Vari-ND. Sean is right, mostly used around 20-25mm wide end, and a few 35mm. Everything shot with AF on Face Detect, so you can see it going in and out of focus. Not the best way to use AF, but it was just me doing this. Anamorphot was slightly mis-aligned, but overall AF worked very well. Sorry about my ugly face in all of this. Edit: I did Fast Color Corrector and some Film Convert for WB adjustment and added a little grain.
  25. I think all the Russian lenses work well in terms of bokeh - all smooth. The reason I'm hating the Contax Zeiss is because of the 6-blades and the resulting "hexagonal" bokeh. Very very distracting. Even worse then the Nikon bokeh, although the Nikon can be smooth depending on the depth of focus. I'm just bummed out that the Jupiter 9 needs F5.6 really to be sharp. I really like it at F2 wide open when taking stills, but I just can't get it to work for video. I'm hoping the Helios 40 will perform better, but it might not since the front element is so large. I think the footage you get out of the blackmagic cameras will be excellent. The speedbooster will definitely help, and it'll be easier to get the sweetspot of F2.8. I like F2.8 on my GH3, it really works well.
